View Full Version : Your best friend from school?
ImSoooSure 8-01-01, 05:31 AM Where is your best friend from school now? Do you still talk or even see each other?
Luckily Vilji, my best friend from early high school got back in contact with me just this past year. She moved when we were about 15 and we lost contact a while later. I am so happy we have been reunited! I have one other close friend form high school that I still talk to and see a lot and another I have not seen or heard from since we graduated. I found her moms ph# though. Should I call or would it be weird?
My best friend is in Luxembourg (where we both grew up) - we have known each other for 25 years and have had our ups and down, but never lost touch. My second oldest friend I have known for 17 years - we met while on a trip to the Isle of Wight (UK).
Should you contact your old friend? Why not give it a shot? But be prepared that it might not be the same anymore. I have tried contacting old friends and it doesn't always work. I still have contact with my friend from highschool after contacting him last year (through his mum), but my old friend from college drifted away again despite us having a blast when we met up. Such is life
My best friend from high school lives not to far from me. I see him every now and then and we talk, but for some reason our lives went ways after high school.
80sSmurf 8-01-01, 12:18 PM We were a mixed crowd (4 guys - 4 gals) in school that did everything together. We spent almost every day together from '85-90, and even tho' we took different educations and moved from place to place, we managed to stay in touch. Now we get together a couple of times every month, and have a blast. They are my best and dearest friends
80sTrivia 8-01-01, 01:07 PM My best friend from high school was also my ex-girlfriend, Rhonda. We grew up together as neighbors and went through school and even attended the same university. We called off our romance five years ago, but we've remained good friends and we send each other e mail at least once a week. I even dedicated my first book to her!

Dancingdoll1986 8-01-01, 01:58 PM My best friend from High School would be Cindi. She and I grew up in the same development in Mayfield, from the age of 5 till we graduated HS. She got married, I got engaged. I went to Kent, she didn't. I broke off the engagement, she helped me party to get over it. I am now the proud GodMommy to her three kids, Cody-9, Tyler-5, and Hannah-1. I see them all at least 2x a week, and I love to spoil them. (I also FINALLY , got Cody off of N'Sync, and listening to all of my Rhino 80's discs that I copied for him!)

I met my best friend in fourth grade, when I'd just transferred into the school district. It was the end of May, and I was having a really hard time fitting in with the other kids. We hit it off, and spent the next 7 or 8 years being inseparable.
Sadly, around the time I got married, we stopped calling or writing. We don't have much in common anymore, except our shared experiences as kids. I really miss her, and I wish I could have things back the way they used to be. It was my fault that we had a falling-out... I wish I were brave enough to find her and apologize, so we can at least keep in touch, even if our friendship won't bounce back. Maybe soon.
heavenly_1970 8-01-01, 09:14 PM I met my best friend when we were both starting a new school. We were in a class together that required us to pair up for a class project. She dated my younger brother, Kevin til his death in 1989. Dana still lives in Arkansas & I had moved back to Tx. after graduation. We visit 1-2 times a year. We email, chat & talk for hours on the phone. She's like my sister & Im very lucky to have her in my life.
*Dana, if you'd ever take the time to join this site....you'd be reading this right now!*
Iluvthe80s 8-01-01, 09:57 PM I don't know where any of my friends are from school. We all just drifted apart.
I had two best friends in high school. One whom I've known since the third grad, I still keep in contact with every so often. He lives in Chicago, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again in September when I go to visit my family and friends after six years.
My other best friend from high school, I see all the time.....I married her!
ImSoooSure 8-02-01, 06:07 AM Awwww Sarg, that's so cute. You married your high school sweetheart. Good for you!
You are one lucky guy Sarg I remember when I was in high school there were a few couples that ended up getting married after graduating.
Anybody want to marry me??.....Just kidding LOL
One of my best friends from school now works for the Conan O'Brien show. We sort of lost touch through the years, but he kind of surprised me by showing up at my Dad's wake. We're planning on getting together soon.
