View Full Version : Mall bangs???
Jenweaver 2-15-01, 03:39 PM Hey everyone, I'm a youngster (I'm 19) and unfortunatly I missed out on alot of the fun that was the 80s! That doesn't mean that I'm not a big fan of the music and culture, the 80s seem to be the most "FUN" decade on recent record.
One thing that I do find fascinating tho is 80s hair, and the people that wore it. I was going through my cousin's old year book (she graduated high school in 1989) and was absolutely floored by the hairstyles that alot of the girls (and guys) wore! My cousin called it "mall hair" or "mall bangs" and the hair was so high that alot of girls couldn't fit all their hair in their school pics!
Does any one here remember or have "mall hair". I was just stunned at the height of some bangs! How much hairspray did it take to get such results! My cousin said she went through a can a week! WOW! Who else will admit to this hairstyle. Was it really considered "cool"?
Best,
Jen
Jen,
Hey! I still find ladies with SLIGHTLY big hair attractive. I cant stand the way ladies dont take any time to actually do thier hair these days. It showed they cared how they looked. At least that's the way I see it. When I had long hair, it was slightly "larger" than the average guy's, but then again, I was a big Cinderella and Motley Crue fan, so it went with the teritory.
Welcome to the club, have fun!

ROCK AND ROLL!!!
SAL IS GOD !!!
Later!! Tina
Hey everyone,
This post brings back a lot of memories. At one point I would use my moms big, hair rollers that you would heat up. That made for some big hair. Later on, in my more rebellious stage, I would just dry my hair upside down, using lots of mousse and hairspray. However it looked when I was done, was how I wore it. I loved it. Such carefree times. You could do that kind of thing then. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//cool.gif
Tinajo,
I LOVe the way you wear your hair! That is the type I like, a little bigger actually isnt that bad either!
I also wish girls would go with the long, curly hair again as well. That was something else I used to really love. Remember Jamie Gertz in LOST BOYS? I absolutely loved her hair. The girl I daetd through most of High School had hair just like that. I loved it.
Thanks to all the girls who still "DO" thier "do".

Sal Collaziano 2-16-01, 06:16 PM Hi Jenweaver! And welcome to 80sxchange.com! Well, yes it was definitely considered cool in the 80s. I would still consider it cool now! Well, to a point. It doesn't have to be a foot high! But a little up there is how I like it. I used to blowdry my hair upside down too. That would make it a bit puffy instead of just plain old flat. Then I'd spray it a little so it would stay that way. I'm a guy so I didn't have BIG hair - but if mine ever grows long again - I just might do it. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif Again, welcome aboard!

morningmyst 2-17-01, 03:47 AM I'm not sure if I cared to much for the high bangs. Where I went to school, the girls had the rest of their hair fairly flat, and these bangs that stood straight up. If you're going to go big......GO BIG!!! The whole thing. IMHO the tall bangs just looked silly.

I agree with Dawn, just the bangs straight up looked a little silly. There was a girl who used to come see my band back in the 80s who had that 'do. We called her "Rhino". I dig the big hair on women also, but the 70's 'dos were cool too. My wife does the part on one side, half puffy look. Gotta find a good pic...I'm bad at describing it.

I miss the way girls wore their hair back in the 80s
ReagansRenegade 2-18-01, 11:19 PM Hi 87 Shark! Pagan if you have that photo let me know if I should put it here: http://www.geocities.com/reagansrenegade/page6.html
87 Shark 2-19-01, 11:10 PM Hi RR.
I miss Reagan almost as much as the 80s!
ReagansRenegade 2-20-01, 10:40 AM Yeah he might have been a bully and a communist puppet but no real child of the 80s would vote for Carter or Clinton over Reagan. Imo...which holds a lot of weight! Notice the doctorate.
Hey all.
Last night I thought of another "do" I had. Remember Til Tuesday? I think it was the keyboardist who had red, very curly hair. I loved that hair, and went to my hairdresser with a picture of it, and said "This is what I want." (My hair is naturally pin straight.) That was one of my cooler do's. Kids at my uptight school couldnt handle me and my hair http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//GOOFY.gif I'm sure they got over it.
