Hiya,

Looking for any 80's song suggestions for my local cincy cover band to play out. Would like popular ones back then that recieved some airplay, but aren't already played by everybody (e.g, jessie's girl, 867-jenny, etc.) All and any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. Some of the semi-popular ones we're doing now: Just like heaven- The Cure; Don't you forget about me- Simple minds. Oh, yes, what Duran Duran song should we do? BTW, I'm only 20 so I was in utero when all this stuff was going on!! Thanks again!

Hihttp://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wavey.gif John, and Welcome to the 80sxchange boards. I'm sure you're going to get a lot of 80's song ideas here.
I think I'll offer up "Is This Love" and "Burning Heart" by the 80's band SURVIVOR.
Actually Survivor is one of those carryover bands from the late 70's.
They had lots of well known songs in both the 70's/80's that got radio play. "Burning Heart" was featured in the Silvester Stallone movie "Rocky |V". They also had a big hit with the theme song from the first "Rocky" movie, it's called "Eye Of The Tiger" which is being used now for the new ISUZU commercials that have the character Joe Isuzu getting back into shape for work after a forced retirement.

"Eye Of The Tiger" was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart for 7 weeks and at the time of its release, sold enough copies to be the largest selling single in CBS Records' history to date.

Umm...Then again they did do the song "The Moment Of Truth" from the movie "The Karate Kid" which was a good song too!

Good Luck with your song search!

For Duran Duran stuff...I'd go with 'Hungry Like the Wolf', 'The Reflex' and a side of 'Rio' http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

For Duran Duran, I would definitely go with "Wild Boys". That song just begs for people to get up and get excited... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//VIBRATOR.gif

Thanks all.

How would you guys think "Satisfied" by Richard Marx would go over?

Oh yeah, we do "Future's so bright (gotta wear shades)"

I play harmonica on that one.

Hey, John! Welcome to 80sxchange.com! Well, while you're mentioning Richard Marx. How about "Right Here Waiting For You". That's if I've got the title right. That was a big hit and received a LOT of radio play here in New York.

That is a good song, I guess I don't think of it as being as "big" as some others. I do GREATLY appreciate the midi offer though. Right now my band, Felix, is a 4 piece. We're trying not to sequence, which we currently don't do. I'm the lead singer, and I also play guitar, harmonica, keyboard (rarely) and the spoons (spoonman by soundgarden). I'm currently attempting to learn alto sax. My first thing to learn will be "You maybe right" by Billy Joel. Currently the guitarist plays the sax part (on guitar). What other songs do you guys think would be good that have sax in them (Nothin' too hard for me please!)? I was thinking "Hungry Eyes" from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack? I've never heard a band play that! That last sentence is what we (Felix) are looking for in crowd response. We've got cameras and want to start having pics of the fans on the web, as well as a "fan of the week" on the website (to be completed in about a week) Anyways, thanks again for the suggestions guys, keep 'em coming!

Ohh man! am I bad!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//redface.gif ....Welcome to the boards John, I guess I got caught up in the subject matter.

How about some Foreigner tunes?
Cold As Ice
Double Vision
Waiting For A Girl Like You
Feels Like The First Time
Urgent
Juke Box Hero

I'm getting carried away, and those should keep you busy http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif ....Their all great songs, and had a lot of radio play from '77to'82.
I know I'm cutting into the 70's music, but great music should be heard and experienced by all generations.
