Well, you're about to laugh your ass off.. Twice.. hehe I had hundreds of cassettes in like 1995. I had close to a thousand.. Well, New Years day I had a fire and lost all of them. So what did I do? I went out and bought them all again, plus more... Cassettes! I didn't have a CD player and I figured it would have costed way more to buy all new CD's of what I had. Also, I made tapes, all the time, of my favorite material.. So.. But to make a long story short... I have three CD's. Dr. Dre's the Chronic and Snoop Doggy Doggs Doggystyle - and S.O.D. latest crap. I don't listen to any of them.. Dre and Snoop? Well, they have some interesting songs and beats. I like all music.. S.O.D.? Well, I loved their first album and a couple of their M.O.D. albums.. So I bought it for old times sake...

I currently have just shy of 800 CDs. I just joined PLAY & have 15 more coming in the mail & another I won on EBAY. I'll be at 800 once those arrive, I think. I guess I'll be recounting once those all arrive.

Jeez. Do yous have CD writers so that you can have all your favorites on just a few CDs? I know I'd want them all in my car at once if I didn't. hehe Either that or a 1000 CD changer. :)

Sorry you had a fire and lost all your music Claziano. :( Actually I have a tape player in my car and I use a portable cd player to listen to my metal. In my home stereo I have a JVC 200 disc cd player.

Sal Collaziano
11-21-99, 12:58 PM
Well, these things happen.. I will probably always have a cassette player in my car as well. I'd just like to have a CD changer in the trunk with all my favorite CD's in it.. Maybe a 100 CD changer and all 100 CD's being ones I made from various collections. :) That would be really cool.....

No, I don't have a CD recorder yet, but I have my heart set on getting one this upcoming tax return. I count CD singles & CD3s (remember those ???) as 1 CD each as well. Most of the CDs are albums, naturally. I buy alot of various artist compilations mostly because they tend to have songs that are hard to find.

Sal Collaziano
11-21-99, 03:50 PM
Well, that's true about the compilations. I hear that.. But what are CD3's? I don't remember them!

My husband and I have about 600 cds in our collection but our interests diverge so much looking at our collection is a hoot. On two sides of the carosel its alman brothers, skynard, stevie ray vaughn and then theres my side the 80s mixed bag and frankly I don't have enough. Is it true you can convert mp3s to .wav files and burn them to a cd that can be played anywhere. That would be awesome. : )

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 01:19 AM
Yeah, my friend has been doing that for awhile - making his own CD's. I did it once too. I had a few Metallica CD's that a friend has lent me, and I got all my favorite songs onto two CD's with a CD recording program. It's really a great thing. I just, ahh, can't wait until I get a CD player! hehe :o

What is really depressing is what I did about 4 years ago when my husband and I moved into our house. I had a box load of tapes by artists and so many wonderful mixed tapes but I was going through everything that didn't necessarily have to go on the moving truck and we no longer had a tape player so I .......put them in the goodwill bin. I was upset about it but no more then when we bought our second car (a little used civic) and it had a TAPE PLAYER. Talk about kicking myself. For anyone still interested in finding taped music try used book stores, goodwill, and surprisingly enough try the pawn shops (a goldmine). So PLEASE really think about it before you go parting with your music.

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 02:25 AM
Ohh. That's terrible.. Uhh.. I will never part with my tapes. I'll always keep them somewhere. Well, atleast until I can record them onto CD's. It wouldn't be so bad to part with them then...

Has anyone tried recording right off net radio. There's this station jetradio that comes in so clearly with little congestion and I'm trying to figure out how to record this. We have the audiocatalyst to make cds' mp3s but we haven't figured this one out yet. Any suggestions? Also we hooked an amp up to our computer and the sound now is really clear (and loud lol)

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 02:45 AM
Hey! That's really cool! How did you hook your amp up to the computer? I have a spare amp and maybe I'll check that out too.. Otherwise, if you ever find out how to record net-radio, let me know that too! I would LOVE that!

Zel
11-22-99, 02:49 AM
Um...let me get back to you on that my 'electronics specialist' is at work lol (I just copy and play the music lol)

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 03:11 AM
Hehe! Okay! I can wait.. :) I might not do it anyways. I'm getting a new Dell with a good sound system, so.. Maybe I shouldn't push it. It's got surround sound and a good bass speaker. Maybe I shouldn't mess around with it... My last two computers have had good sound systems. Are you adding an amp to an already amplified system?

