I need some informations from some aha or Alphaville fans, I check Allmusic.com to look if all Alphaville albums were as good as their first one, Forever Young...and boom they only give **1/2 for this great synth pop album...I need info from real fans, what other album from this band do you think I should buy next?

And I need the same kind of informations for A-ha, I love the first album, Hunting high and low, are all other albums are this good? Please give me some info.

I have the debut album too as well as a singles "collection," which has some decent re-mixes (strangely enough, I don't like the extended re-mix of "Forever Young" since the tempo is way too fast for this kind of song). They've been releasing albums consistently and sporadically. I wouldn't recommend 1998's Salvation. There's a couple of decent tunes in it, but most of it sounds like filler material.

Alphaville:

Forever Young - one of the best albums of the 80s: *****
Afternoons in Utopia - very good: ****
Breathtaking Blue - good (the song Romeos is excellent): ***

I haven't heard other albums, but singles from them have been fairly good

a-ha:

Hunting High and Low - Excellent, I wore out this cassette in th 80s: *****
Scoundrel Days - Different but still excellent: *****
Stay on These Roads - Sentimental favorite, but musically a step backwards. Still very good: ****
East of the Sun, West of the Moon - I haven't heard this entire album but the singles were reaaly good (Crying in the Rain, Early Morning, I Call Your Name)
Memorial Beach - Move To Memphis is excellent. The rest of the album isn't very good: **

I haven't heard the other albums.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info folks, yesterday I got myself Scoundrel Days and I liked it a lot, maybe 2 or 3 songs that I don't like very much but overall it has that old a-ha magic. For Alphaville, I think that I will get Afternoon in Utopia very soon. Thanks again!

Go buy Lifelines, 2002 cd, don't be frosted in the past with the only song most of the people know, they do a lot better in my opinion! Go check my review in the section of the same name! :thumb:

Definitely get A-Ha's singles collection, Headlines And Deadlines. That and also Lifelines you have to have in your A-Ha collection :)

Get all the a-ha stuff...you won't feel sorry for it (well, okay, Memorial Beach needs a certain time but it will find the way into your ears ;)).
To add the missing albums to the list...get also "Major Earth Minor Sky" (2000) and "How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head" (Live, 2003) - if you can get your hands on it, buy the Limited Edition which contains a bonus CD with additional live tracks and a video tour book.

Alphaville...if you have enough money, you can also get the multiple CD-sets which were released in the recent years. Of course, it depends on the P.O.V., but I think that these are mainly collector items for the devoted fan since the music is rather average.

a lot of great titles no doubt! The soundrack of 007: Living Daylights, maybe too! ;)

There seems to have lots of A-ha fans on this board, this is really great because I don't know anybody who likes this band besides this board. So thanks again for all the informations.

Someone asked for a-ha fans? ;) Ah i see, of course Greenway was already here. :)

If you like Hunting High and Low and Scoundrel days (I am curious what songs you do not like that much on this album), you are a little like me and definatley like the older style better and you might be dissapointed about some of their albums that came later on. I thinf Stay on this Roads will have a few songs you like, such as Touchy, That blood that moves the body or You are the one. Maybe you can listen into some songs on their latest album as well, i think it's pretty good. All the others are more for the hardcore a-ha fans. :)

Now for Alphaville (saw them in concert a year ago, gosh, Marian looks so different!). Don't expect to find any more albums like Forever Young, you will be dissapointed. Right, Afternoons in Utopia has some nice tracks as well, but it'S not like Forever Young where you just have to love every song! Apart from thei first album my favourite Alphaville songs are Romeos, Jerusalem, Dance with me and Afternoons in Utopia.

You're on the right board to discover new fans! :thumb: I only discovered them about 2 or 3 years ago! Maybe I heard their big big hits before like Take on me and 007 theme but they are a band to have an eye on it! Very innovative in my opinion! :bouncy:

Thanks again for all the informations, you guys really rocks. Someone asked me on this thread what songs I didnt like much on the Scoundrel Days album, here it is:October,Manhattan Skyline and The Swing of things. These are not horrible songs, it's just that I don't like them very much. Overall, it is a pretty good album. Not a classic but very entertaining.

How can you not like Manhattan Skyline?? Ok, just teasing, tastes are different. Somehow I knew October would be one of the songs. Well maybe you just have to listen to the album a few more times then you might like them more. :) Thanks for the answer anyway, I am such a curious person ;)
