Roemello 1-19-01, 02:59 PM Well, my favorite is Duran Duran's Rio. Never done any kind of music review, so I don't know what to say! I just love just about every song on it. Hungry Like the Wolf, Rio, My Own Way, Hold Back the Rain, Last Chance on the Stairway, Save a Prayer, The Chauffer....how can you go wrong?! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif

"The only true knowledge exists in knowing, that you know nothing"
I think my all time favorite is Tears for Fears, The Hurting. I love the whole album.
Rio was not my favorite DD album, though. I just LOVED 7 and the Ragged Tiger. Such an ODD little album. Of course, I have always loved Odd....

JeniferLyn 1-24-01, 08:10 AM My favorite New Wave tape is Yaz "Upstairs at Erics".
I could listen to it a thousand times and never get tired of it!
Prince - Purple Rain
I never get tired of it.. has lots of feel to each song... I loved Computer Blue, Darling Nikki, When Doves Cry.. but my favorites were Let's Go Crazy, I Would Die 4 U, and Baby, I'm a Star! That cd makes me want to dance... like right now!!
I also loved Duran Duran... I liked every album.. but my favorite was Arena.. I enjoyed the live versions of Planet Earth, Careless Memories and Is There Something I Should Know?
(unlike most people, I was an Andy Taylor fan)
By the way... they are playing in Chicago in March three nights in a row... I'll try to catch one of their shows.
Another great album that I still listen to is Megadeth's "Peace Sells, But Who's Buying?"
The basslines were awesome, and Dave Mustaine was becoming one of my heros at that time.. Songs I liked were of course the title track... Devil's Island, and my favorite "Wake Up Dead"
Quite a variety, huh? The 80s were ALL good to me!

Yes... I realize that Megadeth isn't New Wave... You just got me so excited to review favorite albums that I totally forgot it was supposed to be "New Wave"

NewRomantic 1-26-01, 02:50 AM Well now Tinajo, you're reprimanded!
Please note my sarcasm!
Ok now this may seem like a bit of a cop-out, but I'm going to talk about a best of from Soft Cell.
Why is this a cop-out? Well best of's tend to be (oddly enough) full of only the pop tracks from the artist.
The album "Say Hello To Soft Cell" though, contains mostly their pop songs, but also some B-sides which made me think it's worthy of a review.
Surprisingly, though thankfully, this compilation does not contain 'Tainted Love'. OK now don't get excited. I love 'Tainted Love', it is just that it seems to be on every bloody '80's compilation album. This and Culture Club's 'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me'.
Soft Cell had some other great songs.
'Torch' is a favorite of mine with it's trumpet synth noises and sad sounding yet tuneful lyrics that keep the listner interested.
'Bedsitter' is another track from their 1981 album "Non Stop Erotic Cabaret".
'Facility Girls' is a B-side and opens with some synthesized percussion and some moody synth drones and lyrics that tell the story of a '..secretary in the day time - a bright young thing with a promising career...' This track is not lyrically strong although one hears a lot more about our '..model beauty..' on the 12" version. The simple tinkering tune on top of the bassy drones, is what captured me.
Also on this album, is Soft Cell's version of the title track of the James Bond film, 'You Only Live Twice'.
This album is worth a listen if you're keen about early synthesizer sounds and can cope with some camp/bitchy lyrics.
I'd give it 8/10.
'...do you use up bodies like cigarettes, do you need them for ego, do you need them for sex?...' (From 'Heat').

The self-titled 1983 debut release from 'Industry' may have only been an EP, but what an awesome EP it was :thumb: Five tracks:
Communication
State of the Nation
Romantic Dreams
Still of the Night
Living Alone Too Long
State of the Nation managed a #81 chart peak in the Billboard Hot 100. It was the only hit from the EP, but every song is a winner. 'Romantic Dreams' is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard :)
If you're going for New Romantic, it has to be 'Visage' by Visage, that album practically invented New Romantics and contains 'Visage', 'Fade To Grey' and 'Mind Of A Toy' along with some other choice cuts. :thumb:

That was a wonderful album. 'Fade to Grey' is a classic (with a very strange video). Steve is definately Strange  )

My fave is 'Mind Of A Toy', set in a dolls house, frankly quite disturbing! :thumb:
