From the pages of the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com, the best entertainment resource on the web), some of the more noteworthy stories of the week, with a little of my own editorial for good measure:
“Moore sued for doctoring newspaper”
Oscar-winning director Michael Moore is being sued by a furious American newspaper for allegedly "doctoring" the paper's front page for his controversial documentary Fahrenheit 9/11. A scene in the movie shows newspaper headlines relating to the legally contested 2000 American presidential election and includes a shot of Bloomington, Illinois newspaper The Pantagraph with a headline reading 'Latest Florida recount shows Al Gore won election' - which was not actually used on the first page. Instead the headline was found in much smaller type above a letter to the editor, which the paper says reflects "only the opinions of the letter writer".
– If nothing else, you have to appreciate the dynamic. Doctoring the cover page of a newspaper warrants a lawsuit. Meanwhile, doctoring the results of an election earns you the title of “President of the United States”. Maybe Tom Daschle and his fellow Democrat Senators can take the Editor of the Pantagraph aside and tell him/her to "just move on"....
"Hilton Pressure Taking Its Toll on Carter”
Pop singer Nick Carter broke down in tears during a reunion with his Backstreet Boy bandmates in Los Angeles on Friday - after he was quizzed over ex-lover Paris Hilton's shocking bruises. The hitmaker has rubbished speculation that he was responsible for Hilton's injuries, which were discovered after she was spotted with a swollen lip and bruised arms at Hollywood's Concord Club last Wednesday..... Hilton has refused to confirm Carter's explanation that she received the injuries during an S&M photo shoot.
– Speaking of S&M, I can’t figure out what’s more sadistic: Paris Hilton’s kinky sex behavior, or the Backstreet Boys subjecting the public to another album and tour. But at least Paris will leave a mint on your pillow....
“Halle Berry Slams Plastic Surgery”
Naturally stunning actress Halle Berry has slammed women who undergo cosmetic surgery and finds the whole process "terrifying". The Oscar-winner made the comments as she joined her Catwoman co-star Sharon Stone at a press conference at London's Dorchester yesterday, ahead of the film's British premiere. Berry says, "We've become obsessed with beauty and the fountain of youth. I'm really saddened by the way women mutilate their faces today in search of that. I see women in their thirties pulling this up and tucking that back. It's like a slippery slope -once you pull one thing one way and then you think, 'Oh God, I've got to do the other side.' There is this plastic, copycat look evolving and that's frightening to me. It's really insane and I feel sad that's what society is doing to women."
– Sharon Stone just sat there and looked -really- uncomfortable....
“Murphy’s Two Real Life Break-ups During Filming”
Brittany Murphy experienced two break-ups during the making of latest film Little Black Book - including ending her relationship with Ashton Kutcher before he began dating Demi Moore. The Hollywood actress, 26, who plays TV producer Stacy Holt who wants to uncover information about her boyfriend's ex-girlfriends, broke up with Kutcher at the start of making the film and then-fiance Jeffrey Kwatinetz.
– When reached for comment, Kutcher was quoted as saying, “I’m Ashton Kutcher.... AND I’M AWESOME!!!!”
“Jessica Simpson’s Concert Struggle”
Becoming a reality TV star has done little for Jessica Simpson's pop career - promoters have had to cut the price of tickets to see her perform in a bid to fill seats. The sexy star of Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica sang at Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheatre on Friday as part of her Jessica Simpson Reality Tour. But organizers faced a frantic battle before the gig to fill the 6,000 capacity venue. According to American news site Pagesix.Com $50 tickets were cut to $20 prior to the show – and then reduced again to, "Buy three $20 seats - get one free."
– Rumors that winos were offered complimentary 40 ouncers of ‘Golden Glow’ to fill the remaining 2000 seats are as yet unsubstantiated. Do you get the feeling that Jessica Simpson is only one album away from working at the same car wash as Kris Kross, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer and the Spice Girls?
“Mary Kate’s Culinary Ambition”
Troubled teen star Mary-Kate Olsen wants to train as a chef and open her own restaurant - despite having just checked out of rehabilitation for an eating disorder The 18-year-old actress spent six weeks in an undisclosed health facility until leaving last month, but insists she loves food and dreams of cooking for a living in the future. The New York Minute multi-millionaire said in a recent interview - before her eating disorder was revealed - "I want to go to culinary school because I love cooking. One day I'd love to open up a restaurant or cafe." Both Mary-Kate and her sister Ashley will begin studying at New York University this autumn.
– Translation from Hollywood code to real speak: “Now that I’m 18 years old and expected to entertain a demographic that's advanced beyond 'Clifford, the Big Red Dog', I’ll be lucky to get a job flipping hamburgers at McDonalds”. Still, you know that you've made your mark in this world when you finally achieve the industry label of "troubled teen"....
"Electra to Reduce Breasts"
Former Baywatch beauty Carmen Electra is set to leave her hordes of male fans hugely disappointed - because she's considering having her breasts reduced. The sexy actress, married to rocker Dave Navarro, had her chest size boosted in the 90s, but now often has regrets about not having stayed natural. Electra says, "I had nice breasts to begin with. They weren't the biggest boobs (but) I just think it was really trendy (to have implants) at a certain time and I decided to do it. There's moments when I think it's kind of silly and I wish I would've just stayed natural." She adds of her husband Navarro, "He actually wants me to get 'em bigger but I said no."
– At least Carmen will still have -one- big boob.... her supportive hubby Dave Navarro!!!