My other best friend was my singer in my old band. His Dad owned an art school in Connecticut, and he took over running the place. He's got no time for his old friends now. His loss....
ImSoooSure 8-03-01, 05:30 AM You're right Pagan it is his loss. Reminising with old friends is one of my favorite things to do!
nolanbuc 8-03-01, 08:28 AM I just recently got back in touch with one of my best friends from high school. We bumped into one another on the internet after 10 yrs or so of not hearing from one another. After years of playing in rock & "dance-hall" bands in Texas, he's now a producer/song-writer in Nashville.
He surprised me last year by dropping in to see me. And he brought along another surprise...my ex-girlfriend from high-school (who was his girlfriend later). I was glad to see them both. My wife, however, doesn't like him much anymore.
That 80z Girl 2-24-02, 12:47 AM I've never lost touch with my best friend. We've known eachother since the third grade. She lives about a half hour away from me. We talk on the phone a few times a week and usually see eachother a few times a month. We attended the births of eachothers children.
I'm actually still in touch w/ a lot of my friends I grew up with. I've also started a moms club for the alumni of the high school I went to.
I've also gotten in touch w/ a lot of people through Classmates.com.
Caligula 2-24-02, 06:23 AM My best friends from elementary school through highschool to now are the same people. I don't know if thats cool or weird, but most of my closest friends I have known for almost 30 years. Ooop's I forgot about Topcat :)
Shortie Blonde 2-24-02, 11:54 AM My friends from Maine, I only hear occsionally from two. :( All of my friends in Maine were best friends, I love friends. Only now, is there one best bud for me, cuz one moved away  and there are too many gossips who I can't spill my guts out to.
fiya kraka 2-24-02, 12:20 PM I moved to AZ in my high school years. Being new in a new state and in High School was hard, Dina was also new to AZ so we had alot in common, we were best friends in no time. Unfortunely, we both left AZ the same time, the summer before senior year.
We kept in touch for 5 yrs. She got married and has 2 kids, so her time to write and or chat on the phone was limited. We have since lost contact with each other,:(

THANKS CAL!! hehe Your sweet for mentioning me. ;)
I don't really talk to my best friend from High School. People change. I seen who she really was and I didn't like it.
Now, I am happy with the few true friends I have and of course, my bestest friend here, Cal. :D
The only person that I still talk to from my school era is my friend Mike who I have known since 87. I talk to him in icq all the time. He helped me build part of my web site. I see him once a month, or at least every few months. We both grew up in Salem, but he still lives there and I moved to Portland last year.
I don't really keep in touch with anybody else. There is nobody I want to know from my high school. My junior and senior year were spent at a stuck up rich kid snot nosed brat high school and most of the kids were like "I have a BRAND NEW CAR and you have a 10 year old car, so you are $hit"... that attitude was VERY common there...
That is why I couldn't care less where any of them are. Don't care if they are rotting in a coffin.
I'm content knowing the few people I know.
Although it is interesting seeing where people are today. Almost 10 years after high school ended, lives change SOOO much.
Today I have a 7 (almost 8) year old girl, live in another city, have a nicer place, a MUCH better job than I've ever had, a decent truck, saving for another, and many of the other things I wanted in life I'm starting to get. I see people from high school once in a while and most of them are married, have kids, and so forth.
Doesn't seem like that much could change in 10 years, but the only contstant thing in the world is just that: change.
Shortie Blonde 2-25-02, 02:30 PM Yeah, I moved to where I am now in 8th grade. And it's hard for me to make buddies anyway cuz of who I am. That year sucked cuz I scared everyone. High School, I made a best friend the first day. :D And then she transfered. But I talked on the phone to her this morning. :)
I was just reading this old thread & getting sappy.... I still haven't gotten up the guts to find my 4th grade-12th grade best friend again. *sigh* I'm so bad about that. Either I'm all over you like glue, or I completely cut you out of my existence... there really is no in between with me.
