I saw Thin Lizzy this weekend. Featuring John Sykes (of Whitesnake and Blue Murder fame) and Tommy Aldridge (also of Whitesnake and Black Oak Arkansas). WHAT A SHOW! Sykes is a guitar GOD. I always thought he was extrordinary, but after seeing him live, I believe he was the best player I have ever seen. (yes, that includes EDDIE VH) I was hoping he wouldhave played a few BLUE MURDER and WHITESNAKE songs, but all they were playing was Thin Lizzy songs. I am not sure how long Sykes was actually IN thin lizzy, but he did play every song with a kind of passion that most bands of today totally lack. I took a lot of photos, and when I get them developed, I will post a few (well, Sal will since I am illiterate at things like that). But, if you want to see a GREAT live show, and hear some KICK ASS music, check out Thin Lizzy when they come near you!

What type of music is Thin Lizzy? I don't know much about them.. Blue Murder? Well, I do remember really liking one of their songs in around 1989 - but I never got into them totally.. I wasn't into that type of music back then. Whitesnake, sure I've liked them for a long time.. Is Thin Lizzy anything like these bands?

Sal, Two songs by Thin Lizzy you would know are "The Boys Are Back In Town" and "Jailbreak". Thier music is late 70's early to mid 80s Hard Rock.

Great Show!

I have heard that they are putting on hell of a show as a tribute to Phil Lynott! Everywhere I go, people are saying the same thing! I believe that John Sykes only actually recorded one album with Thin Lizzy but had a longtime friendship with Phil Lynott (a legend who does not get proper recognition!).
Tommy Aldridge also played with Ozzy on his first two solo albums (I think his first 4 but, I'm not positive).
Sal, if you like Whitesnake then you'll love both Thin Lizzy and Blue Murder. John Sykes was a bigger influence in Whitesnake than David Coverdale will admit. Not that I'm knockin Coverdale, but Sykes is a great guitarist and musican!

Sal... I am noticing that you have not heard of many 80's metal and hard rock bands... I am beginning to think that you were stuck in a room with the radio dial super-glued to the local pop station...

You don't know who Blue Murder or Thin Lizzy were?

Never heard any Yngwie... Dangerous Toys.... I think there was more....

Very disappointed, indeed http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00hmph.gif

Tinajo, It is our job to EDUCATE Sal. You guys are correct, Sykes influence on Whitesnake is what MADE them so piopular. His guitar sound is great, and his songwriting on that album is classic. WIthout him, you would have never had STILL OF THE NIGHT, you would have never had that big, bad ass guitar sound that made them billioins of dollars in teh 80s. If anybody doubts that, listen to the COME AND GET IT cd or SLIDE IT IN, then listen to the WHITESNAKE cd, then listen to the CD after WHITESNAKE that had Vai playing all the guitars. Now, granted, Vai didnt write the guitar parts, Vandenberg did, but couldnt play them, but listen to the songwriting and the overall "rock-ness" of each cd. Coverdales band went from blues rock, to HARD ROCK, to a more POP rock in the matter of 3 cds.

Then go buy BLUE MURDER and crank it up! what a great CD. I think I am going to pop it in right now!

"The Boys are Back in Town". Yeah, I remember that one. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif Oh, this is very true. I missed A LOT of 80s music because I was too busy listening the thrash/speed metal only! I was into very heavy music and didn't go any lighter than Metallica or Anthrax back in the late 80s. It's really cool hearing "Ratt" for the first time.. Hey, just try to imagine being ME for a momenet. I'm really SO lucky! I can't wait to hear Blue Murder. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif New Music! Ye-heah-eah!
