I got a new video card a few months back. I installed the card, installed the new software. Then i flucked up i think i set the resolution to high. BAM! Black screen :irked: I restarted in safe mode farted around some but couldnt fix the problem. I put the old card back in it works great but i can't watch dvd's cause it's 10 years old and has 1mb of memory

My question is this: Can i go in and erase the plug-n-play settings from the new card and start over? OR can i disable p-n-p and set it up without?
If neither of those will work tell me how to start in safe mode(i forgot how) and work the problem that way.

I'm also looking for a good free dvd sofware player. I got Roxio DVDMax 2.0 which is kinda crappy :(

Try uninstalling it from your "Device Manager". Go into your control panel and open the "System" icon, click on the "Hardware" tab and then "Device Manager". Expand the "Display Adapters" entry and find the listing for the card (Radeon 9800 PRO for example), right click on it and chose uninstall. Reboot! If that doesn't take care of it, let me know.

In Device Manager the old card is showin up but not the new one. I installed the new card again restarted in safe mode. Now it hangs in safe mode at the list of drivers that are loading :(

so, you're in the "not here, not there" stage? i'll add a couple of thoughts.

- i thought Safe Mode bypasses the physical device and loads a software-only video deal.

- if that's the case, i wonder if you've got some *additional* problem (maybe one you were co-existing with, peacefully) that botched your plug and play.

- can you still get the original card back in and working? maybe we have to go back and fix something at the system level first (and assumably allow you to install as it should), rather than working on the problem at hand.

- have you had a chance to scour the tech boards for install prob's w/ that card?

Safe mode boots with a simple vga driver.Stupid me did'nt make a note of what driver was loading when safe mode locks up. The original card works perfect

So what have you done with this? Are you keeping the old card?
