Does anyone REMEMBER a mid-80's new wavish song containing lyrics that are similar to "I have a telegram in my hand" or "I found a telegram in the sand"? It seems to me that there was a "God Bless America" refrain also, although it was so long ago, I can't really remember clearly....

That sounds like "Telegraph" by OMD from their 1983 album "Dazzle Ships."
