View Full Version : Oh for crying out loud......
Don't people take responsibility for their own stupidity or evil intentions anymore? :6ohboy:
Is Music To Blame? (http://www.montelshow.com/show/upcoming_detail.htm?index=0)
No. Was there anything else you needed to know?
It seems people will use any excuse to take the blame off themselves. "My Dad beat me..." "My Mom was needy..." "I was forced to eat vegetables..." "My next door neighbor's cousin's friend's brother was an alcoholic..."
Idiots. All of them.
That's just as bad as these parents suing MTV's "Jackass" for influencing their jack-ass kids to do stupid shit. Get a friggin' clue people....instead of teaching your kids that suing everyone and their mother is a solution, why don't you teach them not to do it in the first place..
BrandyBlue 8-12-03, 09:28 PM Okay, getting up on my soapbox:
First, nobody deserves to be murdered, and nobody should murder, and I am not talking about self defense here. That being said:
NEVER NEVER NEVER take a stranger into your car. ALWAYS assume the worst about them and let them find their own ride. That was stupid. Even though I feel awful that what happened, happened, I know that she set herself up for that. I am not saying that she deserved it, but I am saying that she, herself, set the stage for it.
If music "focks up" your head, then you have problems. You may be mentally unstable, you may be immature, you may have never learned right from wrong, you may not have a conscience--I don't know what your deal is. Whatever it is, it ain't music, my friends.
I came from a horrible childhood and I don't go around murdering people, so that is not an excuse.
Plain and simple--the dude was focked up, needed help, and somewhere along the way, he missed or refused the opportunity to get it and he committed murder and now he is shaking in his boots looking for any excuse not to spend his life as someone's jailhouse sex toy.
Tydestra 8-12-03, 10:48 PM I bet that someone would bring up Colombine.
I totally agree with what Val said. Why does everyone need to blame their own actions on something other than themselves? Stand up and take responsibility that you're just a freakin' psychopath and it's not music that has made you that way. Everyone has to face challenges in life, some worse than others, but in the end it is up to us how we respond to those factors as to what kind of person we become. Brandy is a perfect example. She went thru hell as a kid and instead of drowning in self pity, has turned her life into something worth while.
Roemello 8-12-03, 11:10 PM I've made this argument so many times about people taking responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming forms of media, I feel like a broken record... so I'll just roll my eyes at the foolery once again.... How anyone buys into "the music/tv/movie made me do it" is beyond me...
What ever happened to taking responsibility for your own actions, self control, thinking for yourself, and common sense?
Ditto what Val ad Jen said. :irked:
Livinthedream 8-13-03, 09:49 AM I don't know though. Sometimes I listen to Margaritaville and think, "hmm, a margarita does sound pretty good." All kidding aside though, why is music the only subject that is mainly brought up when people do idiotic things. There are a billion books in this world also, are they not the same as music, just with out the sound. Everything tells a story. Some bad, some good. Are we going to start following the example in Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" and start burning all our books. Let's face it, everyone in this world was born with the ability to make a decision and those decisions can be influenced by everything in our environment. So, unless we want to destroy life, we must accept what was handed to us.
Sorry Brandy, I think I borrowed your soapbox their:p You can have it back now:D
Jughead Jones 8-13-03, 10:21 AM Not when you can blame it on the media...

I'm with you Roem!
Brand1974 8-13-03, 01:15 PM Count me in on the  at this and move on.....
Such a shame the parents don't teach their kids about accountability, and responsibilty for their actions. It's really pathetic.
Opheliarose 8-13-03, 03:06 PM I don't want to sound like a broken record!! But Hello where are the parents in all this!! Stop having someone else raise your kids and start doing it yourself!! We have a whole Generation of Kids who do not know the meaning of respect and responsiablity for their actions!! Stop being your Childs best friend and start being their Parent!!
That means getting involved with their lives, what they are doing, who they are hanging out with!!!
First off, music, tv, what have you may be influencial, but let me ask this this...DID the actors, musicians, bands etc put a GUN TO THEIR HEAD and MAKE them do what they did? HARDLY! Thier actions are THIER responsibility..nuff said! I think I made my point on this in another thread quite awhile back similar to this one, so i wont get on my soap box this time..:)
