Hi Drjaywalk.. Well, what does music mean to me? Ahh, well, a lot. hehe Music seems to control my mood - depending on the kind of music I'm listening to. If I'm listening to dance music, I'm usually in a very positive and happy mood. If I'm listening to hard rock or rock ballads, I'm usually in a energetic and positive/happy mood. Heavy metal and beyond usually means I'm in an aggresive or maybe angry mood. These are all moods I like to have from time to time... Anyone else have any input?

I think music has a lot to do with our lives, as Sal mentioned it can control our moods. As for me it also brings back a lot of fond memories, some things I had forgotten from what was, at least to me, a much simpler time, back before a failed marriage, the federal building being bombed, the largest tornado in recorded history tearing up the town I grew up in, and a few dozen hard lessons about life. The school of hard knocks can be a rough place, and now that my life is back on track, this music from "the good old days" helps keep me upbeat to build new memories. As the song goes: "future's so bright I gotta wear shades."

Hi Murdock. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif Good to see ya... Yeah, you're right. Times not all that long ago were much easier. Besides having less responsibility, life wasn't so serious either. Now, everything is about business and money. It's all about who you impress. Nothing is really simple anymore - music from the 80s is usually very upbeat and fun. It does bring back good memories for me. Especially Freestyle.

Memories...different music types give me different rememberances. Freestyle reminds me of the girls I knew http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif Glam, rock, and pop remind me of being wild and having fun. Hip Hop reminds me of how fun my old neighborhood was growing up. New Wave takes me back to watching MTV before going to school http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif

There's also certain songs that I associate with certain people I've known. When I hear the song, I immediately remember the person...weird. Music's always been a huge part of my life...hell, I DJ'd for a little over 4 years. Whether I'm walking, driving, on the computer, studying, watching TV...I'm always listening to something. Even when I sleep I listen to the radio. The only time I don't listen is during classes. Even then I sometimes have a song running through my head http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif

Wow! You leave the radio on while you're sleeping? You're into music more than I am! hehe I don't know if I can do that.. I listen to the screaming sounds of a Tropical Storm and Heavy Rain with my sound machine. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I used to do stuff like that with my sound sampler...actually I still do sometimes but if it gets on my nerves, I'll throw on the radio http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Music means everything to me. It has been a part of my life since I was a child. I love pretty much all kinds of music except rap, country, and this new music stuff.

I was always in music programs in school. Everything from playing bass guitar and saxophone in band, choir for one year, and Music Memory in elementary school.

Music brings back certain good memories for me in my life. I enjoy listening and reading up on artist or watching them perform in concert or on TV.

Music is a lot of things to me. Probably most (80s especially) music brings back memories of certain people, places, situations, the feel of a certain time in life.

A lot of music is emotionally connected to how I'm feeling at the time. I have some music that I listen to specifically when I'm feeling down because at first it lets me revel in my sadness, then it gradually picks me up and makes me feel better.

I've always got a song running through my head. :) It's frustrating when it's something I don't like 'tho.

I know one thing for sure...I don't think I could survive in a world without music.
I listen to music depending on my mood, like Sal mentioned. Sometimes that mood is changed by the music I choose to listen to. I listen to different types of music from 70's and 80's Rock, Heavy Metal, Dance Music, Country, and for those days when I want music with a beat, but without lyrics, I'll put on some New Age.
I even enjoy listening to some of todays music when it's a group I feel is good. There's not very many though.

Music brings old memories back, good or bad. Music can be relaxing or healing, and it can kick up your energy level a few notches.
Depending on what type of music you want to listen to, it can set or change the mood you're in. Music is very important in my life.

Music is my life-blood. :)

When I'm happy I listen to my goth stuff if I'm sad I go for some Billy joel. :) And Judas Priest to just relax. :)

To quote John Miles:
"Music is my first love...and it will be my last..."

No matter what happened to me, I´ve always found some music which has either supported or enhanced my moods.
I´ve always wanted to make my profession in the fields of music but somehow missed the points of jumping on that wagon, so I guess I will regret it until I draw my terminal breath. ;)

In short: the day I´m falling deaf, it´s the last day on this planet too.

Same here!

I know where you're all coming from. Music reminds me of people and places, generally simpler times. But it doesn't only just make me remember, it takes me back there.

Sometimes it's just nice to just close your eyes and relive those feelings that those songs once stirred.

By the way, have you ever noticed that music only ever reminds you of the good times? I guess that's probably because it's during good times we tend to play music. Or when we play music we end up having a good time.

Music makes the world go round. It has been found that all the signals coming from outerspace have been in a pattern that is very musical. I have one of the largest tastes in music. My favorites are 80's pop, country and rap. I also really like today's music (very unusual for this board). I like stuff from the 40's to today possibly before that if I had more access to it. I eat drink, sleep, work, live and die music!!!

firsthand, I always listened to metal. Heavy metal, trash, speed, death, ya name it. Music is about authenticity. I don't like analysis, when I pick a CD, I hear it once or twice, and, it's a gut fellin', I like it or Idon't. Some says it soothe the savage beast. Yeah right,..... I guess it help me get in touch with my inner ape. I hop around frantically, sometimes in concert I rip my Tee open, and scream, and droll. Well the whole set ! It's sumthin' that have to be raw and honest. just like people ! It's sorta stoopid, but when i listen to an overly aggressive band ( well the only thing I listen to ) I have a slight powertrip !

Well that my own, wicked, honest point of view on music

I can't imagine living without music. It brings out memories, emotions, moods... I have a very large range of musical tastes with 80s being my favorite of course. I can always find something I want to listen to. Usually too much! Our local station Alice 102.7 just added one hit wonder Fridays to the format. Lots of fun! :)

Think of the difference a soundtrack makes to a movie... All the music I've ever listened to is the soundtrack of my life - the highs, the lows, the quiet times, the outrageous times, etc. It may reinforce my moods, it may brighten my mood, it may help me express my feelings, and help me let go of feelings.....

"Life without music would be a mistake." Friedrich Nietzsche

It's as simple as that..... :)
