View Full Version : Alright!
Sal Collaziano 4-29-00, 03:29 PM Okay. So where's our AOR crew? Adult Oriented Rock! I know we have fans out there. Actually, you may not even realize that your music falls into the AOR catagory!
Are there any AOR fans out there who KNOW they're AOR fans? Respond here! I haven't seen Nonomous (our AOR moderator in the old forum) around in awhile. So if you're interested in a Moderator position, let me know...

Love AOR/melodic rock music. My favourite band is Magnum from the U.K.
------------------
Sal Collaziano 4-29-00, 07:46 PM Cool. Our first AOR member to post in this section since the new system. I hope many more follow! So are there any links where we can hear some examples of "Magnum"? That would be cool. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

I will put some MP3 files up on my Idrive so you can get a taste of the band. Hopefully tomorrow.

Ok, I finally got a Magnum MP3 available for download at the following site:

The song is called Maybe Tonight, from the Wings Of Heaven CD. Check it out, this band should have been huge here in the U.S. They are my favourite by far.

Rush is my other favourite group, them and Magnum are tied for first. After that the list gets blurry.
------------------
Sal Collaziano 5-30-00, 02:48 AM Wow. That was a cool Rush image, Not Man! What type of music are they anyway? I never bought a Rush album.. heh

On their first album "Rush" they had a harder sound almost sounding like Led Zep. Then from "Fly by Night" to "Moving Pictures" they were more of a progressive rock band. "Signals" was probably the last album that I really got into I like their later recordings but not like their earlier material. IMHO

Sal Collaziano 5-31-00, 01:37 AM Alright well Rush will have to go into the long list in my mind of music to buy.. In the near future. The trouble is, I don't see the CDs very often.. I suppose I will have to keep my eyes opened!

Rush IS great!! What about "Exit Stage Left"? I have never heard of Magnum. I have trouble with labels, there are so many. What qualifies as AOR? Personally, I like Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, CCR, CSN&Y, and Jefferson Airplane/Starship. Later bands like Toto, Asia, Air Supply, Elton John, and Chicago rank very highly as well. Is this the type of music you are talking about?
------------------
Well, AOR to me is stuff like Asia, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Toto, Dokken, Firehouse, etc...a better word for it is Melodic Rock. Stuff like Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac is classic rock in my book.
As for Magnum, they are (were) a British band, kind of a cross between Jethro Tull and Styx, especially the early stuff.
------------------
Thanks Mad Dog. I'll check out Magnum.

For Sal or anyone else not familiar with RUSH, I would recommend the following as good introductory material:
Moving Pictures, includes Tom Sawyer and Lime Light (which you must have heard on the radio in the mid 80's.
Permanent waves, includes The Spirit of Radio which has seen a lot of air play. Also has my favorite RUSH song of all time, Natural Science.
Exit; Stage Left, My all time favorite live album released after the Moving Pictures tour.

Marshall 6-29-00, 06:41 AM Those are great choices Phalanx! About a year ago I blew out the speakers in my company van while jammin' to Limelight, it was worth it http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif. One of my favorite Rush songs is Working Man....
