How many of you have bad allergies? I live in a smoggy area and have had bad allergies in the past. Just for health reasons I decided to give up soft drinks about 3 years ago. I have not had serious allergy problems since then. Have any of you found other things that have helped your allergies other than meds?

When I was younger I had allergies pretty bad and I had to have alergy shots every week. Now I don't have them as bad...every now and then my eyes will start itching and the 'ol nose gets plugged. Right now I am using Flonase spray and IMO it is the best thing that I have tried in a long time.

I don't know of anything other than meds to help....Sorry ImSoooSure

Notman, I, too had to take those acursed allergy shots (as often as twice a week for a while) I have recently had a bad recurrence of my allergies. My doc gave me a sample of Allegra & it worked pretty well, but it is only 12 hrs. I've tried Claritin also, but it didn't work as well for me.
Two of my sons inherited my allergies, so they're on meds now (thankfully not shots!)
As for asthma, Imsooosure, my yougest had it and he used a nebulizer for his treatments (still does occasionally), which I understand is becoming more popular.

Man I hated those shots

The funny thing is I am allergic to dog hair, cat hair, dust, ragweed and a few other things, and I have a dog.

Good for you Notman, I wouldn't give up having a dog for anything! Just yesterday I saw a show about kids with allergies and asthma. The Dr's were trying to get them off of inhalers. They changed their diets to add lots of fruits and veggies and had them drink huge amounts of water. I believe it was like 30% improved significantly. Who knows, I guess it's different for everybody.

Damn Nottie...we must be blood brothers. I'm allergic to all those things too, and I have 5 cats! Wouldn't get rid of them for the world! I'm also allergic to penicillin and other antibiotics...

Yeah!!! I just love these animal lovers on here. Whats a few allergies compared to the love we get from our pets? I have 3 horses and 2 dogs and they're worth every sneeze, cough and sniffle!

My allergies started when I was 15. At first I was allergic to dogs which I really hated because I like dogs. However, this has changed (no - not my love for dogs - my allergies!) and now I'm allergic to cats - go figure - which I don't mind so much because I'm not a cat person (no offense!). My other allergies are: birch, grass (the lawn kind), nuts, dust(mites) and stuff I don't even know the English word for...... My grass allergies seem to have improved though as I didn't experience anything during the grass season this year! Yipeee! I've never had shots - just taken pills during the allergy season (May - September).
