Earlier this week, ET confirmed that MARY-KATE OLSEN had checked herself into a treatment center to "seek professional help for a health-related issue." Tonight, we have the details of Mary-Kate's intervention!

ET has learned that Mary-Kate's father, DAVE OLSEN, spearheaded a family intervention with the help of Mary-Kate's therapist just days after her June 7 high school graduation with twin sister, ASHLEY. The strategy was said to get her into a professional treatment center, reportedly for anorexia, before her 18th birthday on June 13 so the family could have legal control over her.

Mary-Kate's shrinking frame became a concern for observers over the past couple months as the twins went public to promote their new movie, 'New York Minute,' received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and graduated high school. The Olsens have acknowledged that being a teen fashion icon is a stressful role to maintain, especially with millions of young girls looking up to them, and many believe the pressure to be perfect under the spotlight became too much of a burden for Mary-Kate.

"They've been under such tremendous pressure," says longtime friend TIM ALLEN. "I always think it's too bad artists have to be displayed in public, but she did it with class. She's a young girl. [She's] got a lot of future ahead of her and really good support personnel around her."

By turning 18, the former "Full House" stars finally gain control of their estimated $300 million in assets. And in addition to supporting their new endeavors and billion-dollar merchandising empire, the twins are about to embark on an all-new journey: college. This fall, they plan to attend New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. There, they will reportedly share a $3.5 million bachelorette pad in Manhattan. But the idea of an abrupt change in Mary-Kate's lifestyle may have contributed to her problem.

"People keep on thinking eating disorders are about food and not about issues of control," eating disorder specialist DR. IRA SACKER tells ET. "Probably what was occurring was that she was feeling overwhelmed and flooded by all these changes going on."

In a recent A&E "Biography" on the twins, dad Dave Olsen may have allowed some insight into Mary-Kate's growing problem when he acknowledged his girls are like any other teens about to enter a new stage in their lives. "They have the same concerns and they're not so sure of themselves all the time," he said. "Just like any other kid."

Watch ET tonight for all the latest on Mary-Kate's health crisis.

Aww, poor girl! I can totally understand where she would need at least SOMETHING in her life that she could control. And having to keep up the outrageous image that is expected of those two is something else as well! I hope she's able to get some help. I wouldn't wish this awful thing to get it's claws around ANY girl!

Am I the only one that is totally fed up with multi-millionaires crying "poor me"?

I know I 'survived' my teens without needing massive teams of psychotherapists, as did just about every other human being that ever made it to the age of 20 in the history of humanity.

And what the heck is Tim Allen talking about when he says "I always think it's too bad artists have to be displayed in public" ? Hello, that's what they choose to do for a living and make money from. And either one of the Olsen twins should be classified as 'an artist'? What a moron!

blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

Enough Bogie ranting for now :D
