Which 80s songs bring a tear or two to your eyes??? For me, it's "The Living Years" by Mike & the Mechanics. Also, "Do They Know Its Christmas?" by Band Aid, "Luka" by Suzanne Vega, and "When the Children Cry" by White Lion". Anyone else with enough courage to admit which songs make them weepy???

"Open Arms" by Journey can do that to me. Steve Perry has such a powerful voice and he puts so much emotion into it.

"Drive" by The Cars always got me a little upset. It's a beautiful song, but the words have always seemed to haunt me.

Well, now that I've posted them as the most underrated band I'll also post their song as a big ol' tear jerker. "Forever Young" from Alphaville (not Rod Stewart) totally different song.

too many to mention really but here's a short list:

Fade to Grey by Visage although that song also made me want to dance, laugh and cry at the same time. It was just too magical.

Neverending Story by Limahl
Do They Know it's Christmas
When the Chrildren Cry
Forever Young by Alphaville in some ways (because its full impact only came in the 90s. Sorry)
Major Tom by a german bloke named Peter Schilling
Hymn by Ultravox

What can I say? I was a weepy child. Well actually, I was just emotional.

A shoulder to cry on by Tommy Page. I made a tape for my best friend with many friendship songs on it. When he died his brother gave me the tape and the whole thing is hard to listen too. It is still very hard to deal with after 10 years.

Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper
In The Living Years - Mike & The Mechanics
Daddy's Home - Cliff Richard (give you one guess why I get teary listening to this!?)

Omigod, Sheibub, 'Time after time' reminds me of Jon-Erik hexum. They were doing this segment on how his girlfiend died in Cover Up and he was just sitting there remembering her while the song was playing. At least I hope it's the one.

Look What You've Done To Me - Boz Scaggs (1980), All Through The Night - Cyndi Lauper (1984). Alone Again - Dokken (1984), Genesis - In Too Deep (1987), You & I - Eddie Rabbit & Crystal Gayle (1983), All Out Of Love - Air Supply (1980). Wow I could go on. I guess the song doesn't have to be a ballad. Just a special song that brings back a forgotten memory or a special time in your life.

Actually, Jon-Eric Hexum was the one that died on the set of Cover Up when he jokingly put a stunt gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Jon's girlfriend at the time was singer/actress E.G. Daily, who played Dot, Pee-Wee's girlfriend in "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" and sang the 80s dance anthem "Mind Over Matter"...

I forgot to add Phil Collins "Another Day in Paradise" to my list of tear jerkers. Phil really brought the plight of homeless people to the media forefront with that song.

You guys have already named a lot of good tear jerkers, so I'll add two by Pat Benatar,"Somebody's Baby" and her song about child abuse, "Hell Is For Children". The song title came from a newspaper article headline.

A friend of mine works for the movie studios as a free lance artist, and even though "Hell Is For Children" never had a music video for the song, he made one of his own with some family members and friends playing the roles. The video was very well done, and was so powerful that it tore you up inside.

Djnage,
"Fade to grey" gets to me too. I hear it a lot on the new wave station. And "major Tom" by P. Schilling is one of my favorites.
The song that made me cry, even growing up is "Woman" by John Lennon.
And their name's on the tip of my tongue, but the song went like this: "Since then, I never looked back, it's almost like living a dream. And oh, I love you.." He sounds so honest and to the point. It just gets to me.

Oh, and Pat Benatar's song, "hell is for children" gets to me Way too much. I can't handle it without getting angry for them.

Another 80s song that always got to me was Paul Young's weeper "Love of the Common People"..."We're living in the love of the common people, smiles from the heart of a family man, Mama's gonna buy you a dream to cling to, Papa's gonna love you just as much as he can, and he can..." Actually, the meaning of the song is upbeat, but the song still has an affect on me...

For me, I get no more emotional than when I listen to "Song to the Siren" by This Mortal Coil. Elizabeth Fraser's vocals are heart-wrenching and the subject matter is so lonely.

Besides, who ever looked lovier than this:

i'm about to get the Pink Opaque (once again) real cheap from Poland, of all places. Since it's out of print now, I'd rather not pay places like Amazon.com $30.

"Goodbye" by Night Ranger always put a lump in my throat. "Love Will Lead You Back" by Taylor Dayne choked me up also, but for the emotional connection I had to the song (looong story). Also "Forever" by Kenny Loggins brought many a tear to my eye in it's day. As for pure melancholy, Howard Jones' "Elegy" always put me in a blue funk.

I'd have to say Faster Pussycat's 'House of Pain' cos it's about divorce thru the eyes of a kid...my parents got divorced when I was young and that song makes me think of it. It's really sad to me...

I would love to add, but I got club 977 playing, (AHHHHH!!! Simple Minds "Dont you forget about me." just came on, I love it)and its hard to think of songs while one is playing. One I thought of is "We two", I cant remember who sings it. Its a group, and its on the soundtrack to Grease 2. Another one I have in my car, so I'll go out later and see what it is.

Could it be "We'll be Together?" That's on the soundtrack...and all songs on Grease 2 were sung by the cast members...Another one from that movie is "Love will turn Back the Hands of Time..." *Yes, I will admit, I like this movie. Seems I'm the only one that I know that does!*

You are right DJdaffy. It is Little River band, but I listened to it right after I watched Grease 2, and I just loved the movie so much, I guess I put them together. I thought it so sad when Micelle
Pfieffer thought Maxwell C's character died. I cried.
The other song I thought of was called "Thinking of You", cant remember the name of the singer. She was a female. OMG, that song was so sad, I couldnt even sing along without my voice breaking.

Kayenne, you just reminded me of a Phil Collins song that made me emotional and still does:
"Groovy kind of love". it's so sweet and to the point.

oh, and Vanessa Williams',
"saved the best for last" is on my list, also.

Even though they are not technically from the 80s, two songs by artists big in the 80s make me a bit emotional:
"Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen (I don't know how you could listen to the words of this song without chocking up...)
and "Hazard (The River)" by Richard Marx. (What in the heck happened to that missing girl in the song, anyway?)

There are a couple songs from Phil Collins' No Jacket Required album that have jerked a few tears out of me:

"Long Long Way To Go"
"We Said Hello Goodbye"

Not many people may be familiar with either of those songs since neither of them charted as singles, but for those of you who have No Jacket Requred, take a listen to both those songs.

Oh, and a couple more songs I thought of that have jerked tears out of me:

'80s...

"True Colors" - Cyndi Lauper
"Drive" - The Cars
"Foolish Beat" - Debbie Gibson

Non-'80s...

"All By Myself" - Celine Dion

The two songs that I tear up at whenever I hear them are "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper and "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin. Everytime I hear either one the floodgates open right up. I also cry when I hear Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting For You" because I knew this girl at school whose boyfriend sang it for her and a couple of days later he got in a car wreck and died. Very tragic story.

Desert Moon - Dennis deYoung
Woman - John Lennon
True Colours - Cyndi Lauper
Victims - Culture Club
Goodnight Saigon - Billy Joel
