View Full Version : Advice...?

I know this might sound kinda cheesy, but maybe we could have a place where people can go to talk about their problems and possibly get advice from people who have been there. I know that doesn't really have anything to do with the 80s, but this seems like a very friendly place, and a place where people would be willing to help others out if they could. I know people come to me for advice a lot, so maybe it could work. I don't know. It's just a suggestion. I'm very new to this board, so I don't want you to think that I know what I'm talking about, because I'm not really sure. I just want to get active, and I thought getting my ideas out there would be a good way to get active http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif Let me know what you think...

He he... Dawn said "motion" http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif

a-hem... on a serious note... CarrieAnn... your suggestion is wonderful... now I know that the great and powerful Sal will want to know if you are prepared to moderate such a forum...and yes is the reply that you will give him... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00wink.gif

Sal... if we can combine some of the Dance/techno... an other forums into one more usuable forum... we will have room for an advice forum!

If CarrieAnn does not want to moderate it...I can or I will even help her moderate it if she likes... but it was her idea...

The only question is....how many people will be willing to ask for advice? or how many want or need advice? If there's a high enough demand for it, this would be a nice addition http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif We got plenty of advisors, but ya need advisees for the deal to work http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I'd be more than happy to offer my limited advice. I have had to travel a couple of hard paths, so if I could help anyone in the same type of situations, I would be happy to listen.

First, CarrieAnn, the only bad question is the one that is not asked. Any suggestion, comment, or question you and anyone else comes up with is welcome. Second, isn't that one of the things The Member's Lounge is for. I'm not saying that there is not a need for this and I am not discounting the sincerety of the suggestion. It is a very good one. It shows you are a very caring person CarrieAnn. It just seems that sometimes people post there problems and ask for advice in The Lounge. I just wonder if there would be a real demand for the creation of such a forum. This is just my two cents worth, I like the idea, I just wonder how much of a response there would be.

I love the idea, CarrieAnn! - and good question, Annual Mayhem!

This is what I am going to do. I'm going to ask Allen Ayres (The UBB Mod Master) if he can whip up something to give this particular forum (which hasn't been created yet) an Anonymous feature. This way, if you feel funny about asking something, you can do it without anyone knowing it's you. I do wonder if the forum would get used - but CarrieAnn has such a great point! This is one MAJORLY friendly community. People are really ridiculously friendly around here! It's not like this everywhere else.

We can have up to four moderators in any given forum. I think it would be a good idea to have all four spots taken for this kind of thing - for anyone who would like to give it a try. This way, if there is a serious situation, if you choose to you can be notified of messages posted. Would it be good to have 2 guys and 2 girls as mods?

Anyways, I like the idea and I'm asking about this Anonymous feature right now... Thank you for the suggestion, CarrieAnn!

I think it's a great idea CarrieAnn. People are always looking for some suggestions or just talk about problems that they may have, but usually won't ask for it. This may help open doors for them, knowing that help is available for those who want it.

You don't always know for sure if something is going to work until you try it, right?

I think you have a good idea there Sal. Would be good to have 2 guys and 2 girls as the moderators for something like this. I'd offer to help with this, but my life is pretty messed up right now. Trying to get it under control somehow. I really like the idea though. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Hehe! I'll miss Tinajo too...

Hmm. The response I got from the UBB people was to try something simple regarding the Anonymous part. Since there's nothing to do that right now, they suggested making it a forum where you do not have to register. From that point, you can either use your login and password to post your message OR use any login name you wish - as long as it's not a name that's been registered already. So, it would basically be anonymous if you wanted it to be.

What do we think?

That sounds really good Sal. I actually think that some of the people leaving advice might also want to remain anonymouse.

And your right, Silveradocruiser. How are we going to make it here without our Tinajo? http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif

well, I'm glad everyone liked my idea. I would be more than happy to moderate it if I knew exactly what to do. I understand the responsibility that comes with wanting something to get done. I think it would be really helpful and beneficial to alot of the members here. The anonymity thing would be a great idea. I think that would help get it off the ground. I'm sure more people would be wiling to post there if that were the case.

I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys sooner on this, but my life has been really crazy lately and I haven't had the chance. Maybe that's why I had the idea for this forum in the first place http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif So, if someone could get back to me and let me know what I would have to do, I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe then we could actually get this thing off the ground! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif
