View Full Version : It's only the middle of July, yet here comes storm number FIVE already...
This year is turning out to be more frightening than last year. You hope no one gets hit, but hopefully this one will visit our southern neighbors and leave the US mainland alone.
Say hello to Emily:

In the interest of our southern USA members....I'd rather say GOODBYE to Emily!
But alas you are correct in your statement that this year is turning out more frightening than last year Pagan!
I hope this storm doesn't hit the US at all. But if it does, I want our southern Members to be safe!
Just to clarify...by "southern neighbors" I meant MEXICO!
I hope it doesn't hit ANYWHERE, but if we have to have it hit, leave the southern US alone. They're still reeling from last year. :6ohboy:
PaperGirl 7-13-05, 01:32 PM Id rather it not hit Mexico....Im right on the edge of Texas...so Im a bit more worried about this stuff than I was last year. The edge of Texas is about 20 minutes from my house...so....Id rather they all just go away.
80sTrivia 7-13-05, 01:39 PM This is why I'm spending hurricane season away from South Carolina this year!!! :yikes:
If it hits Mexico it will kill and hurt more people... I just hope that it just dissapear somehow! :(
Somebody please invent a hurricane-disappearing-machine :dammit: I really feel with you guys over there!!! The worst that ever hit us were a puppy compared to the ones you get :(

Ditto!
Looks like it'll be another tough year in the south. Just hope it won't be a deadly season.
Slayergrrl 7-13-05, 07:34 PM Damn!! Ditto on that hurricane machine!
nolanbuc 7-13-05, 08:39 PM Just to clarify...by "southern neighbors" I meant MEXICO!
I was gonna say!
I have a feeling Emily will turn north, probably after it runs over the Yucatan. If it does head toward us, I hope it will have weakened considerably while over Mexico, it looks like it will be a solid cat. 3 when it makes landfall on the Yucatan.
And there's also two or three tropical waves forming to the east, at least one of which will probably be "Franklin", so hold on!
stlkev70 7-13-05, 10:05 PM I just can't believe how early these hurricanes are coming this year! I went through Hurricane Hugo back in '89 and know how devastating they can be. I just hope this will be it for a long while and they stay away from the U.S.

I agree, I hope the southern U.S. States don't get hit with Emily. Florida surely doesn't need anymore hurricanes, they haven't even finished rebuilding after last year !!!! The northeast hasn't been hit since 1991, so I'm more than sure we're due for one. I just hope the rest of the season stays quiet after this. Wishful thinking, I know.....
PaperGirl 7-15-05, 01:14 PM I need to get to Lowes in the morning.
I have nothing to board my house up. And Im right in the projected path. Wonderful.
:dammit:

:bigeek: Holy crap! Be careful, PaperGirl!
My aunt's right in the projected path, too. This is getting scary...
Get all boarded up and you'll be okay, Papergirl.
One thing I learned last year from Kimmy is that if you take precautions it's all about - to quote an REO Speedwagon song - Ridin' The Storm Out....
Besides...some possible good news for you! Be prepared, but cross your fingers! This is from hurricanetrack.com:
After seeing our second category four hurricane in a week (and it's only July) there is finally some good news to report on Emily. The NHC shows the hurricane somewhat weaker now and furthermore says that upper level conditons will not be as favorable as they were for Dennis. This means that Emily will not have the same opportunity to strengthen as Dennis did and in fact could weaken even more. This is great news for people in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands as well as the Yucatan. The forecast track still keeps Emily just south of Jamaica and the Caymans but crosses the northeast tip of the Yucatan. Models have been trending more and more northward over time and it is possible that Emily will simply pass just offshore of the Yucatan and miss the landmass completely- at least with a direct hit. However, the NHC notes that the models have had a northward bias for Emily- meaning that they have placed Emily farther north than where it actually ended up- in some cases the models have been 250 miles off! So, it is not time to celebrate by any means, but at least we are, for the time being, not looking at another category four hurricane. It is still too soon to know whether or not Emily will directly impact Texas. It certainly is possible- but we have to keep watching to see if indeed there is a continued shift to the north in the track forecast.
If you go the tracking page, it's forecasting Emily to only be Cat 1 when she hits the mainland. That's still a good storm, but nowhere near as destrcutive as a Cat 3 or 4. :thumb:
Well, I don't think Emily will be much of a threat to me.
PaperGirl 7-16-05, 11:26 AM Thanks Pagan! Ive been keeping a close eye on it all weekend so far...that is good news. Not as good as it just going away...but I'll take it.
Good luck Paper Girl ! I know the feeling and it is scary as hades !! Got my finger crossed for ya !
Louisiana has been lucky so far ! (knocking on wood) :6ohboy:
KimJoy69 7-18-05, 11:00 AM Traci, check in with us, when you can. I'll be thinkin' about you. :ghug:

Looks like you'll be okay Papergirl. This latest one has Texas only getting the edges. Lotsa rain and wind, but you won't catch the brunt. :thumb:

PaperGirl 7-18-05, 08:26 PM Im extremely glad that its path seems to be moving...but as we all know...it could surprise us all. One weather guy in Corpus keeps telling us that it could reform and reenergize when it hits the gulf tonight.
All the news media here has people wary...and with good reason.
Thanks guys! :ghug:
Prefab Sprouter 7-20-05, 06:06 AM Traci,
I hope and pray that Emily does die down and that it wont go near you guys. It never ceases to amaze me how well all you guys cope with these adverse weather conditions. Like Harket, what we get thrown at us you'd laugh at!
anyway be safe! :thumb:
