I've gotten several requests from some Xchangers to make a list of every animal I've eaten and put it on the Xchange so people can see how even my diet is weird. So, for those of you who were wondering why I'm such a wild and crazy guy, it's because of the gamey flavor in my hamburger...>:]

INSECTS
Ants- kinda crunchy
Mealworms- chewy
Caterpillars- a very unique flavor…not really crunchy and not really chewy. The worst part is that these things grow up into a really ugly moth. I’d never want to eat their adult form!
Snails- Chewy and had the consistency of many types of seafood I’ve tried.

AMPHIBIANS AND REPITLES
Frog- tastes like watery chicken
Turtle- it was in a soup, but had the consistency of beef.
Alligator- Tastes like chicken
Crocodile- see alligator.

BIRDS
Chicken- this flavor’s obvious.
Turkey- Again, this flavor’s obvious.
Duck- Darker and greasier than chicken
Quail- I had no clue what I was eating when I first tried this. It was tender but stringy
Pheasant- Wild, gamey flavor
Ostrich- Tastes like tenderized beef
Emu- Simlar to ostrich.
Pigeon- Like a cross between chicken and duck.

SEAFOOD
FISH
Polluck
Fluke
Perch
Pike
Catfish
Linefish
Grassfish
Carp
Tuna
Salmon
Whiting
Swordfish
Shark
Yellowtail
Halibut
Cod
Trout
Hake
Scrod
Hoki
SHELLFISH
Lobster- I’m glad someone else paid for this…you basically pay for the butter flavor!
Crab- has a sweet taste
Crawfish- like a cross between lobster and crab.
Shrimp- this flavor’s obvious
Clams- very chewy.
Oysters- Very distinct flavor. Best if eaten smoked.
Mussels- Extremely chewy, but this is because I prefer to eat them raw.
Scallops- Very sweet flavor, best of eaten stuffed, and disgusting if eaten raw…
Abelone- not quite sure how to describe the taste of this…it was very different.
MISC.
Octopus- very chewy and almost flavorless. Best if eaten raw.
Squid- See octopus. Best of eaten fried.
Cuttlefish- See octopus.
Jellyfish- This has no flavor whatsoever. I think our host ordered it just to see if I’d try it…Which I did.:)
Eel- tastes similar to fish.
Sea urchin- the insides of this thing don’t have much of a taste to them
Stingray- not as chewy as octopus and squid, and goes well with chili sauce.

MAMMALS
Cow- what? Do I really have to tell you how this tastes?
Pig- tastes like shi…I mean, like I really have to describe this one!
Sheep- like beef, only greasier. Goes well with cucumber dip or mint jelly.>:]
Goat- same as sheep, and is probably sold as such.
Squirrel- tastes like chicken
Rabbit- same as squirrel
Cat- I ate this by mistake. For those sick people who are curious, it tastes like chicken.
Camel- Tough to chew but is like a cross between beef and lamb. Has a funny smell to it as well.
Deer- tastes like lean, gamey beef.
Elk- Has a sweeter flavor than deer.
Moose- tough and gamey with a consistency like beef.
Reindeer- like deer, slightly more tender.
Bear- sweet but gamey meat. Not really like anything else I’ve ever tried before.
Warthog- gamey pork, basically. It’s much healthier, though.:)
Wild boar- same as warthog, with a slight nutty flavor.
Kangaroo- tastes similar to deer.
Pronghorn- tastes like deer
Oryx- Same as pronghorn.
Impala- same as oryx, but less gamey.
Kudu- gamey and slightly sweet red meat.
Eland- similar to kudu.
Wildebeest- similar to oryx.
Yak- tastes like beef with a slight gamey flavor
Buffalo- same as yak.
Zebra- tastes like beef with an intense gamey flavor. I’ve managed to fool some people into thinking the meat is white and black striped…>:]
Beaver- tastes like a tender beef roast.

the last time i shared my opinion on beaver, i got slapped across the face.

i'm not as exotic as you, but i once did have LIVE squid... straight from the tank, to the table, fresh off the cleaver, w/ wasabe. what a fight! you gotta chew the life out of it before swallowing, or it can stick/suction within your esophagus and ultimately suffocate you. sake just made the fight taste better.

I could have tried dog when I was in China, but I didn't feel like shelling out $10 to try it. What's worse is that I nearly tried human! One day, when I was running late for work, I stopped to eat at this new steamed bun stand I saw. Usually I got one with meat, one with vegetables, and one with red bean paste. I was waiting in line to get my food and managed to get every one but the one with meat. I headed off to work and after I came home, I sat down to eat dinner and read a headline that nearly caused me to barf up what I was eating: it said, "Restaurant Closed For Serving Human Meat". I decided to get a Chinese newspaper to confirm that is what it said in case there was a translation error. Sure enough, I read a sentence that had the characters for restaurant, closed, and the characters for person and meat were also together. I had to FORCE myself to finish my meal that night!

I do a lot of traveling. I'd say 67% of the stuff on here was served to me overseas.

I accidently ate cat at a street vendor in Hangzhou, China. They normally have these street vendors that come out at night and sell all sorts of things on skewers. Well, one night me and a couple of buddies were walking to the local bar to have a few beers, and since we hadn't eaten dinner, we stopped at this street vendor that was close by. I got some lamb cubes, some quail eggs, and also some mushrooms, and had them covered in red pepper. I then saw these smaller cubes of meat that looked pretty appetizing, so I asked for some of it as well. Well, after eating two skewers, I told the vendor that this was quite tasty. He said it was cat meat I was eating. I just about puked up everything I had just eaten!:barf: but I must say it didn't taste too bad. My nephews tease me relentlessly about this:we'll be grilling and one of them will say, "Set the table, Ryan! Here's a nice juicy one!":mwaha:

I was there for about 5 months in 2001.

My brother actually had a chance to try possum, but he isn't as brave as me, so he left the guys house he was gonna eat it at before it was dinnertime. :mwaha: I'm actually hoping to try rattlesnake next.

5 months is pretty good! :thumb:

Now...what's so good about rattlesnake meat? Is it supposed to be tender or what? Or is it because you are just curious to eat more reptiles? :mwaha:

I want to try rattlesnake because every time I tell people about all the things I've eaten, they ask if I've eaten rattlesnake. It must be good if so many people ask me about it!

My Brother has eaten rattlesnake. He says "Tastes good" but never said what it tastes like.

At least we know if there is ever a "Traditional" food shortage, MisterE will have it made!
