Did you know that Queen's lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury, was bisexual? He managed to keep this a secret for most of his career, although some people consider "We Are The Champions" a gay anthem.

Guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor were in a group called Smile. When their lead singer quit, they got together with Mercury, who was formerly in a band called Wreckage. A few months later, bassist John Deacon joined the band.

All four band members are college graduates.

'The Game' was the Queen's first #1 album in America, and boasted the hits "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Another One Bites The Dust".

Freddie Mercury died in 1992 after a long battle with AIDS.

What do you know about Queen?

I just read in the newspaper a few days ago that Eric McCormack of the comedy show 'Will & Grace' has been signed or is in talks with producers to play the role of Freddy Mercury in a life story about him.

I knew that when 'Wayne's World' came out, the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" became immensely popular, and the movie brought both the song and Queen alot of popularity from younger generations.

Some people believe that the song "Another one Bites the Dust" has backmasking on it and when played in reverse says "Start to smoke Marijuana"

Actually, Recker, this is true. What it really says is "It's fun to smoke marijuana." My husband (he was like 17 at the time) flipped his Queen cassette to play backwards to see if it was true and then he played it for all of us. ;) The things a guy'll try to impress his buddies....

This Queen FAQ (http://www.geocities.com/ohadg102/qms.txt) (Section II, Part I) says it's just coincidence.

But to hear it yourself, here's a wacky page of backwards sound clips, and Queen's is about 2/3rds of the way down:

Yes, I think it is a coincedence too. I heard it years ago and if you dissect the sounds and say them to yourself backwards, you do indeed get that.

Queen was formed in 1971.

In the summer of 1976, they performed a free concert at London's Hyde Park that broke attendance records.

After Freddie Mercury's passing, the remaining members of Queen held a memorial concert at Wembley Stadium, which was broadcast to an international audience of more than one billion. Featuring such guest artists as David Bowie, Elton John, Annie Lennox, Def Leppard and Guns N' Roses, the concert raised millions for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which was established for AIDS awareness.
