Just wanted to post something funny here. I remember dating a guy that was totally into Punk Rock music. He lent me his Circle Jerks tape......my dad asked who it was and I told him.(unfortunately, he was drinking a beer at the time and spit it all out) I had NO IDEA what it meant, until my boyfriend explained later....kinda grossed me out. Anyone else know that?

I had a friend that listened to them. Wasn't my kind of music at all though.

I listened to them a little bit in probably '82 or '83. It didn't occur to me until about 15 years later what "Circle Jerk" actually refers to! Ah, my mind ain't always the fastest thing.

They did have one cool tune, it went "Beverly Hills, Century City, everything's so nice and pretty. And all the people, they look the same, don't they know they're so damned lame?" It was about the only ten seconds of melody on that whole record http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif

Another weird name for a punk band was the Dead Kennedy's. They were popular with the punkers at our school back then.

My favorite (besides the Sex Pistols) was probably the True Sounds of Liberty. They actually weren't all that bad. Their lyrics (when they weren't trying to gross everybody out) were kind of real. "Life is so easy, when you're told what to do. How to act and how to be...you. But the joke wears off, and you're still laughing. Caught in your own trap, and you're all happy!"

The Plasmatics with the late Wendy O'Williams were a pretty good band. That Sex Junkie song has a sort of interlude that is just about as heavy metal as you can possibly get - extremely melodic and crushingly heavy. Sort of reminded me of some of the stuff on the Alice Cooper Live Show album from back in the '70s.

The Circle Jerks were pretty cool. I loved that song Century City. Coud De Ta(sp?) was another good song. Another great punk band was Black Flag this was Henry Rollin's old band. I saw both of them live back in '84 or '85 and those were some crazy shows.

The Henry Rollin's Band was just here in Cincinnati and I didn't get to see them. It was disappointing because I love Black Flag.

Thanks for the welcome Sal I appreciate it. This is a great website. Yeah I haven't seen Henry Rollins since Black Flag but I bet it is a great show. I love his spoken word too.

Speaking of bands with twisted names, did anyone here ever listen to, or heard of, a punk band called 'Pussy Galore'? And, no, I didn't make it up. Cool tunes, titles of some of the songs were just as bad. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif

I have a Circle Jerks C.D. called Golden Shower of Hits. It's a parady of Stars on 45. They do Carpenters, Paul Anka, Captain and Tennille songs in it. It also includes the original version of "When the shit hits the fan" that later appeared on the Repo man soundtrack

Anybody remember The Meatmen?
