Yes! I hereby declare this board the realm of I, Reagans Renegade! Well, im sorry i guess im overwhelmed with being the first. Hey is Duran Duran considered New Romantic? As for New Wave i like all the girl bands. Some of my favorite New Romantic songs (if they classify) are "Lady in Red", "Must of been Love" (Roxette?), and a couple i cant name the name of or ever hum a tune, my memory is bad and they dont play anything awesome anymore /ubb/smilies/frown.gif. /ubb/smilies/smile.gif thank god for sites such as: http://community.webtv.net/SMG777/SIT/
YyyaaAAY! Please please sign the guestbook- it is as lonely as I!
I hope someone posts in here, unless you want me to hog all the fun. I suggest this for the first topic (besides me being crowned king): Duran Duran. The band, the music, and the man(s).

Duran Duran rule! I'm 30, in a hard rock/metal band, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I think that they are (well, to be honest, not so much anymore) a very (dare I say brilliant) band. My only regret is that in 8th grade, I didn't go to the big show at NYC's MAdison Square Garden show on the 7 and the Ragged Tiger tour. Instead, I just saw them on the Pop Trash tour at the PNC Arts Center in NJ, and was very dissapointed. But, after a week, I forgave them, and so I live in their musical past (anything post-Arena, excepting the Wedding Album, that is). So sue me if I think Rio is the best song of the 80's! Hell, John Taylor is such a good bassist, that it took me 15 years before I figured out how to play Rio, AND get to play it in my old cover band.

Oh yeah, and Powerstation and Arcadia kicked ass too!

Sittin' here on my Night Boat,

Thats pretty cool- im not sure if i even heard DD on the radio when i was little! It seemed the *ladies* of superstardom owned the whole scene in Philly.
I know of a coverband that plays rio songs among others from Australia! They are called 80s enough and i cant remember their URL but i have it listed on my site (page 5 or 7- plug plug)! Hey im a DD fan, and a fan of all sorts of New Wave (and would be a fan of the european continuance of this field if american record stores would risk it!) and 80s sounds, but i like Pantera too! So there are different times to listen to different things, and unfortunatly with the way society has desintigrated in the last 15 years a band like Pantera is much more appropriate then Duran Duran. Just take a gander at all the depressing people you meet everyday- scowls, snickering, Tommy Hilfinger and worse! I'd move to Australia, Germany or France if i had the dough and i think i speak for a good number of people.

I love the new wave stuff. It's what I end up listening to a lot on the 80's net stations. I like Duran's obscure stuff, and Roxy Music, Lori Anderson. Lene Lovich..Echo and the Bunnyman. I think the Cure is in the New Wave category, though it's also gothic to some. a fine line between goth, new wave, and just good 80's stuff..

I'm trying out my signature..They played the Violent Femmes on a new wave station. hmm..I had their tape. "I take one, one, one cause you left me, and two, two, two for my family, and three, three, three for my heartache and four, four, four for my headache, and five,..."
we had so much fun singing that stuff

I like DuranDuran and the Lady In Red song lol. Thats basically all i know http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00blush.gif. Maybe i dont know what New Romantic means, or i do but dont enough of the songs and bands. I must say that Violent Femmes bothers me, but thats only my opinion http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//replyicon8.gif

Yeah, that's what I meant about the Femmes. I didn't think they were new wave exactly. So I get surprised choosing a 'new wave' station instead of just '80's' with the choices they play. But some of the Femmes' songs were cool, anyway..hehe
Psychedelic Furs--now I consider that new wave. They had some good songs out.

Defining new wave is a little weird...one common trend with it is that it was pretty heavily synthesized (thus the alternate name of syth-pop).

A few other groups I think are thrown into this category are: Flock of Seagulls, New Order, Eurythmics, Human League, Devo, Talking Heads, Thompson Twins, Men Without Hats, etc.

I'd say Psychedelic Furs definitely fits into this group as well Soluna http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif
