Sal Collaziano 12-10-99, 08:24 AM You can actually find all those songs, and download them in MP3 format, on http://www.napster.com - Check their first. You need to download a small program and everything is pretty self-explanatory... Check it out.. If we don't see you back here, we'll know you've become addicted... Hope to see ya again soon! hehe :o
I'll check Napster out and see what they have... thanks for the info.
Sal Collaziano 12-10-99, 09:10 AM Uhoh! A Napster newbie! Been nice knowin' ya! :( (You will become addicted!)
Ok Sal, I've been to Napster and I do see the possibilities... but damn the download time is gonna be awhile.... I've only got a 56K....
Sal Collaziano 12-12-99, 09:34 AM Well, if you get a cable modem... hehe :) I see Zel there sometimes.. Atleast I know she's okay now.. :) (Zel was a regular here until I napster!)
Unfortunately, cable modems are still not yet available in my area.... so I'm SOL...
Sal Collaziano 12-13-99, 09:39 AM Wow! That must be Shit Outta Luck! Cool. hehe Or, well, not so cool.. I guess it'll be there soon.. Where are ya, exactly? (well, not EXACTLY. You know what I mean. hah)
Sal, I'm in a suburb of the Phoenix/Mesa/Tempe area of Arizona.... and at this point, it may still be 6-12 months before they're offered... and even then, I'm gonna have to explain the extra costs to the wife... telling her I can download things faster means nothing to her... she doesn't understand the difference between 14K and 56K, let alone DSL or cable modems... <sigh>
Sal Collaziano 12-14-99, 06:54 AM Bring her over here and we'll explain it to her. :)
Mirdonamy 12-14-99, 07:02 AM I have noticed that a lot of people leave their computers on to upload/download during the night. So I just pick a ton of songs and let it go from there! I do have some of those songs Vince...but I will MP3 them later on next week, if you don't mind :)
Sal Collaziano 12-14-99, 07:08 AM Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I did that once.. I usually have ALOT of people downloading from me at once.. If you see me there (Collaziano) check out my list. It's getting pretty impressive! I hang out in the 80's room but am not there all that often.. Feel free to download all you might want if you see me.. One thing! I'm not exactly sure how safe it is to stay connected. There must be some security issues allowing people from all over the world to access your hard drive.. Be careful...
Mirdonamy 12-16-99, 10:58 AM Yeah, I was thinking about that too. I don't know. It is hard to download something and not be worried. So, I just try not to think about it. I have back ups of everything that I think is important incase I need to reformat my hard drive. Anyhow, I have met some interesting people in the Alternative room. The 80s chat room, people never seem to talk! Hee hee. I wish there was a way to IM people in there or search for people.
Mirdonamy 12-16-99, 11:00 AM Oh by the way, I am searching for episodes of MTV's The Idiot Box with Alex Winter. If anyone knows how to find them, or has copies on VHS tape...let me know, now! :) hee hee. I will trade lots of classic 80s videos for this! :)
Sal Collaziano 12-16-99, 02:24 PM Eventually, there will probably be a napster for videos.. Otherwise, yes, I hear ya about the IM thing. I see Zel there sometimes but can never get in touch with her.. I wonder why she hasn't been around in so long...
Lol I had no idea you were on Napster or I would have said hi : ) I'm there as Zels80s but I kept getting booted off - major bummer : ) we should invite napster to incorporate our room on one of those servers so we can keep posting and naping lol
Sal Collaziano 12-29-99, 03:31 AM Yes, I've seen "Zels80's" on there. I knew it was you. hehe! Ahh, that's a good idea you have - about sought of getting our community in there.. How could we go about that? How should we present it to them? That would bring us large amounts of attention since alot of people there would come here. This way, we could all really trade what we have.. This is a good idea - let's not forget about it... Where there's a will there's a way... Like I've said before - I'm involved with a few businesses right now and if any one of them take off it will reflect here. My goal is to make this place a real place for people to enjoy. I will put all of our ideas together and eventually get this community rolling. It will cost money and I will never charge a dime. Mirdonamy has been trying to put something together for us. If you look in the front page you will see a link. Together, we can get something going for free. I definatly think we can work something out with Napster if we come up with the right plan...
Well business is not my strong point but I should put my social research skills to the use they have always been meant for - tracking 80s trends lol : ) give a few weeks to see what I can come up with.
Sal Collaziano 12-30-99, 05:21 AM Sounds outstanding! Anyone who has an idea of a good approach should let it be known! :)
Jasperrt 2-02-00, 12:33 PM Allright, maybe I am a retard or something, but can SOMEBODY please explain to me, now that i have went to NAPSTER.com, how do I now get some music?????? I am lost Ron (computer novice) email me at realdealmbp@yahoo.com to let me know. Thanks guys!
Hey Jasperrt, This is more of Sal's expertise...just wanted to say hi.
Sal Collaziano 2-03-00, 12:14 PM Okay, this is the message I sent to Jasperrt - just in case he looks here first... Hi, Jaspert.. Okay, here it goes.. I'm no REAL Napster expert either but here it goes.. First, you must download their program.. It's on their front page. Wherever it says to download it, do it! It's just one program. From there, install the program. When you want to use napster.com you just double click on the napster icon on your desktop (after you install it). From there, it will ask you to create a new account, etc.. Then, you login using that information.. Try this out. If you have any further problems, let us know..
after that when you log on to Napster you can find music two ways - by doing a search of the singer and title just double click when you have a good connection (watch the ping length the closer the better) Also you can click on the chat and it will load up a whole bunch of rooms and assumingly you'll want 80s - click on that and then a whole bunch of users are going to come up - they will have a color dot by them only try red if they are unknown and disconnect from them right away if they are really lagging - the best one's to download from are green dots - cable T1, T3 or greater. Double click on a person who has a lot of mp3s and then it will go onto another part of your screen (on one of tabs) click on their name just once and it will formulate their list then just click on the song and download : ) It sounds like lots of info but it is so easy and fast : ) (wait I'm saying that now cause I have cable but it is still way better than doing webpage by webpage searches for mp3s) good luck Ron : )
I've been a Napster user for a while now and have somewhere around 300 1980's tunes. I also have a cable line, so my speed's great....most of the time....
I only have one major complaint - when people see my 80's file, they go NUTS trying to download as many as possible, which makes it very difficult for me to get anything I want, as it gets really slow then. I hope the people from here are smart enough to not do that...most MP3's go a lot faster downloading one, two or three at time, but not 12 and 15 at a time.
I know I probably shouldn't be complaining in here, but I don't know where else to.
I forgot to say...if anyone would like to see a list of what I have in MP3's (its a long list) leave a message here and I'll see if I can sent it. I'd be happy to zip up a package and send them out.