I did have a funny experience regarding my kindergarten-4th grade best friend though... we went to a friend's house for dinner last weekend, and it turns out he was on her college dorm floor sophomore year! LOL! I told him some really fun stories of the rotten tricks we used to pull on her little sister, and he promised to take them to reunion and embarrass her :D
Other than that, the people I'm closest to now are my college friends, and two or three from high school whom I still keep in touch with.
Aaron, your high school sounds like the first one I went to. Snotrags! Nothing quite like being the poor kid in a preppy school, as I have often said on the boards. :D
Dancingdoll1986 2-26-02, 10:38 PM I have to agree with you, Mary and Aaron.
The HS I went to was all about image, and if you had a good one, you were popular, if not, then you weren't. I didn't like that, I thought that sucked. My friends were my friends, period. If the others that I was friends with didn't like my other friends, too flucking bad.....!!! One of my really good friends that I still talk with online wasn't that well off, but we were alike in every other sense. My mom LOVED her, so she was included in a lot of our "mom-daughter" days. She is a rich person on the inside, and that is all that really matters.
Mary....CALL HER ALREADY!!! You will be so glad that you did!!!:)
space-invader 2-27-02, 04:41 AM i have a best friend in canada that i've known since i was 1 years old
hung out with him for a week in canada last year...had a few beers..it was a blast!:)
my school friend in australia (since i was 13) i still talk to or see once every couple of weeks
VioletFoxx 3-03-02, 01:22 PM I have 2 best friends that have been with me more years than I can count. I'm still in close contact with both of them, though we don't live in the same city anymore. My best friend from junior high is Kim, known to you guys as Savedge1. :) She and I keep in touch practically every week. My other best friend from high school is Mandy. I've been trying to get her to join up here, but she hasn't had the time yet. I'm still working on her. ;) She's in Wyoming now, but we still chat, email, and talk on a regular basis. There are a few other friends out there I've lost touch with, but these two gals, well, we've been through just about everything together. I'm lucky I guess.
Jughead Jones 3-08-02, 02:19 PM My best friend from school has been my friend since 1988...that makes it 14 years...(god, I feel kind of old now... )
Anyway...:sneaky:
We did lose touch in 1995, when we went to different high school, and then in 1997, we REALLY lost touch when he went to a different town!!!
So imagine my surprise as a university student that we both decided to attend the same university...now we see each other at least once a week to catch up.
He's my best friend...even if he acts a bit strange now and again...:alien:

TELL ME ABOUT IT! Aaron's high school was a lot like my high school too! I mean, if you weren't dressed in Gap Clothing :goofy: , or if your haircut cost less than $50 :goofy: , you were considered an outcast.
Luckily, I rebelled against the snots by dressing preppy, but totally telling them off every chance I could get and by pretending to snub them like they would with the poor kids, as if they weren't worth my time...and it sort of worked...I am one of the few Class of '00 members who HASN'T done drugs...;)
My best friend from High school now lives in Naples, Florida, married to her second husband and lives with her three sons. We were everyday, everynight friends and I really had a good time when she was here.
I'm sort of glad I wasn't in the "IN" crowd, because the friends I made were genuine people who accepted others for what they were.
I formed an alliance with five guys and we became the best buddies in the world at School. Best of all I still keep in contact with all of them today. I don't visit them often, but I do when I get the chance. Just got a call from one of them a few days ago and he's just got himself a computer. I suggested he check out the 80sxchange. :)
It's been a long time since all six of us got together, but when we do, we have the time of our lives!
I see my best friend from school about once every two years...To this day, he is the only friend I have ever had that will tell things to me straight. If I am being an ass, he tells me that! It certainly helps keep me going...
