Finally!

I went to the W.I.U. campus doctor about a month and a half ago, to get a checkup. I found out there that I was almost 300 lbs, which scared me half to death. Now, just last week, I went back in for some lab testing for an Ultimate Weight Loss Solution group I joined on campus, to find that I had gone down from 298 to 287. :hyper: I also found out that my bad cholesterol levels were stable, and well within the acceptable range. Wish I could say the same for my good cholesterol. But that's my bit of good news. :D

Realizing that you WANT to lose the weight is half the battle. Doing something about it is the other half. Congrats to you on both! :thumb:

Realizing that you WANT to lose the weight is half the battle.

Some people are incapable of that!
Good for you though Metalfan! Hope all goes well, and a healthier lifestyle is the result!

:ghug: Thanks, guys. Weight loss has been a lifelong struggle with me so far, and with losing my grandma to diabetes, and with my own weight climbing to dangerous heights - it's time for a change. Thanks for the support. :D

I was once 300 pounds--couldn't walk more than a few feet without my heart pounding, sweating while I ate, finding the effort just to sit up a huge challenge.

Take your time losing this weight. I have lost my weight slowly over time and it's STAYING off. Slow, gradual changes last the longest. Eventually, your new, healthier habits will just be there and you won't even realize it.

For example--when I used to eat salad, it used to be piled up with cheese, croutons, etc., and then tons of salad dressing. It was often fattier and more calorie laden than eating a cheeseburger!

I learned a trick that saved me a TON of calories: you take just a little bit of the salad dressing you like, even a full fat one. Dip your fork in it, just the tines, and "stab" through the salad fixings. The flavor goes all the way through and you use just a tiny bit.

Now, I take just four croutons, tons of greens and olives (they add a bit of fat but a ton of flavor) and I use about a tablespoon of dressing, any one I like. And I don't even notice anymore that I'm not consuming a pint of the stuff!

You will learn little things along the way like this that will help tremendously and here's a hint--olives, grape leaves, and other Mediterranean veggies help boost the ''good'' cholesterol just a little :thumb:

Congratulations to you metalfan! Very proud of your accomplishment and your determination!

I have the opposite problem and there isn't anything that can be done about it..it's starting to take it's toll on my body and health..but I've known for many years that eventually, it would.

Keep it up..healthy attitude helps alot also.. :)

 Thanks again, guys. I'm going in to get weighed again this upcoming Thursday, so wish me luck!

Brandy - I've sort of done that with my salads, only I put a little bit of tuna in mine, and I use veggie cheese shreds instead of regular cheese. It's awesome! :thumb: I didn't know that olives helps boost the good cholesterol - I'll have to try that next time. :D Thanks for the tip!

Just an update - since it's been a while since I've posted my progress, I'll share with you the results of my dieting thus far. (And for some reason, it won't let me edit my post, soooo... :o )

February, one week before Valentine's Day - 298lbs

October, two weeks before my 22nd birthday - 251.2 lbs

Yeah. I'm not sure what the .2 is for, but whatever! :D

It's been a struggle, but I'm trying my best to hang in there. The support from friends and family have helped immensely. Even if I do indulge in a bag of Skittles once in a while... :p

:ghug:Thanks, all! :ghug:

Hang in there pal! Being a rather big dude myself(I'm 6 ft 6 and around 300 lb's), I'm in the process of dropping a few tons and getting back into shape & the shape I've chosen, is a triangle. LOL! No seriously, Drink Tons of ice Cold water, it's a great detoxifyer. I've read about a gaziilion reports/studies that say it's great for flushing your system out. Drink 10-14 glasses a day and trust me, you'll drop weight. That's what I'm doing, and I've already dropped 15 lbs.
Good luck man. Also, watch what you eat.
