View Full Version : hey Sal
Was thinking about that e-mail you sent out the other day Sal. You mentioned that you had tips for anyone wanting to lose some weight. I could use some help with that right now. Seems to be hard for me to do with my thyroid problems. Think I have my medication straightened out with that for now though. Won't know for sure till my blood test next month though. I'll take any advice you might have though. Thanks.

Sal, it was good to hear that everything went well at the hospital, and that you're recovering well!
Take it slow,
Sarg
Sal Collaziano 2-05-01, 04:12 PM Thanks Sarg! I'm sick with a cold right now, but doing well since the surgery!
Jazzmyn.. Well, let me ask this before getting into the plan that I've used to drop 45 pounds EASILY since July 1, 2000... Would you be alright on a LOW carb diet? Trust me, when you don't EAT carbs, your body doesn't CRAVE them. Trust me on that! All you need is a few days to MAXIMUM a couple of weeks and you're home-free... The cravings stop... I lost 45 pounds and I never starved. Also, I eat so many Zero or Low carb foods that RESEMBLE carboydrates - and that makes it even easier. For example.. I eat chocolate candy that has no sugar but TASTES like it's got sugar.. I eat Pasta that's not really pasta - and it TASTES like pasta! I eat cereal that has no carbs.. I drink milk that has no carbs or sugar.. It's NOT hard to low carb anymore. And when I say low carb, it's 25 grams per day for the first two weeks.. Then you build up to around 40 or 50 per day as time goes on. Really, not hard at all! Plus, you get to eat all the Fake carb foods there are and they're not included as carbs (because they're not carbs. They just take like 'em).
Let me know if you could do the low-carb thing.. If you can, then I'll get into all the details.. It's really not as hard as you're probably thinking...

That sounds pretty interesting Sal. Would love to hear more about it. Part of my problem has been my work schedule. I work swing shifts and dinner for me is at 11:30 at night. lol Hard to find things that work when you have an odd schedule. This sounds like it might work though.

Sal Collaziano 2-05-01, 06:27 PM With this way of life you can eat whenever you want.. I'll try to make it really easy since I'm on the run at the moment.. Around here in New York, you can buy "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" book ANYWHERE. EVERYONE in New York is on Atkins. If you're not, you're either thin or you're in a wierd dream. Anyways, reading a few chapters of this book will get you completely INFOED on everything you need to know. All the foods you can eat, how many carbs, etc.. It's really better to read the book than listen to me because I could leave out something important. There IS kind of a lot to know. BUT, there is this REALLY, REALLY helpful forum (soughta like this one) with LOTS of really friendly people who will help you through when you've got a question.
I know, I know. You're thinking, "Why do I have to buy this stupid book?" - Well, it's a cheap little book but (actually, here it is.. It costed my $7.50) it could completely change your life.. If you absolutely don't want to buy the book, I will go through it with you as best as I can. Just at the moment, I've got to run.. Okay? Let me know what you're thinking... But - this way of life works!

Hey Sal.. I have heard once that the low carb diet does help to drop the pounds, but you can't do the diet for too long as it is not healthy for your body... do you know anything about this? I had a doctor that strongly disagreed with it... is it somewhat contoversial?
And by the way... what kind of foods can you eat that will give you less than 25 carbs a day for 2 weeks?
Are they a particular "diet" food... or something commonly sold in the grocery store?
I am curious...

Sal Collaziano 2-06-01, 01:25 PM No, doctors say that Atkins is bad but they're wrong. There is no nutritional value in sugar (first of all). And the only thing you're missing by eating very few carbs is Fiber. You must suppliment Fiber - that's all. Basically, if you can eat Spinach or some Broccoli every day, you're fine. It's fiber! But if you don't like that sought of thing, simply add fiber to your diet.. Dietary Fiber. It's easy enough and then there are no health risks.
Remember - Doctors are very stubborn. They used to say it was impossible that anabolic steroids build muscle. This was a common "fact" amongst doctors in the 80s and early 90s...

Sal.. you also mentioned that you can eat chocolate that taste like sugar but contains no sugar... I had a professor last year told me that your body is tricked into turning something that tastes sweet into calories anyway, (i.e. Diet Coke for example)...
And you never mentioned what types of food that you CAN eat.

Sal Collaziano 2-07-01, 12:16 PM Well, you can eat everything that's non-carb. Eggs, chicken, fish, turkey, beef. Most cheeses are fine, sour cream, mayonaisse, all the butter you want, etc.. And, your cholesterol drops.. Strange but true..
And yes, I HAVE heard about what you mention. Your body things it's sugar and reacts the same way (releasing insulin). I don't know for sure how accurate this really is because I seem to do fine with the sugar substitutes, diet sodas, etcetera...
