Since I already have a PS2 & PC, I really don't need another gaming-system

Strategic games like Sudden Strike or C&C donīt go well on a console...Iīll stick to my PC unless thereīs a revival for the good old VCS 2600... :D

Sorry, anyone in control here can delete my blank posting above...

I voted to buy a game for the PC. I'm not really into those game systems. There are two many different kinds and new ones are always coming out. I'd rather just have one PC with great games rather than have one system and wonder what the others are like...

Did somebody say Command & Conquer?

Why, is there something wrong with it? :D

I own C&C 1 Pack, C&C 2 Pack and C&C 4 (I only know the German titles, so Iīve better listed them only as numbers before the game freaks are going down on me... ;) ), only missing is C&C 3.
I also own the predecessors, Dune and Dune 2000.

I donīt have much time for gaming, but I prefer strategic games to any other category.

Nothin' but Nintendo! That is my motto. I strayed from them once (Sega Genesis) and missed out on a lot of great games. Nope! I am waiting patiently for the Gamecube. :)

In all fairness though, PC games should not be in the mix with console games. They're a different breed and not a console alive can keep up with a well built PC.

GB Advance - i'm not home enough to play video games as much as I want to, so if I were to spend money on any new system, it would definitely be GBA. Plus, I can play this in my bed, at work, on my couch, in my kitchen, on the porch, etc, etc. :D

Maybe not when it comes to graphics, but it depends on what sort of gameplay that suits you. I like cool graphics, but gameplay means more to me. My fav. game right now is on Gameboy Advance: Kuru Kuru - a puzzle where you navigate a stick through a maze. Could have been a Atari 2600 game based on graphics, but it's still very addictive.

The nature of console games - turn on, play, turn off - is different from most (not all) PC games. That's why PC games got a spot in the poll. :)

Yup! It's all relative. :) All gamers have their pesonal tastes and they're all correct. Just depends upon your needs.

I don't want to invest in a game machine when I already have cartloads of games for my Mac. (Diablo I & II, Warcraft I & II, Starcraft, Baldur's Gate, Myst, Riven, SW Episode I Racer, The Sims, Civilization, Caesar III, Railroad Tycoon, the list goes on) I've flirted with the idea of buying a PS2 so I can play the new Dragonriders of Pern game, but maybe I'll just tease a PC owning friend to buy it, or play it on weekends at the office, LOL.

I voted with PS2... My daughter also wants X Box

Go with a PS2 Blazie...unless you're ready to shell out a small fortune for a system that's simply mimicing PC gaming as it already exists right now.

Hey, Roem. Heard anymore about when we can expect the Gamecube to show its beautiful self? I feel like Ralphie from "A Christmas Story" waiting for this thing. :)

It launches Nov. 5, 2001 with 5 games here in the States :D :D

I suggest you get on whatever waiting lists/raincheck deals are available when they become available to get one...it's gonna be tough to get! Especially so close to Xmas...

Atari 2600 man! he he! seriously, I have always been pro Nintendo, but I have to go with X-box - Microsoft really can't go wrong, and the fact that it hooks up to your PC to do all sorts of freaky things really appeals to me

HOLY SH**! Didn't see that post, another good reason she's not getting it :D

I think i'll just stick with my trusty old Sega Genesis and my computer. Too many of these game players come out and it is hard to keep up.

I've already bought the PS2...and it rocks! Madden 2002 is unreal, Gran Turismo - A Spec rules, and there's a game called Red Faction that's taking up alot of my free time! The best part about it is that it's backwards compatable, the only system to ever do this. I can play all my PS1 games on it also, as well as it being a DVD and CD player.

You're right about the X Box Roem. Bill Gates has enough of my money anyway!

As far as console gaming never coming close to PC gaming, it depends upon the game. I've seen beta versions of "Half-Life" for the PS2, and believe it or not it looks better than the PC.

The PC does have the advantage in being able to create new levels for games, import art for games, etc. Plus, I don't think you'll ever see a console with a 40 gig harddrive! On the flipside, my consoles have never frozen up on me!

Let's face it....they both rule! All the systems listed in the poll are or are going to be incredible. It's an awesome time to be a gamer, ain't it?

Heh! heh! you know what's funny Pagan, I remember thinking back in the 80's that it was a pretty awesome time for gamers back then, when I was armed with my Commodore 64 and Amiga! just imagine if I had a time machine and jumped to 2001, I would've just poo'ed my pants and the games today!

You make some good points, Pagan. As for Half-Life. That is kind of late in coming in my opinion. They should have ported that over a long time ago. It's a great game (playing Counter-Strike) at the moment, and would be a cash cow for whoever gets it to market first. Is that the PS2 they are porting it to? I'd like to see that.

Have a question for you also. You mentioned seeing PS2's for $199. What store was that? I can't find one in Phoenix for less than $299.

Actually, some games on the PS1 did froze up, but that could also have been a problem which occured after the Euro version of the console was converted to play US and Japanese games.

Iīm not minding about the costs for the consoles, but shelling out about 40-70$ for a single game which will become boring some day, especially in the knowledge that the same games will be sold in parts of the world for way less...thatīs my general problem with them.

I don't know about the "selling for less" bit, Wavemaster. I tend to pay an average of $30 to $50 a game here in Phoenix (for my computer). Haven't bought a console game since "Majora's Mask" for the N64. I usually wait a while after they are released to buy. The prices usually drop after they been on the market for a while.

I think Europe is becoming the cheapest place for console games. The average price for a new game in the US is $50 and in Japan it's $65. Judging from UK prices the average price in Europe is $40-42.

Well. I rented a PS2 this weekend to check it out. Have to say that I think I will stick with my computer until the Gamecube arrives. The game (Red Faction) was cool enough and the graphics really nice, but the controller just didn't sync with me at all.
