I thought I'd see if we can a thread going on dance music of the 80's. Hopefully, this discussion will be more about club songs than radio hits. So here is my top 10 club hits:

What's wierd is most of those songs you listed I don't know by name. If I heard them, I'd probably remember.. I just heard "You Spin Me Round" recently. Great song.. Din Da Da - cool! I like that one! I've known it a LONG time.. Hmm. That's about it.. I'll add some to this list shortly...

One night, just a few years ago, I heard Prince's Erotic City.

That version of the song I'd heard consisted of a frequent use of the F-word; for instance, "We can f--- 'til the break of dawn!"

But, very recently, I heard the radio-edited version of Erotic City.

Wow. I don't remember that song at all. I'm not sure it could be categorized as Freestyle, though.. Are you a Freestyle fan, JS Steele? There aren't many around here lately...

That is the only version of the song. If you have an edited version I'd want to see it. (Have it, that is.) Erotic city was the b-side to "Let's go crazy" It wasn't available on any album until the soundtrack to "Girl 6" came out, then it was on the 3 CD set Prince: The hits/the b-sides.

I'm a fan but the subject doesn't come up a lot. I have a different definition. I consider Prince R&B or funk. Nitzer Ebb, Ministry and Front 242 I thought were Industrial and Dead or Alive, Depeche Mode and New Order I thought were New Wave. Never heard of MCL or George Kranz but I'll keep my eye out for them. Once again, I thought freestyle was a kind of rap were you didn't write the words down you just came up with them on the fly.

Nope, that's not freestyle..neither is the list that us007 listed either..saw more New Wave in there.

Daffy, freestyle is rapping on the fly, but usually people attach the word 'rap' to that kinda freestyle so ya know what their talking about (ie 'rappin' freestyle, freestyle rappin', etc.).

The Freestyle that this forum is about is one of, if not the, best form of dance music around (that I've heard anyway). There's a huge explanation in another topic in this forum...

I first heard that song one night, several years ago. Yes, I have heard some freestyle, especially back in the '80s (I think).

Recently (one Saturday night), I was lucky enough to hear a few songs from 12 Inch Saturday Night--an all-'80s radio show that can be heard on a New Orleans' all-'80s station, 92.3 The Point (WCKW-FM), whose signal occasionally reaches Jackson.

That was a great song! They also did a slow jam called "Love you down" it was also good :)

Yes, I remember Ready For The World's Oh Sheila--as well as (Let Me) Love You Down.

Both songs were by Ready For The World.

Are they really Sal? I've been trying to dip back into Freestyle heavily again, just time REALLY isn't a luxury with the semester just starting.

I'd love to hear more from those mid-late 80's/early 90's groups/singers listed there if their making new stuff :D