BCRichRocker4JC 9-06-04, 03:07 PM His name is Adam and I met him in 4rth grade in 1979. I still talk to him today and named my last son after him. Great friend and my best bud.
blackdragon 9-06-04, 03:30 PM I met my best friend in second grade. I'm 36 now so you do the math on how long it's been. He and I are so close his whole family considers me another member. I mean his parents get upset if I don't show for Christmas.
He recently moved to San Antonio but we made a promise to each other. We will each do at least 2 visits per year. 2 at his place 2 at ours.
I wish everyone could have just one true life long friend like I've been blessed with.
AngelicR 9-06-04, 03:47 PM Her name is Lorie. She and I write every Christmas month. She is a few months younger than me. I met her when I was 6 years old and my family moved to Kearn's, Utah. At the time she lived three houses down from my family and we we went to the same school and church. We became best friends and went to the mall and babysat and hung out together most of the time. I haven't seen her in person, since I was 11 years old, but she is the only friend that never forgets to keep in touch every year. The funny thing is she is SO RELIGIOUS and I on the other hand am Spiritual, but unsure about my beliefs of religion. She has went on an LDS Mission and she does so much volunteer work for the church. I'm quite impressed that she has set aside being judgemental and has allowed me to stay in her life as a friend, as many religious fanatics push away anyone that they think may be a bad influence (not that I'm bad, but I'm more open to things in life. For Insance, I have lived out of wedlock with men, including my current Fiance', I have had a baby out of wedlock with my Fiance' Bern, etc......). Most of my friends are good about writing and calling for a while and go through spells where I don't know if they are even alive, because I haven't heard from them and they suddenly reappear in my life, especially exboyfriends (GO FIGURE). I use to write to all of my friends often, but now only write to those that take the time to write me and or if I think of someone and feel I should keep in touch, as my conscience tells me they may need to hear from me. My Christmas list use to be huge, but I condensed it quite a bit, as I was sending so many cards that were being returned, as the friends had moved and there was no forwarding address. It is quite sad how you can lose touch with so many, but at least I know that I tried to keep in touch, although, to no avail. :rollin:
keriberri 9-06-04, 04:31 PM OH man,I can think of so many.
Elementary-Tiffany We did EVERYTHING together from about 6th-8th. things got rough in my life and I moved away on bad terms with her.
Elemantary-Lory, I met Lory when I was in 1st and she was in 4th, we still keep in touch via e-mail. I am her daughters god mother. She was who I considered my best friend until about 4 years ago things started to change.
High School, there was a pack of us, all blonde and we were the "Blonde Squad" (I hated that name) Karin, Danielle, Amanda and I. Amanda turned into a real B***H, last I heard Karin went to Prison for drug trafficing, and last I heard from Dani, i had a 5 mo baby and she'd just found out she was pregnant and her boyfriend was a loser and she was talking about aborting, I offered to take the baby, and then she disappeared. That was 8 years ago. :( :dammit:
My best friend is Sam, he and I met in 6th grade and have been great friends for the better part of 26 years. He lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan which is only 50 minutes from Holt. He is close to my kids that they call him uncle Sam and I'm one of his son's god parents. I have been blessed to have such a great friend in him. :D :D
I've kept in contact with a lot of my old friends since elementaryschool. I've been best man at one of those friends weddings last year, and this October I'm gonna be best man at my oldest and closest friends wedding :) We met when I was 6 playing Russian Roulette with a toy gun :D
I try to do a lot to keep in touch - and since I'm the last one in the circle of the oldest friends not to have a family of my own, I try to be very flexible when to meet up and stuff. I got time - they got a wife and/or kids  You could easily loose old friends if you were bothered by that fact they don't have as much time as they used to, so I do my best not to be. And I must say - the Internet has helped a lot. A great way to stay in touch.
I've met a few people since then also that I consider very good and close friends (My goddaughters father for instance). But mainly my close friends are from the earlier years - pre 15 ;)
Slayergrrl 9-06-04, 05:34 PM I talk to my best friend almost everyday. I sang in her wedding last year. And, I just found my other best friend on MySpace.com. I've been searching for her for years don't ya know she lived in the next town over! Hahahaha.

