View Full Version : 80s revival gig clothes problem
Chrisscross 6-25-01, 10:05 PM I'm going to a sort of 80's revival gig in London 4 August. Limahl's performing and the songs he does - I'm told - are anything between Robbie Williams and 80s stuff. Any ideas what I could wear that won't cost me much? All I have to work with are a pair of pink trousers and a black flowered ankle length skirt. . I've got a pair of funky shoes that look like a cross between harem shoes and Vivienne Westwood.
Chris
Let's see. I think the shoes should be something like:

Will look for more to complete the outfit. Help out everybody.
Chris, I know these probably look like men's shoes but back in the old days I remember everyone wearing them. They look really good with almost anything; I seem to remember a particular girl that wore them with mini-skirts and black tights . She slayed me everytime.
Chrisscross 7-10-01, 08:36 PM I've managed to get an outfit on sale. It's just a black see through blouse worn over a vest with black trousers and the shoes.
Anybody think a lavender feather boa would be too over the top? I've got a beaded handbag as well. So it would be a nice touch.
Chris
Oh, you Gotta wear the boa!!
it's unique, and you'll stand out.
maybe Limahl will like it and invite you to the smaller party following..

Chrisscross 7-10-01, 09:18 PM Vilji, that was brilliant and actually exactly what I was hoping for.
Definitely the boa. No question.
Glad to see ya back on the boards DJ.
cool, dj!
(i know what that feeling's like..)
pray Real hard from now until the date of the event..then, send him some strong vibes while looking at him..(he can't refuse..
Chrisscross 7-11-01, 04:22 PM Vilji, do you really believe that works? Sending vibes? I met someone once that I'd always wanted to meet and I kept sending him vibes even though we were miles apart and it worked. Do you think it had something to do with the telepathy factor?
The truth is, I loved Limahl when I was a kid and I'm really scared of finally meeting him. I know that if i do my childhood will be over for good.
Although that's a pretty naff thing to say whn you're 29.
I'm definitely wearing the feather boa though. Keep your fingers crossed!
Chris
dj, your childhood will be coming back in your heart! let that kid inside of you out and tell Limahl how much you've missed him!
don't be shy....(hint hint)
it's a dream come true to meet your true love from being a little girl.
yes, the vibes thing definitely affects people.
what will be will be...

Chrisscross 7-11-01, 04:56 PM I neede to hear that Vilji.
Cheers, mate
Chrisscross 7-11-01, 05:02 PM Bogie, I totally snubbed you before. Didn't mean to.
The shoes aren't pointed but square in front and have this funky design of flowers. The clours are grey, greyish green and a dash of orange and lavender/purple. So with the handbag and the boa I will be just fine.
Another question - and this one's really naff - what's the proper procedure of inserting the cigarette into a cigarette holder and taking it out?
Chris
eek!
just my humble opinion..but do you need a cigarette in your hands around Limahl? I mean, he's so sensitive and different..you know?
i think it's different for a guy to smoke, but some guys are turned off by women smoking. i mean, i use to smoke. nothing wrong with smokers. but you never know about him.
you're lucky you're childhood crush is a non-grouchy shy guy..lol
thats sweet!!
good luck!!
sending you good vibes for him!
Chrisscross 7-11-01, 05:23 PM I'm more of a social smoker. I love to smoke in pubs with friends. I might not smoke in front of him. Common courtesy. I think he smokes occassioanlly but why blow smoke in a person's face.
I just want to do the whole 1920s look. Reminiscent of Marilyn being a cigarette girl at the Blitz and all that.
Chris
No sweat DJ. Bogie doesn't worry about snubs. Besides, who wouldn't rather talk to my stalkee/stalker?
Sounds like you've got the whole thing completely under control and you'll have a ball.
As to the cigarettes. I'm not sure that a woman smoking is a bad thing. But then I'm a little biased. But I think it probably does complete the 20s thing nicely.
Above all, there's only one way for a woman to properly place cigarettes in a holder -- Make somebody else do it. I don't mean because you can't, simply that you shouldn't have to.
We expect reports the day after.
(*vilji sneaks up behind Bogie and slips her arms around his waist..*)
just needed a hug for a sec..
(tag, you're it!)
That's just too sweet!
oops,,
i forgot to tiptoe away..
Chrisscross 7-14-01, 01:18 AM Damn Bogie, do you already have stalker? I was going to apply for that position.
Not a bad idea about the help with a cigarette. . Yes,... I see certain possibilities here.... . I may just have to ask a certain singer if he can help me out...
Thanks for the tip, mate.....
Sure I'll give you all the details. There's three of us going. All girls.... There should be one man at least willing to rescue a damsel in distress.
I absolutely agree with you, Bogie. A lady in the 1920s *has* to smoke. Sorry, Vilji. Don't lynch me.
Gutted because I can't be Bogie's Stalker

I would love to know what Freud would think reading all our posts without a prep course in message boards?
Methinks we would all end up committed!
I love it. You guys are the best.
Chrisscross 7-16-01, 07:28 PM Damn *cries into her soft drink*. I really needed that job, I'msoosure. It would do miracles on my CV *very evil grin*.

(almost afraid to ask..)

They just call 'em resumes (damn, never could get the french accents over vowels) over here DJ.
Still, check the "Who's Stalking Who" thread in the Members Lounge. I believe I've seen a few people recently dying to be stalked. You never know what you might find
Chrisscross 7-16-01, 08:43 PM Thanks for that. I've been killing myself trying to remember.
