View Full Version : Fav Reality "contest" show
galaga-girl 11-27-04, 08:37 PM Ok, yes another reality show thread the shows i enjoy the most are the contestant ones. I watch nearly all of them, my top favs are Survivor, the amazing race, the apprentice and top model.
My fav of all is def The Amazing Race, as much as I love Survivor, it just doesn't grip me like Amazing Race, it is so fast paced and there is always one team that I just can't stand which makes it even better :fight:
whistledog 11-27-04, 08:45 PM I chose Idol. I don't like "Canadian Idol", but the "American Idol" is OK
Tanya1976 11-27-04, 09:02 PM Idol is my favorite, though I do watch (from time to time) America's next top model. But, I'm getting kind of sick of that one anyway. Tyra's picking the same kind of model - no one really special.
Nikki_91 11-27-04, 09:38 PM I'm addicted to American Idol for some reason.
Survivor is sucking the life out of me  I'm totally addicted :D
Glenn Gulia 11-27-04, 09:58 PM Survivor is the only one i watch. :thumb:
SouthernImage 11-27-04, 10:14 PM I like the Swan. I like it for the fact that both women come out winners even though 1 goes into the pageant. To get all that work done for free. Thats a winner :D
I chose "other" (Fear Factor).
You forgot Fear Factor (now on Monday-Friday (http://ff.console.net/main.html)). I think it's the only reality show I've watched more than once.
80's fanatic 11-27-04, 11:47 PM I picked Idol. There are so many talented " voices " out there and I enjoy watching the best ones win. Though I don't always agree with all those that are " dubbed " Idol, it's exciting for me to watch the contestants " grow " week after week. I haven't missed one American Idol yet. :)
bookmistres4ever 11-28-04, 03:32 AM I'm not a *big* fan of these types of shows, but the ones I liked were the Amazing Race, and the dating competitions shows for odd people like "Average Joe" and "The Littlest Groom" or whatever it was called with the little people dating.
80sTrivia 11-28-04, 06:53 AM I'm not a huge fan of reality shows in general, but like Wendy, I'm hooked on The Amazing Race. The new season started the week before last here, and the teams haven't grown on me this season as they did last (The Soccer Moms, Colin and Christie, Brandon and Nicole, Charla and Myrna, and Chip and Kim). It's the only reality show that I would even consider actually participating in! :thumb:
I couldn't stand Myrna and Schmerna!
It's a tough one for me. I love Amazing Race and Survivor, but I think Survivor just makes it to the top spot for me.
keriberri 11-28-04, 09:55 PM As much as I am sick and tired of reality shows I have to admit I have watched almost all of them and it's so easy to get hooked on em. :bashful: My favs are Survivor (it's getting OLD and boring though) The Apprentice and The Amazing Race. Apprentice and Amazing Race are tied for first! I'd love to be on the Amazing Race just to travel to all those wonderful places and do the awesome road blocks!!
BCRichRocker4JC 11-28-04, 11:25 PM The Apprentice - hands down.
Although, Keri's got me into "The Amazing Race" now. Survivor is too boring. Same place, same circumstance, different set of people.
tzimsce 11-30-04, 12:27 AM Hey! Where's "Fear Factor"??? :thumb: That show is for real, though I hate all the editing. It doesn't get any realer than watching people eating slugs and putting their heads up into glass boxes that contain large spiders

