View Full Version : Need Ideas for 80's Theme Party! Peanut569 10-15-01, 02:54 PM I am going to have an 80's theme party for my birthday on Nov. 2nd. Was interested in some decorating ideas, door prizes ideas etc. Look forward to hearing from you guys. :D 80sTrivia 10-15-01, 11:11 PM Firstly, welcome to the 80sXchange message board, Peanut. I've posted the following in another forum regarding ideas for an 80s party, so I hope that it helps: Well, naturally you will have to have tons of great 80s music, which won't be hard to come by. You should also screen some totally awesome 80s movies: Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club would be great choices. You might want to decorate the house with some kitchsy pop culture items from the 80s: Rubik's cubes, cabbage patch dolls, etc. You can also play some games popular in the 80s, such as Trivial Pursuit, Pass the Pig, and Payday. If there's time, you might want to go to a tee shirt print shop and have some shirts made up with "Frankie Says Relax", "Choose Life" or "Feed The World" written in big black letters. Check the attic for old magazines from the 80s: Rollings Stones are great time capsules, and you can have them distributed around the house. Also, you can ask some trivia questions and give away token gifts. Might I suggest asking questions from my books, The Totally Awesome 80s Pop Music Trivia Book or The Totally Awesome 80s TV Trivia Book (which you can check out at the provided URL link). In terms of food to serve: any ol' Junk Food will work. You might want to serve some Capri Sun punch, which should bring back memories. I had an 80s party last year, and I had a picture of Nancy Reagan that we used as a dart board! Good luck on the party! Sarg 10-16-01, 12:35 AM Hi Peanut, and welcome to the 80sxchange. MDC gave some great ideas for your 80's party, and I would like to say that for door prizes or game prizes perhaps you can giveaway 80's music CD's that you can get at the lower priced sales bins in a lot of music stores. Tinajo 10-17-01, 02:27 AM Sounds great Peanut!! I'm sure you will have a great time! be sure to pass out jelly bracelets, the neon ones are the best! I saw some on ebay the other day... hold on.. let me find the link... ahh here it is.. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=jelly+bracelets You can get like 144 neon bracelets.. the bids are starting out low.. like $1.25 -$9.99 for whole packs of them! I'd jump on that if I were you! Good luck! ImSoooSure 10-18-01, 05:04 AM Oh this sounds like so much fun. Be sure to stock your restrooms with plenty of Aqua Net hair spray for the babes! ;) Peanut569 10-18-01, 01:27 PM Thank you all so much for your ideas, they are wonderful and creative!! Here are a few more I came up with: 1.Out of some cheap halloween neon tubing that you can bend into shapes I spelled out "Retro 80's" and pinned it to the wall. So with a black light it looks like a neon cafe sign. 2. I am stocking my fridge and huge party tin bucket with tons of alcoholic beverages and throwing in a case of TAB cola!! 3. Didnt want to spend alot of money and time looking for movie posters...and since I own practicallly every 80's movie there is, I am taking them to a copy place and having the covers of the movies blown up to make movie posters. 4. Of course I will have tons of neon colored baloons everywhere and might even write a few 80's trend frazes on them with a sharpie. How do those sounds so far? Maybe you can elaborate and get an idea for a step further. Again thank you all!! :) 80sTrivia 10-18-01, 05:25 PM Sounds like you are going to have the ultimate 80s blast, Peanut!!! :) Are we invited??? ;) Zel 10-23-01, 02:45 AM Peanut! Glad you made it :) Told you there would be tons of help here :) Cheers Zel |