Do they have to register there? I've been trying to find one of my other close friends for years but to no avail. Thought maybe that site would work.

Yes, you do have to resigter there... It's free. Also you can try classmates.com. A few old freinds looked me up and found me from there :D Good luck :)
Rhelawen 9-06-04, 06:04 PM I see my high school best friend at least once a week. She registered on the xchange, but I forget her username. She doesn't have her own PC, so she doesn't get online much.
I moved every year when I was a kid so I never kept in touch with any of my school friends.
I loved looking through this post since there are so many people here I miss :(
whistledog 10-28-04, 10:50 PM Most of the kids I knew in High School are all in jail now
I used to read about so many of them in the paper ... it's quite sad actually.
My best friend from school is till my best friend now!
PunkyPower 10-28-04, 11:26 PM My childhood best friend is someone I've known since we were about 7 years old. I was her maid of honor and we're still in touch, but we don't talk or hang out like we used to since she's been married and had kids. I still know most of the kids I grew up with. I recently got in touch with a couple friends who I was joined at the hip with when we were kids, so hopefully we'll see more of each other. :)
bookmistres4ever 10-28-04, 11:59 PM My best friend from school I met in girl scouts 25 years ago. She moved away about 20 years ago. We kept in touch through phone, letters, and e-mails and we'd visit one another on occasion. But she got married to a man in the service, they moved to Hawaii then to Texas and I haven't seen her in a good 15 years or so. We still send Christmas cards, and an occasional "How are you?" e-mail, but aren't really as close as we used to be. Different lives now. I'm sure if we saw each other again, it'd be a blast, and it'd melt away alot of the years and differences of past. She offered my hubby and I a place to stay should we ever make that cross-country trip we talk about making every few months or so. Maybe someday.
My second and third best friends from school (whom I grew close to after my other friend moved away), we e-mail every now and then. I run into them sometimes when I go back home to visit my family. They live clear across the state from me. They both have kids (I don't.) They both work, and I don't (outside the home). So we don't have as much in common as we used to. But we do have our past and that was fun.
I have one friend that I used to be darn near inseperable with back in high school, that I even helped through a baby shower for. I haven't seen her in many years (about 10). We REALLY grew apart. It's real sad, but I'm not gonna worry myself silly about it. No point.
stlkev70 10-29-04, 12:43 AM My best friend from school was a female. We never had a romantic interest in each other, I guess we knew both had issues. She was always there for me when I needed someone to talk to and I for her. I guess that helped to understand women better.
We lost touch after high school because she was a year behind me and I joined the army not long after high school. I really didn't give her much thought after I got out and met my ex-wife in '92.
One day in '94 I took my daughter , who was 14 months, to the store and I was going to rent a video from there and I walked up to the counter and guess who it was? My best friend from high school! We chatted for about 20 minutes. We ran into each other a few times after that. I lost touch with her again. The day I seperated from my ex I went to the bar feeling sorry for myself so I get a couple of drinks. I went back to go to the bathroom there was my best friend from school again! We talked for an hour over drinks and found out she just got married. We talked a few more times for about 3 or 4 months but then I have lost touch with her ever since. :( :( :(

Grace, Patti, Me, Kim
My best friends from school are here with me in this pic. It was my babyshower back in 97. I have known them since I was 8. ;) I will be seeing Grace and Patti this weekend.
I told my best friend from 3rd grade on to go get flucked recently. She turned into a total shit head. I don't need her fakeness.
Nikki_91 10-30-04, 11:28 AM I was a military brat, so I consider anyone I knew from those days my best friend. It's a miracle we can still keep in touch after all that time. I have one best friend, Jen, that I've known since 1st grade. (1980) I met her in Idaho.
My other best friend, Mary, I met her in when I was in 3rd grade when I lived in England. I still keep in touch with both of them and just saw them over the summer.
