View Full Version : Concerts that I've been to...

Okay. There aren't many.. My first was an Ozzy concert that my Uncle took me too. Anthrax opened for them but I missed most of their show. I saw the very end. It was the one from the Among the Living album so I probably would have really liked it. My Uncle was a big Ozzy fan so it didn't bother him so much, but, oh well. Hehe. Lets, see.. Then I saw Metallica with my friends. Queensryche had opened for them. Queensryche was really good. It was their Operation Mindcrime album and Metallica did their ...And Justice for All stuff. The Metallica show was the best of the three concerts I've been to. By far! Well, my last concert was a huge disappointment. It was Metallica during their self-entitled black album. It really blew. I don't even remember who opened for them. Metallica played 1 minute versions of the songs that real fans liked and full versions of songs that kids who had no idea who Metallica were really loved... But that's my short concert history. I had the opportunity to see King Diamond in 1989 for his "Them" tour which was one of his best - but I didn't end up going for some reason. It was on Halloween.

Damn! I'm definatly jealous.. You must have alot of nice memories.. hehe That's great. All those concerts. And all cool bands too.. And they can never be seen again. Maybe I should buy a big screen TV, an awesome surround sound system, and ahh, rent a video of one. hehe :(

Yeah it was pretty cool seeing all those bands but you're right you can never relive those moments again. Some of those bands are still touring.....maybe not as good as they were in their heyday. :(

Sal Collaziano
11-21-99, 01:10 PM
Yeah, I guess it would be alittle different since we and they are all older now. But it would be nice anyways. I hope they come into my area soon. They're always atleast one state away. I suppose they just aren't big enough anymore for Madisson Square Garden or whatever. :(

Where I lived during the 80s there wasn't a big venue for concerts and Toronto was deemed to far (by my square parents lol) to go to see that Rock music. So I lucked out in 86 when a whole bunch of us went out to expo in Vancouver and saw Rush!!! It was the most amazing show. The lazers, the ten minute long drum solo, the 'atmosphere'. It made up for missing Triumph, Pat Benatar, Joan Jets, Madonna and all the other stuff. At smaller venues I've seen Honeymoon Suite, Kim Mitchell (he's still rocking with that cops hat on), Haywire, Helix, and I had tickets to see Foreigner but I was sick : ( On a lighter note, Loverboy is touring again and although i haven't seen them yet, Mike Reno now looks like....Drew Carey!!!! That is way too funny. : ) I forgot to mention Gowan, Alana Myles, The Jeff Healey Band, Skydiggers, Brighton Rock. I saw these guys at a rock festival up here in the 90s but hey they were 80s bands : )

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 03:21 AM
Hey, ya know? Pat Benatar.. My Uncle dated her. He's a nutty kinda guy. He introduced me to Rock/Metal by letting me hear Blizzed of Oz for the first time. He's a lawyer and drives to court on a motorcycle and meets clients at his office, screeching into the parking lot in his Cadillac, blasting WBAB (A huge rock station on Long Island). I wonder what the client thinks. hehe

Zel
11-22-99, 03:34 AM
That is so cool. Your uncle is probably respected for being himself (sorry but I aslo have this cousin vinny image coming to mind lol) Pat Benatar ay. The closest I get to 80s noteriety is that Michael J Fox went to my nursery school for a brief period but I can't say I remember this : ) But.... I was born in the Hometown of Bobby Orr --64,000 question (where is that lol)

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 04:06 AM
Hmm. I don't know Bobby Ore. Then again, I didn't get into music until kinda late in my life.. Ahh, my Uncle, hehe. Nah, he was a hippie in the 60's. :) And like, ahh, a Black Sabbath guy in the 70's. :)

Zel
11-22-99, 04:27 AM
LOL thats my fault I went completely off topic there, went from Pat Benatar to your uncle knowing her (well I'm assuming lol), to knowing a famous person to....Bobby Orr a hockey player for the Boston Bruins (completely off topic) Sorry lol. Now that would be funny if he sang though.

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 05:47 AM
Hehe. Oh, man.. I guess that goes to show I don't know Hockey either. Baseball, yeah.. Otherwise, yeah.. My Uncle did date Pat Benatar. hehe

Skyklad I'm sorry but I just had a little chuckle at your expense. I'm reading down your list and there is one band that just doesn't fit with the impressive (yes I'm jealous) list. Big Country! I loved Big Country it just kinda popped out there. lol

Skyklad
11-22-99, 06:50 AM
LOL...I know..they don't quite fit but I was naming some of my most memorable concerts and they definitely HAD to get in there!! LOL...It's funny rereading it..I know what you mean about it sticking out...

