View Full Version : Snow place like home
bookmistres4ever 12-23-04, 05:09 AM Here is our first big snow of the season. It snowed all day today and most of the evening, I believe it's still snowing. Hubby went out to the car about an hour ago, and the snow is up to his knees (and he's 6 feet 4). News this evening at 6 said we had a foot of snow, and were expecting at least another 7 to 10 inches more by morning.
Looks like we're staying home for Christmas. Good thing we went to the store after going to the dentist this morning. The roads were pretty bad, even semi-trailers and big pick-up trucks were having trouble getting traction and were slip sliding away.
This picture was taken from our apartment window about 10:30 tonight.
Just checked this picture, after my post, it's pretty blurry. Rats! the little blob to the right of the long black line in the middle of the picture is a car in the parking lot.
nolanbuc 12-23-04, 06:43 AM Wow, that's alot of snow (to me, anyway). All we got was ice & sleeet. I had lots o' fun driving to work in it last night. All in all, I'll take snow.
Me too Nolan! Seems like in my part of Ohio we get a good bit of ice and sleet. They are calling for freezing rain today. :irked:
Very cool, no snow here in Cali where I live, just cold and fog.
KimJoy69 12-23-04, 09:14 AM WOW!! That's COOL!! :bouncy:
...ooooh sorry... being a Floridian, I tend to get a little excited over the white stuff!! :D
Only a matter of time before I get buried....but today it's 60 degrees....go figure!

Me too! I just hope the roads are clear tomorrow since I have to drive up to my mom's. I wish I had a snowmobile. :D

I'm glad it snowed for Xmas. It's just not the same without snow. :)
Not Man 12-23-04, 07:11 PM That is quite a bit of snow for your area. I have had about a foot or so of snow already this season, but all has melted....only a matter of time before I get hammered again.
Caligula 12-23-04, 07:51 PM We had a snow storm on Sunday, Christmass eve is getting up to 55 degree's and then on Christmas it's dropping down to 0 ....strange weather
keriberri 12-23-04, 08:13 PM I love how beautiful it is the morning after snow, but I hate driving with dimwits who act as if they've never seen snow before! BC is dying for snow, he's been out buying sausers to take the kids sledding (no who's a big kid???) but i guess if you've got 2 weeks off for Christmas break snow wouldn't matter. I want you job honey!!
Annette 12-23-04, 08:23 PM Great pics everyone!! I wish I had a digital cam to show you guys what we've experienced here in Cleveland yesterday into today. Horrible!! I walked outside this morning to having snow up to my lower thighs (I'm 5'3), can't even see my car in the driveway it's completely buried right now, We tried to shovel this crap out of our driveway, but having a driveway at a 45 degree angle without a snow blower just doesn't cut it, so we gave up. Now our temps are going to plunge into the artic temps and we'll beable to open an ice skating rink at the bottom of our driveway  Stay safe everyone :D

You either need:
1) To get a snowmobile, or
2) Park your cars at the end of the driveway and just sled or ski down the hill to the car when you want to go somewhere. I don't have a plan for getting back up the hill, though.

bookmistres4ever 12-26-04, 08:40 PM Hubby dug one of the cars out, so we were able to get out for awhile today. Yay hubby!!!!
Grocery store was packed as well as Wal-Mart, my hubby commented that NOBODY looked happy. I'm just happy to be out of the apartment! I'm really not much of a snow fan. The battery to the other car went dead, but we'll jumpstart it eventually (as long as we have one car working, I'm happy). So, today was a better day then yesterday, go figure?
SouthernImage 12-27-04, 12:01 AM My uncle called us from Ohio, on Christmas Eve. He said they had so much snow they couldn't move the cars. He then had a nicotine fit, so decided to walk 6 miles to the store to buy some cigarettes. Well when he got to the store they were closed. So he cussed the 6 miles back home. To save face with my aunt, since it was so cold. He put his fingers to his mouth in the backyard and pretended to smoke. LMAO
Not Man 12-27-04, 07:33 PM Christmas day I got about 10" of snow. :dammit: Then it got pretty cold...... :irked:
Caligula 12-27-04, 09:23 PM you can add 18 inches of snow for me on boxing day and high winds to boot causing drifting, the snow plow never even made it to my street until 6pm
AngelicR 12-29-04, 05:47 AM Wow, great Christmas weather!!!!
http://melanie.time2change.at/gallery/albums/Mehli/Winter.jpg
80's fanatic 1-02-05, 11:15 PM We got our Big Snow of the season the day after Christmas ( no white Christmas for us :( ) We ended up getting a foot of snow, peanuts to what you got. The city plowed after we got 4 inches ( only 1 pass for the side streets ) and didn't plow after that. :grrr: The roads were virtually impassible, even 3 days after the storm !!!!!!
bookmistres4ever 1-03-05, 06:07 AM Funny thing to all of this was, with all that snow, I really thought we'd be stuck inside for a long time. However, it got *really* warm almost immediately, within 3 days of snowing. It stayed in the low 40's then got up as high as mid 50s all after the big snow. Now the snow is all gone and it is RAINING like... alot... I call it monsoon weather, but it isn't quite *that* bad.
Weird weird weather. It's been so warm, I haven't worn a coat at all, and even wore a pretty tank top and skirt for New Year's Eve.
Prefab Sprouter 1-04-05, 09:04 AM We rarely get snow here, just lots of cold wind and rain.
Eric T H 1-04-05, 09:17 AM We had snow fall on christmas day which is the first time for many years, sadly though it didn't stick which could have something to do with living in a seaside resort.
It was still nice to see it falling though :D
