Over the last 20 years, the public has seen Cyndi Lauper transform from a wacky wrestling-obsessed good-time gal to a refined standards singer. But through all of the image shifts in her career, a few things have remained constant for Lauper — namely her killer voice and honest, heartfelt approach. Few ‘80s singers still have the clout to play frou-frou theatres, but Lauper has enough class to be booked into one of Canada’s most prestigious live rooms, Toronto’s Massey Hall.
Lauper has three shows coming up in Canada: March 6 at Massey Hall, March 7 at the Congress Centre in Ottawa and March 8 at Hamilton Place in Hamilton. Tickets to the Toronto and Ottawa shows will cost $55.50 and $45.50 and the Hamilton tix will go for $54.50 and $45.50. Tickets for all three shows go on sale this Friday (January 30) at noon through all Ticketmaster outlets.
While Lauper is likely to revisit some of her past hits from the ‘80s, the shows will probably focus on her most recent release, At Last. With At Last, Lauper follows in the footsteps of artists like Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams by recording an album of pop standards. Lauper has said that she was inspired to record songs that had struck a chord with her in her childhood. Selections on the album include "Unchained Melody," "La Vie En Rose," "You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me" and the title track, which was originally popularized by the great Etta James.
Here’s a run-down of Cyndi Lauper’s upcoming Canadian dates:
March 6 Toronto, ON @ Massey Hall
March 7 Ottawa, ON @ Congress Centre
March 8 Hamilton, ON @ Hamilton Place
