View Full Version : What is Freestyle?
Sal Collaziano 4-28-00, 10:02 PM Okay. Now.. When I say Freestyle I mean TKA, Johnny O, Cynthia, Judy Torres, Lizette Melendez, Coro, George Lamond, Safire, Giggles, Shannon...
Do any of these names ring a bell? I'm betting they do with Roemello!
There's even some new Freestyle that's pretty good. Lil Suzy still makes an occasional song, Larissa (I Do Both Jay & Jane) is doing well.. There are others but I can't think of their names right now. Freestyle has been making a comeback for the past few years. Ever since WKTU in NY, it's been Hot! But we still miss our days of Hot 103 and Hot 97 of old...

Sal Collaziano 4-29-00, 02:40 AM Everyone you mentioned was awesome.. That's really where I am an authority on 80s music. Freestyle was my favorite... It's strange how I went from Kind Diamond, Death, Metallica, Anthrax, SOD, and MOD to Freestyle Dance! hehe But I really liked it.

Sal Collaziano 5-03-00, 02:22 AM Yes, that's an awesome song! Point of No Return.. Well, it really cooling liking so many kinds of musics. My main two are Rock and Freestyle. Interesting difference, but.. Cool by me. The important thing is, they both sound awesome LOUD! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Roemello 5-03-00, 02:54 AM You want to talk about diversity....I listen to 80's new wave, pop, rock, hip hop, freestyle and dance. Then we have todays music: hip hop, dance, reggae, latin, alternative, rock...etc. I'm probably missing something, but I think you get the picture. Basically everything except country and anything satanic or religious. I'm the opitimy of diversity http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sal Collaziano 5-04-00, 02:42 AM Hey Roemello, we have the same tastes except for one thing. I will listen to the Satanic stuff if I hear it. Sometimes it good to hear that rage in that type of music. Otherwise, people used to think Ozzy and King Diamond were Satanic - and I listen to them occasionally. King Diamond, in fact, is one of my all time favorites. The stories he tells are just unbelievable and amazing. Most of his albums are story albums.
First I have in King Diamond, then I throw in some TKA. hah! I kill me! (Am I Alf now?)

Roemello 5-04-00, 03:30 AM Actually...I don't mind Ozzy. The satanic I'm thinking of is music by...ugh!...I despise to even say the name...Ok, his last name was taken from a serial killer and the first name taken from a beautiful actress from way back when.

Sal Collaziano 5-04-00, 10:33 AM Oh, I don't listen to him either. I saw one of his videos with him shaving his legs and all this and thought it was pathetic. Otherwise, I hear he is a pretty decent guy. I don't know if he's satanic - I never heard so. But I'm sure it's all an act.. I just don't wanna be seen (or want to) listening to his music...

I have never heard any of the artists you mentioned for Freestyle (actually never even heard the phrase till I got here) wondering if I'm missing something?????
As for Ozzy I love him!!!!
And MM he's a freak, that's all I will say LOL http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Mirdonamy 5-12-00, 05:44 PM Yay Freestyle. I am dying for a freestyle sticker for my car window! I have the perfect idea for one...I just need someone with a silk screening machine and some blank plastic stickers. You get a black oval longer in width than height. Get a blue oval inside of it. Put a silhouette of a breakdancer inside of that with their feet up in the air or someone with roller skates on and write the words Freestyle somewhere on or across the sticker in a different shade of blue. Okay, who can do this for me!??? http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyhow, you all have to listen to http://www.power96.com live on Friday nights. They broadcast from 4 different clubs in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. They play lots of Freestyle and Old School mixes! It comes in pretty clear too. I love web radio...you can hear some great stations that you used to only hear if you visited certain regions of the country. Anyhow, they are amazing. They are my favorite radio station. I go to MadJacks in Miami Lakes to go dancing at the Power 96 Live Broadcast once in a while on Fridays. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sal, how did you manage to go from Death Metal to Freestyle? Talk about a complete and utter different style of music......did someone introduce you to it?

Roemello 3-26-01, 04:58 AM I did the same thing, just in the opposite direction http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif Although, I don't really prefer any one genre over the other....my music collection consists of just about every genre there is (except that blasted country http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif)
Guess it's a "keep an open mind" kinda thing. You just have to give different music styles a fair chance http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

"Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive."
yo, i also listen to Brujeria and Freestyle at the same time... other favourites include Ice T, Natacha Atlas, and Leonard Cohen (especially "I'm your man")
...anyway, do y'all consider Underdog project (Summer jam) to be freestyle?

Sal Collaziano 4-03-01, 10:17 AM The Underdog Project. What's that about? I've never even heard of it..
As for me - Most of my friends starting listening to Latin Freestyle and that's what got me into it. I like anything with a really cool beat - and Latin Freestyle has just that. Very heavy metal is a favorite of mine because I love emotion. In metal, there is a lot of emotion. Not always good, mostly negative, but I like it. Latin Freestyle always has positive emotion - and I like that too. It's really easy for me to like both extremes. It sets my mood in entirely different ways...

as much as i know, The Underdog Project is a German well project, sometimes their music reminds of R&B rather than freestyle, but other traxx are kind of freestyle-esque... actually. i think.

Sal Collaziano 4-09-01, 09:43 AM Thanks, Wathiik! I'll go check it out when I get home. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I don't like R&B, but Freestyle mixed with R&B can't be too bad...
