Don't know if this subject is appropriate, or if it's been done (Sorry if it has, I am new.) HOWEVER, I am noticing that a lot of songs and groups on the radio NOW have an 80's feel to them. Just MORE proof that the 80's are coming!!

For examples...
"Dance With Me" Debalah Morgan
"Discovery Channel" Bloodhound Gang
"Blue" Eiffel 65

I think it goes without saying that we can already eliminate, Brittany, Christina, and all boy and girl bands!! We KNOW that is an 80's revival!! LOL

Any takers on this topic?? If not, then just ignore me!!

You're absolutely right. The Bloodhound Gang song sounds like it's from the eighties. What about Ms. Jackson by Outkast? It sounds heavily inspired by Prince songs from the eighties.

wasn't the bloodhound gang song sampled from a new order song? i think that would explain the whole 80's sound. well, assuming i'm right, which i'm not sure if i am. does anybody know?

The band called Neve also has an 80's style to their music. They opened this past year for Kiss and Hanson. Has anybody seen them?
I saw them in concert this past summer when they opened for Hanson.
I took my daughter to see them, and I was impressed with both bands, although I almost cut my throat when Hanson played Mmmbop!

A lot of the Techno kind of music has an 80s feel to it too. One song called "Ayla" really does. Maybe techno is just techno no matter what you do to it...

I heard a song that I thought was from the 80s. It was from a group called Bis and they are each about 20 years old. The 80s are coming back.

Okay...another one from me...

Speaking of Techno...the 80s were never gone!
If you listen closely, you can make out that some of the synthlines owes a great deal to Wave- and Synthpop of the 80s and 90s. Nowadays, some hits from the 80s were run through the recycler, like DJ Pulsedrivers version of Kim Wildes "Cambodia". Whether this is good or bad...decide for yourself. Other Techno artists collaborate with members of Synthpop bands, check out Green Court feat. DE/Vision "Shining" or Schiller with Heppner (Peter Heppner is the voice of Wolfsheim, canīt remember the title right now).
If you ever happen to see the video of Blank&Jones, "D.F.F. (DJs, Freaks and Fans)"...itīs a funny joke on 80s chart show broadcastings. Guess the Celebs...chances might be small that this video could be watched/received outside Europe, Viva and MTV Germany are featuring it sometimes.

Did someone of you knew that the career of the Bloodhound Gang started as a Depeche Mode cover band? That might explain that theyīve used a ton of samples like in "Mope" or that general "wavey" touch of their latest album "Hooray For Boobies". By the way, Buff...the song is called "The Bad Touch", but you surely had found this out for yourself now...

i think a lot of today's synthpop bands could easily pass off as 80's bands. distain!, avant garde, de/vision, mesh all have that classic 80's newwave synth sound. it's amazing how much of an influence 80's music still has on today's new artists.

After the (usual...forgive me ) location check...you seem to be pretty well informed especially on German and Swedish synthpop bands.
Way cool...since all the bands from the 80s are more or less playing "adult pop" (or worser ), these bands are carrying on the music I like so much...Iīm that kind of "oldschool hardcore synthpop fan ".

very cool.

i really don't know what i'd do without today's fabulous synthpop. i mean, some of these bands just totally steal my heart. Europe seems to have a lot of them these days. There are quite a few US bands too, but I don't think there as good or as talented.

Yes, there are some cool Synthpop bands from the US...

Red Flag for example is kind of cult here in Germany...canīt tell you how many hours I hung in front of my computer until Iīd finally downloaded "Machines"...

The majority of releases is from Germany and Sweden, though...I think that the Americans are more fond of Industrial.

i agree. in new york city and the surrounding areas, i have my pick of industrial/goth nights/clubs to go to. there's only *one* totally newwave/synthpop night and that's on thursdays. it's actually really really good (thank god) but it would be nice to have a few different places. the other clubs will play the token 5 synthpop dancefloor friendly songs, but you have to be lucky to be around during that set. i hate when i walk in and the synthpop set just ended and then you have to wait through all the crap to for the next set.

Here are some clubs having "80s Nights" or are generally into wave stuff, but I feel strangely displaced there...maybe Iīm too old for "clubbing" now...

I have often thought about returning to business as a DJ again, but...the club scene is quite tight here, itīs not easy to get a place behind the decks now.