I've occasionally watched Fear Factor. (It's now on five days a week (http://ff.console.net/main.html)...as well as by NBC.)
Hipechik70 11-30-04, 12:40 PM I dont have just one, HELLO MY NAME IS EVIE AND I'M ADDICTED TO THESE SHOWS:
The Amazing Race
Survivor
The Restaurant
Big Brother
The Swan
and.......
*Real World/Road Rules
*Mom swap
*Extreme Make Over
(theres more i can't think of them...ohh...)
BCRichRocker4JC 11-30-04, 01:04 PM I have a question maybe someone here can answer. How come on "The Swan", on one episode, a woman got a breast enlargement to DD and that was cool? OK, that's fine if she wants that. I'm alright with that and so was the Doc. But then on another episode two Sister's who were both DD got reductions and this was the Docs advice also? So let's see if you have a small chest than DD is acceptable and if you already are big and have DD size breasts than you really should get a reduction. Hmm... Seems kind of double standard to me. At least on "Extreme Makeover" they were somewhat consistent. And, oh yeah, they actually had participants that really had some serious physical problems. Some of the gals when they started on The Swan were by no means beauty queens but weren't all that bad like on Extreme Makeover. And Extreme Makeover had men on there also. I just kind of think those "makeover" shows are kind misleading anyway. Yeah, if you believe you look good on the outside that will help you feel more confident but will not erase a lifetime of low self esteem. It'll just give you something else to find fault in unless you work out the root of the problem.
(Keri, you got me watching these with you )
OK, got that off my chest so to speak ;). Ranting over
bookmistres4ever 11-30-04, 04:38 PM (Keri, you got me watching these with you )
 That's too funny! My hubby says the same thing about this daytime "reality show" called Starting Over (about 5 women from all kinds of different backgrounds, with various "problems" usually centering around self esteem/self expression, all picked to live away from their families together in one house and get intensive therapy to work out their probkems.
My hubby says I should try out for the program, and now he watches it when I have it on sometimes too. lol

That is so true. From personal experience I found that I could not lose weight or feel happy until after I married my current husband, and I dealt with my feelings of inadequacy and low self esteem. I'm still working on it, but am a thousand times better then I was. I adore my husband and he helped save my life. I only wish everyone could have a loving and supportive partner in life that I do. I now feel like a completely different person then after my divorce (before I met my second husband.)
galaga-girl 11-30-04, 06:02 PM OK, can someone tell me if 80's trivia has given away who won the Amazing Race?? Because it isn't over here yet and I was bowling mums in the message and just stopped reading in case!! We have something like 3 - 4 eps left and I don't wanna know who wins!!!
80sTrivia 11-30-04, 07:55 PM No, Wendy I didn't give away who won last season's Amazing Race, so you can safely read my message!!!
galaga-girl 11-30-04, 08:50 PM Thanks :thumb: I hate being spoiled. I am totally loving this season, I don't know when we will get the one that is on in the US right now, probably in 3 months or so. It sucks having to wait - the show doesn't do very well in the ratings here and is normally on at midnight. We get Survivor only 3 - 7 days after it airs in the US and 2 hours after it airs for the final ep, so we don't have to be spoiled.
I couldn't stand Myrna and Schmerna
OMG, I loved them and was very upset when they got eliminated, I thought they were very genuine people not like some other asses that are STILL on the show :grrr: I won't mention any names but does wife beater give anyone a clue???

Wow, is that season still on there? It was definitely one of the best. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The new series started out here last weekend. (Don't anyone give away what's happened! ;) )
I got totally sick of Myrna and Charla. Every week Myrna had to remind us how she had something to prove because she was a dwarf and how she was capable of doing anything normal people could. Her ego was bigger than her! And not only that, but they were dirty players. Nup, couldn't stand them. I was willing them to be illiminated every week and was glad when they finally did.
Survivor is too boring. Same place, same circumstance, different set of people.
I don't understand why they keep having to have these on islands. I think the best ones were where they were in more unusual places like the desert in Africa and the Amazon rainforrest. There are so many other places they could have them. How about "Survivor - Congo" or "Survivor - Himilaylas". How about in an icy environment? "Survivor - Antarctica" or "Survivor - Russia"? There are so many better places than just boring old tropical islands.
Hey! Where's "Fear Factor"??? .
Is that really considered reality TV? Isn't that just a series of challenges, much like a game show but outdoors? I've seen similar shows like that "Krypton factor", "Top Town" (A team competition), Clash of the Codes (Sports stars competing in different events to see, which type of sport produced the best athletes.)They were never classed as reality TV.
galaga-girl 11-30-04, 09:09 PM How about in an icy environment?
EXACTLY!! My fav one was when they were in Australia, I loved the contestants and the environment made for a better show. Islands tend to be more boring. They do need to start getting more variety into the places they pick to go to.
Caligula 11-30-04, 09:41 PM hooked on Survivor and Amazing Race ( wow all the hot chicks and big boobies this year doesn't hurt either) . I also get stuck watching both Canadian and American I dol, but I don't really like it
Yes, Survivor Australia was different too. I put that one up there along side of Amazon and Africa.

