Ok you animal lovers....Here's a sweet and true story for you all :)
The school called me the other day. They knew that we are animal lovers. Seems like the matience man, Joe, found some kittens the other day in one of the back buildings. They were about 2 weeks old or so since they had their eyes open. The next day, he saw that one was dead and the other three were gone. The mother wasn't around. Then later in the day, they (people at the school..staff getting ready) found the remaining three kittens in a grassy area right up by the school.
We are guessing that the mother wasn't able to take care of them and knew that there were people around who might be able to.
The kittens were weak and they tried feeding them with an eyedropper..that worked for a little bit but they knew that they weren't going to be there over the weekend and they were trying to figure out what to do.
They called us..we went right down and we said that we'd be glad to see what we could do for them. We had some extra bottles on hand and they took to the milk pretty well.
My calico cat Molly, was sniffing around the kittens..I told the girls to watch her around them (Molly lost a batch of her own kittens during an awful experience around Mother's Day)..then she started to lick on them. Pretty soon, the kittens went up to her.
Long story short...they are using her just as sort of a pacifier...even though we are feeding them, she's letting them, They're happy, strong, purring, and Molly is very content..
It's like she has adopted them and gets on her guard if we go near the kittens now.
