CBS Apologizes for Jackson's Exposure



NEW YORK - CBS apologized on Sunday for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake tore off part of Janet Jackson's top, exposing her breast.

"CBS deeply regrets the incident," spokeswoman LeslieAnne Wade said after the network received several calls about the show.

The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.

The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.

Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.

"I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said in a statement. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."

Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."

The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.

"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.

"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

MTV issued a contrite statement, saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

Right after half-time got done, a guy dressed as a ref, ran out onto the field, stripped naked, and started dancing. And then the camera moved and the players were shown just stunned, LOL. The guys who were talking about the game started talking about it for a few secs and then went onto the game. It was really short and sweet, but made me lmao!!!

I didn't see the naked guy, but I did see the exposure of Janet Jackson. I think it was an accident. I think Justin got a bit into his act and went overboard. The only good thing about that half time show surprisingly was Kid Rock (and I'm not a Kid Rock fan). He didn't lip sync like the others.

I did like the pregame tribute to the Space Shuttle Columbia and Beonce's wonderful rendition of the National Anthem. I know her vocals were taped, but it was beautiful, but I'm a Beonce fan so I'm kinda biased. :)

It looked to me like the Janet Jackson thing was staged...It appeared that she was wearing something to cover her nipple. All good fun. I did not see the part about about the guy. I thought CBS did not do a very good job of covering the game and the only thing I liked about the pregame was the National Anthem.

Big deal... so a breast popped out :p It's not gonna kill anyone to see a quick flash (they did cut away pretty fast). Though it wouldn't bother me in the least if they drop MTV from halftime production :p

CBS shouldn't be worried about any underage boys seeing Janet's breast, they were all at her brothers place

I guess the FCC's getting involved. They're going to "investigate" what went on. Don't they have more important things to do than "investigate" something stupid and piddly like this.