What state do you live in Skyklad? You've seen just about everyone!

Skyklad
11-22-99, 08:34 AM
I reside in Massachusetts....And there is actually only one more band in the world that I must see before my "End Of Days" arrives: SKYCLAD!!! THE BEST METAL BAND EVER!!! I'll have to travel overseas to see them though..they've no interest to come to this rap/alternarock laden country. I shall see this wish come true when I travel to Germany for the famous WACKEN festival..and hope they are playing..either that or take a trip over there to see them exclusively!

Sal Collaziano
11-22-99, 08:40 AM
I totally understand why they don't want to come here! But I have never heard of that band. :( I will definatly have to look for an album, or order one, if you think they're so great!

Hey Sal, The first concert I ever saw was Ozzy too! I can't believe my parents let me go considering one, it was Ozzy, and two, I had school the next day (OOOH!). We had to drive 2 hours to that show. I've seen a wide variety of shows over the years. In the 80's I saw Whitesnake, Heart, Def Leppard, REM, INXS, Huey Lewis, ELP, Joe Satriani, and others. In the 90's, I've seen Live, Ozzy at the last 2 Ozzfests, Tom Petty, Matthew Sweet, Blues Traveler, G 'N' R, Skid Row, Faith No More, Culture Club, and The Cure. I was also lucky enough to go to the Tibetan Freedom Concert at RFK Stadium in DC last year. I'm trying to get my friends to hit some of the reunion tours by some of the 80's metal bands, but no takers so far. Sebastian Bach, Firehouse, and Dokken play in Northern VA fairly often - would love to go see them. The band I've seen the most is a band called Everything (seen 'em at least 60 times). They are out of VA, and have been around since '90. They are the one's that sing "Hooch", which was all over radio a year ago. Unfortunately none of their other (and better) songs got any radio airplay. Everything is a great funky band. Sorry for my soapbox on Everything, considering this is an 80's board!!! BR

Sal Collaziano
11-24-99, 08:24 AM
That's a nice listing of concerts there! Hmm.. Firehouse - that's another great band.. What was their big hit ballad? I forgot! Oh no! I just checked! Firehouse sings "Love of a Lifetime" and "When I Look Into Your Eyes". I said Slaughter somewhere else...

My deal was the Thrash and speed metal and the hard core punk at the time. of any thing new i like deftones,Slipknot, dream Theater and Sick Of It All.

OD Rush was my first concert ever!!!! I saw them at the Pacific Stadium in Vancouver in 1986. I was so blown away by the lights and lazers and the way they had the drums set up so he could spin around for that amazing 10 minute drum solo : ) Somebody please tell me the story with Garth Brooks and this Chris Gaines thing? Is Garth going through a mid-life crisis. I just don't get it.

Mirdonamy
12-02-99, 09:39 AM
I passed up Rush to see Tool. I am not sure if I regret it or not being that Tool was my second favorite concert ever, after Pink Floyd as #1. Tool was cheaper and two hours away. Rush was three times as much and 4 1/2 hours away...on a school night with a final the next morning. So I opted for Tool. I really want to see Rush though. I love them!

Bonster
12-09-99, 01:25 PM
No one's been here in a while........ Mirdonamy, Rush is a must see concert, hopefully they will tour again. Saw them in '96 on their Test For Echo tour and I have to say it's the best concert I've seen. I was just blown away at the incredible music of a 3 man band. Concerts I saw in the 80's: Rick Springfield The Pointer Sisters The Jets A-ha INXS Robert Palmer Jody Watley Howard Jones Corey Hart Kenny G had tickets to Tears For Fears but took a road trip to L.A. instead, actually I still have my ticket. Wang Chung

Sal Collaziano
12-10-99, 03:02 AM
Jody Watley.. I'm actually looking for a couple of her songs... She sang one of my favorites back in the 80's - "Real Love".. I only know of one song by Wang Chung - "Everybody Have Fun Tonight". Were there any other big hits?

Okay my list is a bit strange so here it goes... Survivor, Cheap Trick, REO Speedwagon w/The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Duran Duran (twice), A Flock Of Seagulls (twice), Scorpions, Nelson, Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison, Great White, um...Richard Marx w/Henry Lee Summer, Starship w/The Outfield and a bunch more that I can't seem to remember. I have a list somewhere but I can't seem to remember where I put it. I think I need to go to bed now. What an odd list don't ya think? Whoosh!

