Say what you want about the wildcard, but with one month remaining there are 7 Teams within 2 1/2 games of the wildcard. If it wasn't for the wildcard 5 of those (NL East and West Team) wouldn't be in playoff hunt . I think it's great for all the cities involved. I'd sort of like to see all the teams end with identical records (which won't happen) ,just to see the confusion it would bring with all the tie breakers.

I've always liked the wildcard. I do think it is wrong that they aren't allowed to play the team from their division in the LDS, but it's still makes for great playoffs. The short series can be very exciting. Plus, the wildcard will always be necessary while there are 3 divisions per league.
I agree Cal, this years pennant races are very exciting, they have a sort of playoff feel to them. Plus, the Cubbies are still in the hunt, and it's almost September! How can that not be a good thing?!
*mod note* - I moved this thread to "League Sports" , since it involves real-life sports. ;)

It was inevitable that baseball would water down their playoffs for extra $$ just like all the other team sports out there have done, but thumbs down on baseball's wild card from me. In exchange for some more regular season excitement, it only further reduces the chance that the true best team from each respective league will go to the World Series.
Allowing players to use Inspector-Gadget devices on the field might also be exciting, but is that automatically the same as good? Ditto the gimmicky solution to 'fix' the All-Star game this year.
