I was browsing the web, and I stumbled across an official site for Animotion. Turns out they have reformed, and are touring the West Coast! Here's the link to their site:

Is the original singer, Astrid Plane, with the group, or is Richard Marx's wife, Cynthia Rhodes, singing with the band. I liked the band better with British bad girl Astrid on lead pipes...

It's Astrid and Bill, the originals! The "bio" section of the site doesn't even mention the Cynthia Rhodes album!

They had two Top Ten hits: "Obsession" (1985) and "Room To Move" (1989). The second hit was with a completely different line-up. They also had a top 30 hit in 1985 with "Let Him Go," and barely dented the charts in 1986 with the singles "I Engineer" and "I Want You." Mercury records released an awesome compilation on them in 1996 with single mixes and 12" mixes.
Man...I had the total hots for the singer who did the "Obsession" video!
Surly One,
was the "Room to move" song written by Simon Climie of Climie Fisher? Do you know?
