Rock Hall of Fame announces inductees
NEW YORK — Black Sabbath, Miles Davis and the Sex Pistols are among five musical legends to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13, the organization announced yesterday.
Also to be inducted into the class of 2006: 1980s new wave band Blondie and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, who founded A&M records in 1962, will receive a lifetime achievement award in the nonperformer category.
Musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the nominations. Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.
PERSONAL THOUGHT:
Once again, The Dave Clark Five gets screwed out of their rightful spot in the hall. I really would have liked to see Chic make it too. Overall though, I can't disagree with any of the inductees this year. Especially glad to see Black Sabbath and Alpert/Moss making it in. Here is a dream list of who should be in next year:
The Dave Clark Five
Chic
Moody Blues
Kiss
Kraftwerk
Van Halen
Stylistics
It will never happen though
Actually, The Sex Pistols have no place in the hall of fame. They had ONE album, and besides that, were put together by Malcom McClauren (spelling?) and were basically a boy band plaiying punk music. They had tremendous influence, but no more so than some bands NOT in the hall.
About time Sabbath got in there...
Prefab Sprouter 11-29-05, 03:35 PM Agree with Jasper on this. They were in the public eye for a really short space of time although they were important but their life was short and so was their recording output.
Hey no Prefab Sprout. Can you believe it???? And this is meant to be by people who know music????? :rollin: :rollin: Only Kidding!!!
djdaffy1227 11-30-05, 06:41 AM Sorry, I disagree with you guys. They may have only put out one album but you cannot argue with what they meant to punk music. They are perhaps the most well known punk band of all time, the only other punk band that may be more well known is The Ramones. Their songs have been covered by the likes of Motley Crue, Megadeth and Joan Jett among others. Without the Sex Pistols we wouldn't have Siouxie and the Banshees and in turn, that means we wouldn't have The Cure either (who could very well be in the Hall of Fame themselves). Malcolm McLauren is very influential as a producer as well. Without him we wouldn't have Bow Wow Wow, in turn, without them we wouldn't have had Culture Club. Also, Malcolm was very influential in early electronic music, tell me "Buffalo gals" (sampled by Eminem) wasn't a freakin' GREAT song. This sound was not only influential on groups like New Order and Depeche Mode but on early hip-hop as well. I think they deserve their spot among the greats.
I agree ^ ;) Good post, Daffy.
I'm so glad to see Black Sab, Blondie & Lynyrd Skynyrd on that list :thumb:
DJJEFFCLARKE 12-01-05, 02:48 AM The RnR HOF is not now...(nor will be) "Credible" unless KISS is inducted. Pagan, I'm sure you'll disagree? but their impact on music and overall greatness, is what seperates them from so many other groups. They are the epitomy of an RnR HOF worthy band, and they should be there without question. They still sell out stadiums to this day, and regardless of one's personal disliking of their marketing strategy, they belong in, They've sold 50 million + records. Not that that matters, but they belong in.
VH should be(the Diamond Dave version anyway)
Journey(Steve Perry led)
Dave Clark 5
Kraftwerk

Yup....what Daffy said! :thumb:
And no Jeff, I wouldn't disagree. KISS deserves their place in the hall. What's probably stopping them from getting nominated now is people's disgust at Gene's constant whoring of the band's legacy.
Caligula 12-01-05, 12:51 PM I'm still wondering why Rush doesn't even get a mention, they've been around since the late 60's (in one form or another) and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but after Kiss I think they have the most gold /platnium albums ? or something like that

I agree with you, Jeff and most certainly with you, Pagan! KISS deserves to be in there, and maybe one day they will when Gene decides to pull his head out of his a** and stop tearing the KISS legacy to shreds! I'm a Paul girl all the way, but I am to the point now where I cannot STAND the sight of Gene Simmons for this very reason. I used to like him..just a little.
Well Daffy, I would have to respectfully disagree. The Clash is the best ever British Punk band, followed closely by the Buzzcocks. Take away Sid ODing and them being whored out in countless ways (all to the profit of Mr McClauren) and they were barely a noticable blip on the radar of music. They were a product of a VERY good PR machine, and burned out fast.
Van Halen, Kiss, Rush, dont get a mention, but a band with ONE album does?
And, having a bunch of bands pattern themselves after you doesnt mean you are GOOD, but that you made MONEY and they wanted some too. How many girl groups were around in the mid 90s in the wake of the Spice Girls? Does that mean that the Spice girls will deserve to be enshrined in fifteen years time?
