View Full Version : Prayers, Spells, Energies, What have you....

As some of you know....I've been having some problems with my left leg for a couple of months. Well, after seeing a few QUACKS in my area for awhile, I finally decided to travel back down to Westchester County, where the GOOD doctors are, to see what the hell was wrong.

It turns out I have a herniated disc that's pressing on the sciatic nerve in my left leg. I'm fine when I'm standing or walking, buit if I sit or lie down for more than 30 seconds, when I stand back up it feels like someone stuck a knife in the back of my thigh. NOT cool!

I'm calling today to set up therapy, which the doc said might do the trick. If therapy doesn't work, we move on to cortisone/steroid injections into my spine....lovely! If those don't work, the only alternative is surgery....which would lay me out for SIX WEEKS, which at this time I can't afford for ANYTHING!

So......if you all can, please....prayers, spells, energies, candles, rituals, voodoo dolls....ANYTHING so that the therapy does the trick!

I'd really appreciate it....http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/contrib/edoom/puppy_dog_eyes.gif

Bro, if the disc doesnt rupture, surgery is a waste of time. Go with the therapy, do all teh stretching excerceises they give you, EXACTLY as they tell you to. If you carry your wallet in your back pocket, stop doing that, it causes a shift in your discs when you sit down. Stretching can make things better, but it takes time, dont get discouraged! I had the surgery, after years of pain, which I always attributed to being overwieght and not stretching before/after playing sports, I ruptured my L4 and had a herniation in L5. PAIN! But, I was up and walking the next day, and could have gone to work, in a limited role, in about 2 weeks.

Hope everything works with the therapy, and you dont have to get the operation!

Sending good vibes your way!

I've had that before and I know how painful it is. I think I slept wrong one night and when I woke up, oh boy. It was pain to get in and out of my jeep and your right about laying or sitting down. It lasted a few months then went away.

I didn't really do anything except walk and stretch it out. Haven't had it in a couple of years.

BUT I'll prescribe you a HOT oil massage :D

You're in my thoughts, Alan. :ghug: I've been dealing with disc herniation and resulting sciatica for 10 years. Unfortunately, my sciatic nerve is permanently damaged, and I have permanent numbness in my left leg as a result. Sounds like your doc knows what he's doing (mine didn't), so all should be well if you follow his instructions. Good luck! :rose:

Whoa. That's pretty bad. Hopefully, this therapy will do the trick and you won't have to resort to something more drastic to take care of the situation.

My thoughts are with you, Alan. That's an awful thing to have to endure, I pray that your ordeal will be brief. :(

Had L4 scraped outta my back too. Most of the men in our family have had the operation before they were 30. Missus Bogie says it's because we have no backbone.

I really hope you get to heal with therapy Pagan. Surgery is okay of itself but the amount of time they make you sit idle beforehand can be soul destroying.

Best of luck to you m8.

I know what you're going through sweetie. I've been dealing with for close to 3 years now. You get used to it after a while. I've never had the shots, just rely on pain killers and muscle relaxers when I need them.

I'll be sending you tons of healing energies. :ghug: Hope you feel bettter soon. :rose:

Thanx for the kind words everyone....

It's too bad I didn't see a doc who knew what the f*ck he was talking about BEFORE I went on vacation! And stupidly, I think I did some major damage at the gig we did last week....I jacked myself up on Alleve and did the show the way I normally do....and you know I don't just stand there when we play live. ;)

I best listen to what the therapist tells me. ;)

There is a very good chance the therapy will work. I have known a few people with a similar herniation, same place, and the therapy has worked in all but one case (he was a LOT older than you and smoked heavily, so didn't heal). You seem to be otherwise quite healthy so that will work greatly in your favor.

Acupuncture is a good way to go, too. Good luck, hon :rose: You must get better for all of your fans--especially your Kimmy! :)

hopefully the therapy will have you back to your old self in no time. There's a pair of red tights with your name all over it

In all seriousness, I hope the therapy does the trick. I do know people who have had crotizone shots(not in the spine though) and they couldn't believe how much it helped immediately after shot :)

Allan, I will be sure to keep you in my prayers.
I have been going through problems because of disk damage at T6 from a car accident in October. The physical therapy is a big help! (and the spinal injections help too ;) ).

Man, I'm so sorry to hear about this Bassbro - It's not the best news to start my weekend off with :(
I knew your leg's been giving you strife, but I didn't think it was this serious, it sounds incredibly painful, I'm very sorry to hear about all this.

I'm sending you some positive bassvibes across the ocean to my fellow bassdude and pray that your difficulties will soon pass.

Good luck! I hate to hear you've been in so much pain. I had acupuncture and it kicked butt. I suppose it just depends....

Another bit of advice that came in handy was to make sure when you are driving, the back of your seat is as straight as you can tolerate it. This helps the muscles around the area keep in propper alignment, and help pull things back into the right place. Try not to slouch, or slump in a chair. And, sleep with a pillow between your knees, again, it helps keep everything in line.

THe one excercise that I found most helpfull is to get on all fours, like you are crawling (STOP RIGHT THERE CAL!) And, reach with your left hand straight out in front of you, while straightening your right leg our behind you (try to get a flat, horizontal line, from your hand, down your back, and through your leg) and hold like that for 20 seconds. Alternate hands/feet and increase by about 10 seconds each time, until you are up to a minute. Then, work your way back down to 20 seconds. Do that in the morning and evening, and it helps TREMENDOUSLY! It looks odd, and feels uncomfortable, but after a while, you get used to it, and it helps the same muscles I talked about before, strengthening them and lengthening them.

Hey Pagan,

I can sympathize cause I have gonna throught the same thing ... after years as playing football (high school and college) as a tackle and sometimes 'monster man' (not an easy feat when your'e 5'6" and 240lbs ... more fat then muscle  ) ... I digress ... any way I ruined my back seriuosly bad. And like Bogie, I was too chicken s&*t to have the operation. I opted for the therapy instead (and yes a good therapist makes all the difference) ... 15 years later, I won't say I have my youth back, but I have it in check ... some good days, some bad days ... as Jasper said in his advice, do the excercises properly and you'll be cool. :yesnod:

Thoughts, prayer and some "mal occhio" to keep the bad things away !

Mike

The pillow idea really helps. I use a big body pillow.

My mom has problems with hers too and tried the injections. She say's they work but you must rest afterwards. She is not big on the pain meds so they gave her a pain patch and she swears by them. Lydocaine *sp* seeps into your skin and numbs you so that you are able to function without being doped up. They provide continuous medication. It say's to only wear them for like 6 hours but that is only because the sticky stuff wears off. You can still wear them longer but you will have to tape it onto your body. You may want to ask about them. They are very $$$$ though, around 175.00 bucks for a box but they have worked wonders on her.

Sorry to hear about your pain, hope you get well soon!
