Tinajo, How can you include FOREVER? granted, it is a great song, but I believe it should be discounted because of rule 138.4 in The Cool Persons Handbook, which reads:

No Song cowritten or written entirely by Michael Bolton shall be referred to as being A) great B) Cool or c) the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Other than that, I got no problems with your list.

Of course, I like different ballads than just those from ROCK bands. Some of my favorites are:

Seperate Lives-Phil Collins and some female named Marylin somethingoranother

Faithfully- JOURNEY (no I am NOT kissing up to Sal with this one!)

To morningmyst...

Cry on, my fine woman! These are beautiful songs. Just let the wellsprings of emotion flow. I guess you can say that-

"These songs are the stuff that life is made of!"

So cry, dance with your loved ones, dream...When you listen to these songs, it's like you're keeping the spirits of love and life alive!

Here are a few more songs that I forgot in my listing binges:

-"These Dreams"-Heart (Love, *Love*, LOVE this song!)
-"There'll Be Sad Songs To Make You Cry"-Billy Ocean (It's practically the anthem for these types of songs. Listen to the lyrics and I think you'll know what I'm talking 'bout, Willis!http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gifhttp://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif)-In All Seriousness, this is truly a lovely ballad. Emotion and sentiment run strong in this one!
-"The Search Is Over"-Survivor
-"Don't Know What You've Got 'Til It's Gone"-Cinderella (Did we mention this?)
-"Never Tear Us Apart"-INXS (Did we or I mention this?)

So let the emotions flow with the songs as your guide!

Sincerely,

John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

While at teh grocery store last night, I heard a song, that nobody here has listed, and I thought I would throw it up, and see what people think. For me, it has a ton, and I mean TON of memories, mostly bad, but you cant have BAD memories without some GOOD times preceding them. The song was "AT THIS MOMENT" By Billy Vera and the Beaters.

I also liked "WONDERFULL TONIGHT" by Eric Clapton.

-"Always"-Atlantic Starr
-"Captain Of Her Heart"-Double
-"The Sweetest Taboo" and "Smooth Operator"-Sade
-"You Are", "Penny Lover" and "Hello"-Lionel Richie
-"Moonlighting"-Al Jarreau (Okay, it's a TV theme, but it's still romantic to me.)
-"Foolish Beat" and "Lost In Your Eyes"-Debbie Gibson
-"Next To You" and "Rush Rush"-Paula Abdul
-"We Belong" and "Love Is A Battlefield"-Pat Benatar (I probably already mentioned this)
-"Ordinary World"-Duran Duran

While watching VH1 Behind teh Music this weekend, I forgot just how cool all the Journey Ballads were. Open Arms, Faithfully, The Girl Cant Help it, Loving touching squeezin', and all those bad ass songs. Damn Steve Perry has a great voice.
Somebody Mentioned Jon Waite singing MISSING YOU. I didnt know that Jonathan Cain had tried to get him to sing Open Arms while they were both in the Babies. Imagine how big he could have been if he would have just sang that one song? But then again, he had WHEN I SEE YOU SMILE with Bad English.

My favorite Chicago song was LOOK AWAY. It sorta went along with the reason that I HATE Cheap Trick's THE FLAME (all is forgiven Dawn).

What about these, I am not sure they were put in before or not:

IN YOUR EYES by Peter Gabriel
ONE MORE NIGHT by Phil Collins
DRIFT AWAY By Dobie Grey (a 70s song, but cool)
BALLAD OF JAYNE by LA Guns

Those were a few I had thought about this weekend.

Methinks that "Reapthewildwind" doth quote the band A Perfect Circle "3 Libras" which while an excellant tune from an exceptional cd- Mer De Noms. A cd that came out fairly recently and not from the retro years. Oh well, thought I'd point that out.

A couple obscure yet fully cool ballads:
TNT- I'd Be Lost Without Your Love (Knights of the New Thunder)
TNT- Tonight I'm Fallin (Intuition)
*Tony Harnell- one of the best vocalists ever.
Danger Danger- I Still Think About You (Screw It)

And YES on that UB40 Can't Help Fallin In Love!! I played it on my Flashback Lunch today.(:

Hi all !

Apologies for the tardiness but I felt that I simply HAD to add my own personal favourite/favorite to this superb list !

Desert Moon - Dennis DeYoung

I searched for many years for this tune on CD and finally got lucky on eBay with a great '84 compilation called 'Class Reunion'

Before I go, may I also add 'La Isla Bonita' by Madonna to this list ?! Oh...another one just popped into my head, US and other non-Europeans (maybe even non-Irish) may not be familiar with so take my word for it !

Clannad with Bono - In A Lifetime

Eveyone is posting so many of the great ballads... you're not leaving me any!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif

Well, I don't think I saw "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton on anyone's list...

And how about Hurricane's "Over the Edge" it's more of a rockin' ballad... but a ballad nonetheless!

Oh and another one that makes me bawl like a baby...
"Calm Before the Storm" by Keel... I tried to find it on Napster just now... no way!! They sure are filtering our songs!!!

Has anyone mentioned "Carrie" by Europe?
Just another one....

My god people, nobody mentioned ENDLESS LOVE by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie yet? Yeah, they played it on the radio 'till we were all sick to death of it, but fess up, come on, everybody's got some memories to go along with that one http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif

Another favorite is Hot Rod Hearts by Robbie Dupree. Pretty much everything else I can think of has been mentioned already. Goodybe to Romance by Ozzy was the first song I ever learned to play on guitar (well, the guitar part was by Randy Rhoads). Ball and Chain by Aldo Nova - it's good to know I'm not the only person in the world ever to hear of that song! And then there was Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett. Was she still with the Blackhearts on that album?

Tinajo, I actually have "Calm befor the storm" on CD. The entire cd is average 80s hair metal, (my favorite music BTW) but that is definately the best song on it.