Exactly!!! I have been saying the same thing. I mean how about a forested location or a snowy tundra? I mean how really hard is it to survive in a tropical climate??!! The coldest it gets is probably 55F or more (generally 65F or warmer) at night and has a plethora of edible plants and fruit. It's kind of like Survivor - Hawaii right now.
80sTrivia 12-01-04, 05:05 AM If you guys (overseas) like The Amazing Race, then you are going to enjoy The Rebel Billionaire with Virgin Records maverick Sir Richard Branson. It's sort of a cross between The Apprentice (and Sir Richard has much more appeal and personality than Donald Trump) and The Amazing Race.

I just wanted to chime in here on what your'e going through, Mistress ;) Please don't take this as an attempt on my part to "plug" myself, but one thing that I have learned from my marriage is that the most important thing is that you're BEST FRIENDS FIRST, THEN LOVERS. My wife and I do almost everything together, and after two years of marriage (four years together) we sometimes like our own space but feel empty inside when the other one isn't around. I also want to congratulate you on your losing weight. My wife is on her voyage to get her weight back down to normal. She is 5'2" and weghed 223 at one point, but now is starting to look sexy at 173 (her weight for her age and size should be around 125) after five months of eating the right foods with moderation and walking 3.7 miles (on a beautiful road going back to this old house in the country) 3-5 times per week. I have enjoyed very much being her "coach", and her learning to live healthily has taught me SO much about myself and has helped me to be more aware of her feelings. She says that I seem to know her limits (I'm actually thinking of going back to college for a teaching degree because of this), but I really and truely think that if you want to look and feel healthy and sexy, you have to practice being healthy and sexy. Everything from cutting down on sodas, adding more water, getting adequate and consistent sleep, keeping good posture in sitting and standing, and making sure that you safely break a sweat when you're walking. Funny how all these girls go to the gym to pump weights and run on a treadmill like a horsing chasing a carrot on a stick, to the tune of General Hospital on the television hanging overhead, when ALL you have to do is walk. Anyway, be aware of your hubby's feelings (and your own), get him an Ale-8 (or better yet, a glass of orange juice with ice, yummy!!!!) and take a nice, long walk with him everyday in the country or on a lonely suburban street. Have a great day! :thumb:
Out of all of them I would have to choose Big Brother I was addicted to the last one and I can't wait until the next one. I know I need to get a life, but hey sometimes it is just funny to see grown people back stabb eachother on national T.V.

 The last BB is the first one I ever watched. I have never yelled at my TV so much...Holly takes the cake for TV all looks no brains..and Jase was pathetic!!! I was rooting for Marvin..poor guy~
I wanted Marvin to win so bad :( And that Holly chick man I hated her, did you see when they all got together and talked? She is a total blonde!!
Cowboy should have won, damn he needed to win to fix his teeth. Did you notice his teeth? I wonder if he and Jennifer his sister still talk?
BCRichRocker4JC 12-01-04, 08:22 PM On BB, my favs were Karen and Marvin.

Oh man, cowboy needed the win on so many levels!!! I laughed my butt off when they started playing Marvin quotes with subtitles to understand his speech! I hope Cowboy and Jennifer talk, she took it too personal when she was kicked out. She would have done it to him first if she had 1/2 the chance... :yesnod:

.
The reason is cause they would die and dead people don't make good television.... The contestants would need to be bundles up in winter clothes 7 24 and the producers want them running around in skimpy outfits. All you would see is bunch of covered up shivering idiots staying in a heated cabin or else cutting each others frost bitten toes off . -20 to -30 here with all the conviences of modern life (except spell check) and you don't stay outside too long, let alone drop 16 people off in the dead of winter in Siberia or the Antarctic

I thought that's why it's inappropriately called "Survivor" (sorry the show is not made for watching boobies bounce. Try "Baywatch" for that kind of entertainment). But even with that said Recker also mentioned the desert in Africa which I believe get's a little warmer than -20 or -30. But then what, would they die of heatstroke???
bookmistres4ever 12-02-04, 10:30 AM But then what, would they die of heatstroke???
No, probably die of being munched on by lions. (I wander off the board singing "The Lion sleeps tonight")