Zel
11-22-99, 03:14 AM
Not sure about the specifics. The sound was okay before but when we got DVD my husband added the amp so we could do surround sound. lol

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 04:02 AM
Do you have a subwoofer? That always makes a nice big difference. :) Surround sound too. I can't watch a television without it anymore! You get addicted!

Zel

Tell me about it. I cannot watch tv without stereo now. I've been ruined for "normal" tv lol.

I'd say I'm up to 3000 (this includes tapes, lps and cds..even if you only asked for cds..LOL). Could be more, could be less. I'd say I'm running out of room to store all of this music so for the past few months I've kept my purchasing down to a minimum..although I have yet to get the new My Dying Bride and Control Denied (Chuck S. side project). That's going to be awesome.

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 05:45 AM
Control Denied! That's being released? I'm glad they finished it. I'll buy it. I have everything from Chuck Schuldiner (Death) except for their latest release. I'm not too sure I will light the new higher pitch vocals... And besides, it's not easy to find on cassette! :\

Skyklad
11-22-99, 08:40 AM
Yah..Control Denied is out already...I believe..either that or it's coming out very soon. It's already out overseas...of course! Those overseas people are lucky because they have the best metal and get releases before this country. Chuck S is an amazing artist!!

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 02:51 PM
Yes, there is alot of good German metal and I hear there is great Australian as well.. Ahh. Yes, Chuck Schuldiner is something different and I used to write exactly like him before I heard the first album; SBG... When I heard that first song I couldn't believe it. It was exactly what I had imagined myself doing. So to me it was the best thing I had ever heard. Then, when he started coming out with his later albums (Human and those after) it was even better. He was writing with the same kind of sense that I would write with in my lyrics. I will buy his latest album when I see it on cassette and I will buy Control Denied as well.

hi all i'm new and i just thought i'd tell you about my collection. i have alot of 90's stuff on my shelves but i always have this 80's cd in my cd player.i burned it for myself out of mp3's that i've gathered off the internet. i converted them to AIFF (cd audio) i'm looking for a couple more songs so i can make a second cd. my bro had most of the 80's cds that i used to listen to since he was born in 1980 and i was born in '84. if anyone needs help on setting up your audio, converting mp3s to cd audio, or cd burning mail me (mjjcdf@worldnet.att.net)

Hi, David84. Welcome to the site! Glad to have ya... I'm sure your CD burning and MP3 converting skills will be very appreciated here. :) I have always been interested in learning how to get that working but have lacked the time to learn how. I know I'll be needing your brain in short time. :) By the way. What's on your 80's CD? I'd like to know...

Zel
11-24-99, 01:30 PM
David! Thanks for the offer, I'll definitely be calling upon you for help. How many songs can you fit on the cd in this format??

David84
11-24-99, 04:47 PM

The following songs are on the cd that i burned... 01-pet shop boys-opportunities 02-clash-rock the casbah 03-duran duran-come undone (not sure if this group is 80's) 04-simple minds-don't you forget me 05-tears for fears-everybody wants to rule the world 06-tears for fears-head over heels 07-pet shop boys-west end girls 08-tears for fears-shout 09-duran duran-ordinary world 10-thompsin twins-hold me now 11-a ha-take on me 12-madness-our house 13-eurythmics-sweet dreams 14-smiths-how soon is now? 15-soft cell-tainted love i'm not sure if all the songs are titles the right way since most of them are mp3s.

Yeah Sal, that is Nelson. I was really into them in middle school. Most girly glammers were in my school. Anyhow, I remember my CDs in alphabetic order because I try to alphabetize them once every month or so...I am sick like that. I have over 600 CDs and many bands I didn't name above, but I just scanned my CDs in my mind while I was at work. That is sick, isn't it?

Sal Collaziano
11-25-99, 05:28 AM
Okay, first.. Nelson was very popular by me to.. Second, no it's not sick that you can catagorize your CD's in your mind! And third! I wanna buy that CD, David. hehe :)

Zel
11-25-99, 06:30 AM
oh they are most definitly 80s lol : ) But it is nice to see them around in the 90s again!

Yeah, Duran Duran. Aren't they on tour right now?

mkbat
11-26-99, 01:45 PM
CD3 s were quite common back in like '88. They were only 3 inches across & primarily were the equivalent of CD singles. Usually they had 2-4 songs on them. Very much to my surprise, the new CD players still accommodate them. If you look at the space for CDs in the player, it's the "well" that is a little deeper than the rest of the CD holder.

