I remember back in the day seeing an Mtv - video for some band that had a song called "living in a video" or something close to that, it sota sounded like a-ha's "take on me", but im sure it is a differend song.
In the video there was this chick in a coffee shop reading a newspaper, and she gets sucked into the newspaper and is dancing with some cartoon guy --- it was a long time ago... id apprecaiate any 80's guru's that can help, if you know anything please email me at

It is A-Ha's Take On Me; that's the only 80s video with that concept that I have seen.

That sounds like a dead ringer for "Take on Me" to me. I can't remember any other videos that were anything like that...

Okay... but I'm pretty sure that the only "living in a video" that I have seen is A-Ha's Take On Me... maybe you have the wrong video or something

all righty then Steve 77 - the song you are humming is called 'Living ON Video'(nearly got the title right dude!) by a group called 'Trans-X' however, the clip is definately 'Take On Me' by Aha - I have it on video and you description matches it perfectly - I think it's a case of confusing the Tran-X song with with the Aha video - you did say it was a 'long time ago' well your memory can alter things easily over time believe me.
See if you can get your hands on the 'Living On Video' MP3 by Trans-X - I think you'll find it's the one http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Great hummin' dude! I'm proud of you! ha ha!

The video is Take On Me--and was performed by Norway's A-Ha.

I believe the woman in that video was reading a comic book, not a newspaper.

Living on Video was performed by Trans-X

It RULES!

It wasn't released until 1985 though, and although it was a good song you got the impression that it was about 5 years out of date.

All this electronic robot-bop took place around 1979-81, so Trans-X kinda missed the boat.

Another song I thought 'missed the boat' was 'Clouds across the Moon' by the Rah Band. That definately belonged in the late 70's, but came out in 1985 also!

Just found this...Trans-X (http://www.trans-x.net/) .

Seems like they are back on track. I´m just a bit confused...weren´t they originally coming from Canada?

And...I never made the mental link to transsexuality...only thought that 'Living On Video' was a cool track. :D

 STEVE! It is one of my favorite hits of the 80's. I do agree on Trans-X, but that was the sound of a lot of Italo Disco at that time. I am not sure why Trans-X is categorized as Italo Disco, cause I think they were Canadian. Wave? Somebody?

Hmm...'Living On Video' was not truly been recognized as 'Italo Disco' until it appeared on several Italo Disco-compilations - heaven knows why. It doesn´t even feature that special feeling of Italo Disco IMHO. Trans-X weren´t even featured on a 'typical' Italo Disco-label, they were distributed here by Polydor Germany. But even the 'West End Girls' (Pet Shop Boys) were featured on some Italo Disco compilations...

Italo Disco artists doesn´t had to be necessarily Italians...some artists who had subscribed to this style of pop music came also from other countries, like Ivan (Spain), Mike Mareen (Germany), and even Koto was for a short time a Dutch/Belgium collaboration until the original (Italian) performer returned again (the Dutch/Belgium collaboration was also known as Laser Dance).

West End Girls makes more sense though since Pet Shop Boys released a few singles on ZYX Records, who released a lot of Italo Disco.

I know that they didn't necessarily had to be Italians, but the style was very much based on the Southern European summer, beach and fun mentality. That's why Canada sounds a little odd.
