In summary, a California principal has banned dirty dancing--in fact, he cut off further dances until they agree to stop.

I agree with this, but the problem is that they have to define what it is so that they can enforce it

Everybody cut, everybody cut
Everybody cut, everybody cut
Everybody cut FOOTLOOSE!

I bet the parents will be having some major cows...not to mention a few lawyers....

Maybe they could do like they did in that one movie (School Ties?) and just put balloons between all the kids.

I suppose I can understand that, although it's not like they really are having sex on the dancefloor. But I agree, they need to define what is "raunchy" and what isn't.

Just like Footloose all over again

Kids should be able to dance however they want as long as they aren't like doing anything R-Rated

The problem is that it's beyond R-rated. The girls are hiking up the back of their dresses and rubbing up against the crotches of the guys, they are simulating sex acts on the floor, etc. This is something that doesn't need to be going on at school. When you are 18 and at a club somewhere, whatever. School is where learning and structure happens, and sometimes it's the only place that there is any structure for some of these kids. I believe in allowing kids to express themselves, but in a positive way, not in a way that promotes promiscuity or the suggestion of it, and may make other kids feel uncomfortable about what they are seeing.

For the record, I am not saying that people should or shouldn't freak dance, but it's something that belongs in an ADULT situation--college and beyond.

I TOTALLY agree with you. I'd flip if our 15 yo daughter was freak dancing at a school function! There is a time, place, and AGE to begin this 'dance stuff' and high school IS NOT the place!!!

I hope this whole thing will work but it probably will backfire on this guy! Unfortunatly. :irked:

When I was in school, if a KID misbehaved in any manner, shape or form (and it was up to an ADULT to say whether something was wrong or not), one would be removed from the dance, game, school function and given a warning. If it happened again at a later date, you would be banned, put in detention, etc... or if it (whatever it was) was bad enough, you were simply removed from the school atmosphere by way of suspension. There were rules. They were the adults, we were the kids. We followed the rules or faced the consequences. At that young, rebelious age, I chose to smoke cigs. But NOT at school, it was against the rules. You wanna freak dance? Take it somewhere else.
