I got up this afternoon, and was going to get ready for work tonite, let the dogs out, and went to the bathroom to shave my head. Remembered I had to make sure my clothes were dry, so I went downstairs. Messed around for a few minutes, then realised the dogs werent making any noise, as they usually do. So, I go and look out the door, and they are not in the yard. No big deal, usually when they get out, they go down to the dead end part of our street, since there are like 7 or 8 dogs that live down there, they stop by and play, and I usually just drive up, open the car door, and they hop in. Well, I drive down the road and cant see them. So, I go back, and drive up the other end of the road. Nothing. So, I go around the corner to where there is a little side road, and look, and cannot see them. So, I call my girlfriend, and let her know, and she says she will be home in a few minutes. So, I figured they were in the woods behind the house, messing around, and would come back when they got tired or bored. About 5 minutes later, my phone rings and my girlfriend tells me that somebody called her, and said that they have our smaller dog, but the bigger one got hit by a car, and ran into the woods behind our housing developement. I drive up to where they are and the girl says Donnie ran into the woods, and was hurt pretty badly, that the guy hit him doing at least 45 and didnt even stop. So, I take off into the woods, calling his name. I walk about 1/2 mile into the woods, down a big huge muddy hill, and cant find him, I walk all through the wooded area, into a clearing, all over, and no sight of him.
I make my way back up,and the girl had put my little dog in my car, and said that my girlfriend had called her on her cell and said she would go to the house, and go up and down the street. By this time, the guy who had hit him comes back and is asking if I found the dog (I DONT HAVE THE DOG WITH ME, DO I JACKASS?) His truck has a busted headlight and fog light, so I am worried about the dog being seriously injurred.
I meet my GF back at the house and we spend two hours in the woods, in the dark, climing up and down hills, through streams, in the water, in mud, etc, but still cannot find the dog.
Get back to the house, and Jill starts to call the local animal hospital, the only 24 hour one in the area and asks if anybody brought in a dog, and described it. Nobody had. Meanwhile I am making posters for the local stores, with his photo and our number.
While I am doing this, my other dog is really trying to get out the door to the basement, and we, of course, are too busy. Then, I hear something and open the door, and there is our other dog Donnie, sitting at the bottom of the steps. He is banged up pretty bad. I have to carry him up the stairs (all 65 pounds of him) and we are looking and he is scraped up really bad, and limping.
Take him to the vet, and after Xrays, and exams, find nothing serious, just the abbrasions.
So, He is now at home, and I am exhausted. Had to call into work, since I was so frazzled looking for my dog. Now I am just all tired, like when you had some stress and it gets relieved and once you have a chance to relax, you are all tired.
SOrry about the long story!
