I got up this afternoon, and was going to get ready for work tonite, let the dogs out, and went to the bathroom to shave my head. Remembered I had to make sure my clothes were dry, so I went downstairs. Messed around for a few minutes, then realised the dogs werent making any noise, as they usually do. So, I go and look out the door, and they are not in the yard. No big deal, usually when they get out, they go down to the dead end part of our street, since there are like 7 or 8 dogs that live down there, they stop by and play, and I usually just drive up, open the car door, and they hop in. Well, I drive down the road and cant see them. So, I go back, and drive up the other end of the road. Nothing. So, I go around the corner to where there is a little side road, and look, and cannot see them. So, I call my girlfriend, and let her know, and she says she will be home in a few minutes. So, I figured they were in the woods behind the house, messing around, and would come back when they got tired or bored. About 5 minutes later, my phone rings and my girlfriend tells me that somebody called her, and said that they have our smaller dog, but the bigger one got hit by a car, and ran into the woods behind our housing developement. I drive up to where they are and the girl says Donnie ran into the woods, and was hurt pretty badly, that the guy hit him doing at least 45 and didnt even stop. So, I take off into the woods, calling his name. I walk about 1/2 mile into the woods, down a big huge muddy hill, and cant find him, I walk all through the wooded area, into a clearing, all over, and no sight of him.

I make my way back up,and the girl had put my little dog in my car, and said that my girlfriend had called her on her cell and said she would go to the house, and go up and down the street. By this time, the guy who had hit him comes back and is asking if I found the dog (I DONT HAVE THE DOG WITH ME, DO I JACKASS?) His truck has a busted headlight and fog light, so I am worried about the dog being seriously injurred.

I meet my GF back at the house and we spend two hours in the woods, in the dark, climing up and down hills, through streams, in the water, in mud, etc, but still cannot find the dog.

Get back to the house, and Jill starts to call the local animal hospital, the only 24 hour one in the area and asks if anybody brought in a dog, and described it. Nobody had. Meanwhile I am making posters for the local stores, with his photo and our number.

While I am doing this, my other dog is really trying to get out the door to the basement, and we, of course, are too busy. Then, I hear something and open the door, and there is our other dog Donnie, sitting at the bottom of the steps. He is banged up pretty bad. I have to carry him up the stairs (all 65 pounds of him) and we are looking and he is scraped up really bad, and limping.

Take him to the vet, and after Xrays, and exams, find nothing serious, just the abbrasions.
So, He is now at home, and I am exhausted. Had to call into work, since I was so frazzled looking for my dog. Now I am just all tired, like when you had some stress and it gets relieved and once you have a chance to relax, you are all tired.

SOrry about the long story!

I'm really glad this story had a happy ending! Being a dog lover and all.

Sorry to hear all the crap you had to go through, but really glad the dog (kid) ;) is okay.

I know what it is like to care for a dog you have grown to love. Harley has never been hit or injured... But I know that if it were to ever happen like it did your dog I know it would be one hell of a day. I am glad he will be ok. I am sure your dog is thankful to having an owner that cares for him as much as you do..

PROPS to ya!!!

As I was reading this I was thinking..please don't find the dog seriously injured. What a relief to read that he is going to be ok. :)

This is why my mom keeps our dog on a chain or walks her on a leash. When I was younger I watced our dog get it's leg ripped off because it was running around lose.

Oh, poor puppy! I'm glad he's okay, and I think a couple of follow up visits to the vet would be a good idea--sometimes, when an animal is very stressed like that, they get dehydrated and don't realize it, and get sick because of it. Just make sure, in a few days, that his water consumption and output are okay (too much/too little either way can mean further problems)

Glad everything worked out for ya buddy, and that the pooch is okay! You sound frazzled as all hell....hope you calmed down by now....

Maybe you should look into an invisible fence or something to keep them from straying.

Damn Ron... that would friggin stress me out Buddy! I'm glad Donnie is going to be ok. ;)
That story brings back memories with a past Chocolate Lab I used to have. He was show dog potential and my parents never had him fixed because they wanted him to breed... the downside to that is male dog studs roam to where ever their nose takes them if they get loose. We'd get calls from 3 towns away from us saying that they found our dog... and one time, we never got a call.... he got away from my grandfather on a walk.... we didn't get any calls... we called every where, checked every animal hospital, posted flyers.... nothing... so he had to be stolen. :(

Goodness, I'm glad Donnie is going to be okay. I was worried until I got to the end of your story. I have dogs of my own, so I know how I would feel in your place.

Aww Jasper I'm so happy to hear you dog is ok. I have two dogs myself, and I know if anything was to happen like that to them I would be a basket case. Please give your dog a hug for me.

Thank you everybody for the kind words. We are all calmed down now. Donnie has a little limp, but is getting along fine. and after a few weeks the fur should grow back where they trimmed around his abbrasions.

It was just such a stressfull night!

I am so happy to hear this story ended with a happy ending. I was really worried as I was reading it that it wouldn't end good. I know it is scary when you can't find a pet.

No, Donnie isnt limping, as a matter of fact, he climbed the fence again yesterday and went on another adventure. It wouldnt have been so bad, if it wasnt like 15 degrees and snowing!

Oh, and the summer of 87 picture, Thats my METAL FACE!