Sal Collaziano
1-25-00, 02:52 AM
No, that looks like a pretty cool list to me. It's good to like all kinds of music. That's me for sure. I didn't go to many concerts at all. Only like 3 or 4. I wish I had your list!

Bonster
1-25-00, 08:03 AM
Great list Simons Flame. I wish I could have seen those shows in the 80's. However, I just read that REO Speedwagon will be touring with Styx this spring/summer. I'll be checking that show out!

Sal Collaziano
1-25-00, 08:57 AM
Hey, Bonster! If you can get some tour dates, that would be great. I will post the message in the Current Events section... :)

Sal, tour dates haven't been announced yet, but as soon as I find out, I'll let you know. There are a few dates listed for REO only at www.speedwagon.com. So, are you knee deep in snow yet???

Sal Collaziano
1-25-00, 02:51 PM
Yeah, we've had some big snowy snow today. hehe How is it over by you? Veerryy slippery out on the road! I was driving a little while ago and without even excelerating any harder, my back started slipping! Yikes! Thanks for the website. I am going to check on those tour dates right now... :)

Sal Collaziano
1-25-00, 07:52 PM
Wow, that's awesome! hehe I've just never heard of Marillion. What are they like? Hey, wait. Damn. You saw Metallica in 1985. Was that the Master Of Puppets tour? Or Ride the Lightning?

Raine
1-26-00, 12:53 PM
Actually it was Donnington, Monsters of Rock, 1985. KICKED ASS! Marillion were great. English band that had a huge hit in 1985 in England with Kayleigh. If you ever see their CD, Misplaced Childhood, GET IT! It is great. They have since gotten a new singer that I don't like near as much as Fish, but they still are around, with a new album, and they still rock!

Sal Collaziano
1-26-00, 04:43 PM
What is the whole Monster of Rock thing? I've always heard alot about it but I don't know what it is..

1-26-00, 04:58 PM
It's like when a few bands tour together. we went this past summer the bands there were Night Ranger, Slaughter, Quiet Riot and Ted Nugent. it was great we got to meet Slaughter and Quiet Riot. Ted Nugent kicked @$$! No one wanted the concert to stop. The other bands were great to but Ted made the ground shake!!!!

Sal Collaziano
1-27-00, 04:20 AM
Cool. Do they have one of these every year? I guess I'll never have one around here. Nobody likes rock except me in New York. hehe

1-27-00, 05:19 AM
I think the Rock Never Stops Tour has been around for awhile. Unfortunatly my husband kept me from going because he wasn't and still isn't into going to concerts, but as of 1996 my daughter started liking my music and with two of us nagging him we always win!!!

Sal Collaziano

Talk about concert envy, Blaziegrl! I missed out on the whole "rock" concert scene in the 80's. I'm making up for it now though. I wanted to see the Rock Never Stops Tour really bad but the closest they came to the Pacific NW was either California or Montana and I couldn't make it to either one. For some reason we always seem to get overlooked on these types of tours. I don't know why, cause we have a great outdoor amphitheatre. The Gorge has been rated the best outdoor amphitheatre in the country 5 years in a row, or so they say. And we love rock around here. Even the Scorps mentioned listening to a great rock station while they were here with Motley Crue. Oh man, talk about great memories of the Scorps/Crue show. I caught a Scorps drumstick, Matthias Jabs handed me a guitar pic and my boyfriend caught a blue party cup that has SIXX written on it filled with water that Nikki Sixx threw out to the crowd. Sal, has the snow let up where you're at or are you still slip-slidin' around? It's absolutely gorgeous here today, perfect blue sky with snow on the ground. A welcome change from yesterdays thick, gloomy fog.

Sal Collaziano
1-27-00, 11:10 AM
Yes, it's still icy over here. The side streets have been untouched by snow-plows and the main road are only clear where tired have been passing through. I hear there is another storm coming our way maybe around Sunday. It could be a Noreaster...

Blaziegirl
1-27-00, 02:18 PM
Sounds like a great place for concerts Bonster, I feel realy bad for you. there going to tour again this year and hopefully they'll visit keep your fingers crossed. Sal my husband is well kinda Square, I'ts hard to describe him. it's really strange though because he's younger then I am :O)
