Last Saturday night (October 20th), I heard Oingo Boingo's Weird Science. I think that song was released in '85. (Yeah, I KNOW it's an '80s hit.)

Was Weird Science Oingo Boingo's ONLY hit?

They had "Just Another Day," which hit #85 in 86. "Weird Science" hit #45.

They also had "Dead Mans Party," but it didn't chart.

I don't remember the name of this Oingo Boingo song but it came out in the mid '80s. The lyrics went something like..Nothing bad ever happens to me....
I don't remember the rest, but I saw the video on MTV a lot.

That was the title. "Nothing bad ever happens to me"

Other songs MTV had videos for were:
"Little Girls"
"Out Of Control"
"Private Life"
"Stay"

And the other 3 songs mentioned. :)

For anyone that wanted to know how Oingo Boingo faired Down Under.

"Stay" was a reasonable hit (Top 20 from memory) and usually gets played on those countdowns of "long lost classics".It certainly got a fair bit of airplay in its time

Also "Weird Science" may have scratched the lower reaches of our charts.

Oingo Boingo is another one of those bands that, despite the chart numbers, shouldn't really be qualified as a "One Hit Wonder." While they enjoyed success worldwide, they were absolutely HUGE on the West Coast. They sold out the Universal Amphitheatre on more than one occasion. Even though "Weird Science" charted the highest, "Dead Man's Party" has been their most enduring song. Its use in movies, MTV play, etc has made it their biggest "hit." But other posters on this board are right - they had a number of singles played on the radio, MTV, etc.

A true "one hit wonder" is a band that had one big hit, then went away. They may have had another single scrape the bottom of the charts, but those songs probably only received airplay on a handful of radio stations. (Usually disappearing after 3 or 4 weeks). Perfect examples (US Charts only):

When In Rome - "The Promise"
Hipsway - "The Honeythief"
After The Fire - "Der Kommissar"

(They may have had some varying degrees of success outside of the US).

They also did "Wild Sex (In The Working Class)". That was from the movie 16 Candles

Oingo Boingo also did "Who do you want to be today?" from Bachelor Party. I actually always thought that was their biggest hit. Most definately not a one hit wonder band. They were one of my favorites all thru high school. I went to their concert here in Calif. in 1986 and it was one of the best. GREAT band!!! :)

My personal favorite was "Only a Lad".

This won't be popular but Oingo Boingo isn't even a one hit wonder. Technically you have to have one top 40 song and they had zero. Granted they were big underground but that doesn't mean they had a "Hit" in the technical meaning of the word.

I actually bought the Bachelor Party Soundtrack from EBAY - and it's rather good!

The only disappointment was the song that you are referring to was not on the soundtrack! The only Oingo Boing songs on the Soundtrack were 'Bachelor Party' and 'Something Isn't Right'.

Bummer.

Are you sure Weird Science didn't hit the top 40 chart? I read that it was their only hit that did. The song Stacy is thinking of is Nothing Bad Ever Happens and it is a good one. :)

Oingo Boingo Kicks Ass!! From 1992-1995 I used to get pit tickets and back stage passes every year at Irvine Meadows. I consider Johnny Vatos a good friend. His concerts were sooo cool. The band did good versions of "I am the Walrus" and "Helter Skelter" by the Beatles. But these versions take it to the next dimension. It was very cool when you were 17 and getting drunk back stage with the band members. My brother was at the other corner smoking pot.
