Probably my favorite movie as a kid . I loved the Bad News Bears, and even now when I watch it, it has some suprisingly strong adult theme's. Anyway I found a site that tell where they were a couple years ago

Hey Cal I was in Best Buy today and I noticed that some or all of the Bad News Bears are on dvd. I can't remember the price. Thought you might be interested after reading this. :)

this came out a year or two before i did little league, in so cal.... and for everyone, this was the celluloid enactment of their experiences. we all fell in love w/ tatum o neal, we all did the kelly leak motorcycle accelerator hand motion, we all tried to perfect the rudy stein bouncing pitch... and we all wore cups.

having watched it again recently, as a little league coach, w/ my own 12 year old, it really opened my eyes to several things....

- just what exactly kids perceive (or don't)... the majority of this movie is about adult-level themes, which i see now, but never even noticed as a kid.

- the generation gap. my son couldn't sit through 10 minutes of this... thought it was slow, boring, stupid. again, i found myself saying, "that's how movies were in the 70's".

- some things just don't change. we had an occurrence of a coach strangling a player. we almost had coaches strangling each other

fave line #1: a stretcher for his balls?

fave line #2 (from off camera, as the bears get trounced yet again): no dear, i'm staying til the bitter end

wow, great memories relived!

My 8 year old played Little League for the first time last Spring and thought he'd like these movies. Didn't remember that there was as much profanity in it as there was for 1976. Still inspirational for kids playing baseball.

One of the softball teams I played on years ago had a little red-haired guy on it. He was loud and had a filthy mouth and another one of the guys on the team stuck him with the nickname "Tanner". He was a bit younger than the rest of us and didn't understand the reference at first, but when he got it, he didn't like it. :hissy: He wound up quitting the team not long after he figured it out. I don't mind the idea of a nickname myself. Good or bad, at least someone is paying attention.

It's amazing to me watching not only the Bad news bears as an adult, but many many more things that I was allowed to watch in the 70's that had somewhat adult themes and I didn't even get it then. I guess thats why I'm a little lax when it comes to some things I watch and know my kids are in the room when I'm watching them. Maybe I shouldn't let my 5 yr. old watch CSI, though. ;)