Sal Collaziano
11-26-99, 04:26 PM
Oh, AOL uses CD3's then.. I received one in the mail not too long ago. I didn't know that's what they were... I've always noticed that spot in the middle and wondered what it was for. A few months ago I found out - and now I found out those are CD3's. heh

Duran Duran is one of the greatest 80s bands ever (to me)...and they are on tour right now. The songs you have, David, are on the Duran Duran self titled album (some call it the Wedding album). It is a 90s album, probably from 92' or later. Anyhow, it is a great album! Great cd you have put together for yourself. I also have a CD burner, but not a lot of 80s music on cds. Most is on tapes, that are warping more and more each day. Anyhow, if anyone has any great 80s mp3s, please let me know :) Thanks

Sal Collaziano
11-30-99, 01:10 AM
There are definatly ways of getting those 80's cassettes on CD. I know you can convert them to WAV files and then record them... I have to figure out how - when I can, and do, I will let you know... I have alot I'd like to record as well...

David84
12-17-99, 07:10 PM
it's quite simple to convert songs on tape to aiff. i have a macintosh and i do this often. if you have a microphone jack on your comp and a tapeplayer just get a cable that has jacks on both ends of the cable and hook one to earphones on your tape player and the other to microphone input. you might want to set the volumes before you start anything just to make sure your audio doesn't sound like crap. just get any program that let's you make files out of direct sound in and save them in aiff. you then can search on the net for an application that changes aiff to mpeg for easy and smaller storage. well i hope that i helped you -david

Sal Collaziano

YuP! That helped alot, David! I'm gonna go check into this right now. :) Where've ya been, by the way?

Sal Collaziano
12-18-99, 03:07 AM
You wouldn't happen to have the name of a program. Would you? I did a quick search and I didn't even come close. I'd love to have all my cassettes on CD though!

I had to chuckle on this question!! I'm so stuck in the 80's that I still bought cassettes , i have around 800 cassettes, now that I have a computer with a CD player I finally broke down and bought some CDs, as of right now I only have about 30 CDs, and 90% of them are greatest hits albums. Ayla

Wow. You have a lot of music. Jeez!! I have about 5 CD's. That's it.. I still don't even have a CD player in my car! Just the one on my PC. hehe Soon.. I just don't know what to do with all my cassettes. I know how I am - I'm going to rebuy them ALL on CD. While I don't have nearly 800, I do have a bunch...

I'm sitting at about 1000 CD's. Most are Best Of collections. The main reason I have so many is that I also run an all 80's DJ service. So I cart most of them out with me. Until recently I held off on buying Thriller and some Madonna but when you get people requesting the stuff you can't say "Who?" and sound knowledgable. I picked up about 5 today. Found a great pawn shop that sells them for about $3 each or 4 for $10. Well worth it when some wind up costing $15 or more. I'm still in the process of changing over 200 cassettes to CD's but many of them never came out on disc so I'll keep searching. Boy, I don't have much at all! hehe I need these collections. I think if I ever become a millionaire I will need to buy a warehouse to store all my music. Do you get a lot of requests to DJ 80's type parties, Marten?

Zel

I still haunt the pawn shops too!! About 3 months ago I found Opus!!! I played it over and over in the car (our only cassette player) and even my 4 year old knows the words (that is the coolest lol - we don't do Barney we do OPUS lol)

I finally figured out how to convert mp3 files to wav files, and I learned how to burn CDs too! I have made some great Glam and Dance compilations in the past two days! I am so excited. I am having trouble finding some songs though. Anyone own Ballad of Dwight Frye by Alice Cooper (on MP3 or CD)? I only have it on tape. What about Every Mother's Nightmare: Love Can Make You Blind? I will post more wants in the want section :)

Oh, Mirdonamy.. If you'd asked me I would have given you a program that does it! Well, you're gonna have alot of fun burning CD's! :) You may need to sell us a few! :)

Is this the wav files that can be played on any cdplayer Mirdonamy??? Let me know if so because its nice hearing the mp3s on the computer but it would be nice to show up at a party sneak in a disk and make everyone really happy : ) Opus Sal - you've had to have heard of 'Life is Live'? life is live la la lala la LIFE is LIve la la lala la etc. awesome song : ) way better than we will rock you

2-03-00, 10:39 AM
Hmm. I hope if I heard it I would recognize it.. I just don't remember though... MP3's need to be converted to WAV files before they can be recorded onto CD's. I believe this is not legal, though, since these programs are no longer available...

Someone will probably have one on an FTP site or at warez ( I hate the 50 popups there)
