Anyone remember these three great Canadian bands?

Sheriff was formed in 1979 in Toronto

Band members:
Arnold Lanni (keyboards, vocals)
Freddy Curci (lead vocals)
Wolf Hassel (bass, vocals)
Steve de Marchi (guitar)
Rob Elliott (drums)

The first single by Sheriff was You Remind Me. It soared into the Canadian top 20 in 1982, but it would be their next single that would make them a staple on radio.

When I'm With You was released in 1983 and went straight to #1 in Canada. It also became their first hit in America reaching #62 on the Billboard charts. Following the success of their self-titled debut, Sheriff unfortunately called it quits in 1985.

In 1986, Lanni and Hassel formed Frozen Ghost and by 1987 were already in the Canadian top 20 with the songs End of the Line and Should I See, the latter which became their only American hit reaching #69 on the Billboard charts.

After 3 successful album releases, Frozen Ghost would call it quits in 1993

In 1988, a Las Vegas Radio DJ began to play When I'm With You and eventually other stations did likewise and in Christmas of 1988, the single was re-released in America and soared straight to #1

This success led to a the formation of Alias, a project by original Sheriff members Curci and DeMarchi. T

he self-titled debut album by Alias appeared in 1990 and charted two top 5 singles in both the U S and Canada with Waiting For Love and More Than Words Can Say

Could never forget Sheriff. "When I'm With You" takes me all the way back to 1988 whenever I hear it. It also goes to show the power of radio. Too bad there are no more DJ's resurrecting more aged music and maybe making them mainstream again.

I have the first alias album - it is just shy of excellent. Very Foreigner-ish. One of those bands you would have expected to get further than they did. Oh well.

I didn't know Sheriff could be classed under Glam / Hard Rock. Frozen Ghost definately can't because they were New Wave, but I guess both Sheriff and Alias did have a harder sound than most pop :thumb:

Leave it to DogWhistle to resurrect Classic Canadian Rock information!

My cousin went to school and dated Freddy ... she dumped him cause she said he was a bam ... who lost out on that!!!

But if you're going to mention the likes of Sherrif, Frozen Ghost and Alias... you can't forget to add SURRENDER (Alfie Zappacosta) ... one hit wonders with 'Its All Been Done Before' .... Alfie Zappacosta went onto a solo career, not bad, but far from his original rock persona in Surrender.

Yet more Canadian music trivia for us to ponder!

There's no Canadian band/artist in the 80's that I don't know about (well maybe a few)

Surrender actually snuck into the Canadian charts a 2nd time with the song 'Start Again' in January of 1983. Zappacosta had a couple of good songs on his own (ie: 'Nothing Could Stand in Your Way'), but Surrender was his goldmine. It's too bad they didn't stick around longer
