View Full Version : New LIVESAY lyric....need your opinions!
Hey gang...we finished up a new song, and I was bestowed the lyric writing chore. (songs are split between me & my singer) I want to bounce this off you guys first. What do you think? AND...what do you think it's about? I won't post the title, because that will give it away completely. Let's see how good you are!
This song absolutely rips! We're going to use it as our new show opener. It features a guitar/keyboard trade-off during the lead break that finishes with both of them doing an incredible double solo. Believe me, as soon as I get a good recording of it I'll get it to Sal to post.
You also have to remember these are lyrics, not poetry. There are pre-choruses and choruses that make the rhyme scheme sway a little. Anyway....here it is.....
________________
The morning is calm
No cause for alarm
All hands unaware of the oncoming storm
Then out of the east
Like wolves to a feast
They're caught unprepared in the jaws of the beast
Fire rains down from the sky
No time to even cry out....
Outmanned and outgunned
They're soon overrun
Betrayed by the land of the Rising Sun
The fleet can't be saved
Their blood stains the waves
Hundreds of men trapped in watery graves
Cast down into the sea
A day of Infamy....
Now the Giant's awakend
Out of its slumber
All the lives that were taken
Paid back with thunder
A battle-scarred brow
Refuses to bow
This dark act of cowardice can't be allowed
So into the war
With a deafening roar
The Giant arises to settle the score
Left for dead in their wake
Soon they'll see their mistake.....
Now the Giant's awakened
Out of its slumber
All the lives that were taken
Paid back with thunder.

'Their blood stains the waves
Hundreds of men trapped in watery graves'
I think I remember hearing something about on the way back from delivering the bomb, a fleet got hit or something...

Glad you guys like it. The song's a real barnburner. Fast and furious!
Definitely GREAT!! Sounds to me like Pearl Harbor, too, because that's when the U.S. got involved in WWII (the Land of The Rising Sun and the Giant to settle the score gave me that impression).

Thanx Blazie! Glad you like them. I posted a bunch of lyrics some time ago, I'd love to hear your opinion on those if they're still floating around. If not I could send them to ya. Always good to hear constructive criticism!
Not Man, the check is in the mail.....NOT!!!! Hee hee! One quick question Not, did you get your name from the little character Anthrax used? Did I ever tell you that Frank Bello & Charlie Benante grew up in my neighborhood? My old drummer was their best friend as kids, and he's got pix of them in their early teens dressed as KISS on Halloween...pretty funny.

Yeah that is where I got it. I think I remember you saying something about that awhile ago. So you used to hang out with them as kids? Of course you didn't know at the time they were gonna be one of the best thrash bands around. Any chance of seeing those pics?
A quick question for you Pagan.....What is your view on John Bush in Anthrax now?
I never cared for him don't get me wrong I loved him in Armored Saint but in Anthrax? No! His voice just didn't fit their music. It was like wearing a pair of sandpaper boxers after you were used to wearing silk boxers. Plus they seemed to lose their sense of humor in the process. I still listen to them, but the magic for me is gone.

I wasn't too thrilled that they got rid of Joey either. To me, he's the voice of Anthrax. His solo stuff is really good though. You should pick up his CD's if you haven't already.
I never hung out with them as kids, I only met them after they hit it big, around 1987. Hung backstage with them when they opened for Ozzy, and when they headlined with the Cro-Mags opening. I really dug Frank, he was the most down to earth out of all of them.
Pagan, those lyrics are awesome! What gave you the idea to write about the attack? Was it the previews for that new movie thats coming out about the attack on Pearl Harbor? If looks like it's going to be a big epic, that I can't wait to see, and I would love to hear your lyrics to music.

They were in this forum Blazie. You may have to set the preferences to go back a few months. If you can't find them let me know, I'll email them to you personally. Don't want to post them again and bore the people that already read them! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif
A review Amy?....Hmmmm....that would be cool to read a review from someone other than a writer from a magazine or a website!
Not Man....you have no idea. I've gotten to hang out with some really cool people in my day. It's even better when we get to open up for these people and I get to actually have conversations with them as peers. Sebastian Bach, Billy Sheehan, RATT, Warrant, Lynch Mob and coming up Firehouse. It's great to be able to rub elbows with these people that five years ago I only read about.
Sarg, I was inspired by the fact that I'm really into WWII. If I can educate some younger people into looking into that period of history by writing about it, then it makes it even better to me. We owe everything to the men who fought that war. We'd all be speaking fluent German or Japanese right now if not for them. That's why whenever I see a veteren from that war I shake his hand and thank him, and if I meet them in a coffee shop, diner, fast food place, whatever...his meal's on me. anyway...sorry to ramble...it's just a topic I have alot of emotion about.
Peace,
Pagan

That is the one negative EVERY review says Amy, so you're in agreement with all the professional writers! It definitely isn't long enough, but unfortunately we couldn't help that. We still don't have management or a label behind us, so everything came out of pocket. Since we don't settle for 2nd best, and used what we felt was the best studio and producer in the area, the bill for just those 7 songs came to over $13,000. That was without packaging, artwork, and duplication. The artwork is definitely amazing. The guy who does it also did all my tattoos. I won't go to anyone else, and in fact I should be going back to him later this year to get my other leg done.
Thanx Cult..."Tora, Tora, Tora" was an awesome flik. I haven't seen that one in awhile, I have to go see if I can rent it now....

Amy Livin 5-02-01, 10:29 PM Oh, quebecois is a wonderful language. For example, Blue's first sentence that I tought him was: Chalisse de tabarnac d'oestie de putain de saint teton beurre de marde!!!! Amy Livin 5-03-01, 04:12 PM Aww...don't worry about it Pagan. It's just a bunch of church words and words that barely mean anything to any non-quebecois people. Just imagine a really long swear word and you got what it is.

Amy Livin 5-05-01, 02:01 AM Yup, I'm a realy potty mouth when I speak Quebecois. But it's part of the language http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif
I can't believe I'm talking about it as if it were a language of it's own. It's just french with a heavy accent. I guess it's like comparing British to American. I hate it. I'd rather speak in English cause I hate this stupid Quebecois accent. I hate Quebec!!!! Hehehe, sorry, I get carried away http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif
