This is one of those "I heard it on department store Muzak.." questions. This dance club song was from the period 1981-83 (best guess). Lively and more pop sounding than techno, I can only remember some of the lyrics talking about a "band of gold". Sort of like the " All that's left is a band of gold" line from the Freda Payne song of the same name. I'm sorry to be so vague!

The only thing that pops into my empty head is "Band of Gold" by Belinda Carlisle which came out in 1986. Definitely pop sounding, but not quite in the time frame you mentioned.

Yeah. 1986 would be too late. Definitely pre-1983. By the way, I searched a couple of databases on the net and I cannot find that track on any Belinda Carlisle album (?), Do you happen to know the album name?

I think I've found my answer! I need to check napster for a file but I think Sylvester may have done this version.

Nope. It wasn't Sylvester. He simply remade the Freda Payne song. I'm pretty sure now that Band of Gold was NOT the title. It was in the lyrics though.

Have any of you ever hung out at DJ's Disco in Lake George? I worked there in 1982 and '83. This band of gold phrase (lyric) that is absolutely killing me was from a song that DJ's dj spun constantly. I don't think I'll get into doing "Da Da Da dumm"s here to try imparting the beat to you. I'll fail miserably.

First - That Belinda song was on her first solo album called, 'Belinda.'

I have another suggestion for the song. It's been about 10-12 years since I've heard it and I can't remember the beat, but you might want to check out "Poor Boy" by Split Enz. The lyrics go something like:

The radio band of gold
Gonna listen til I grow old

Hope this helps.

Alright, here is another wild stab in the dark. This song comes from 1970 and was a dance hit, maybe it was remixed and re-released in the 80's.

"Band of Gold" by Freda Payne.

Like I said, this is just a wild stab at it.

Duhhh!http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00blush.gif I should re-read these postings in more often. You mentioned Freda Payne in your initial posting, so I guess that ain't it...Sorry.
